Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (15 Viewers)

Another question. Is there a good college hoops game in existence?
The last college hoops games in existence are College Hoops 2K8 (2K Sports) and NCAA Basketball 10 (EA Sports). Both are excellent games. I tend to prefer College Hoops style for legacy mode and NCAA Basketball's presentation. I'd love to see 2K do a new college basketball game with the progressions they've made on gameplay.

The closest to that we'll get is college basketball mods on the PC version of NBA 2K.

Never played a GTA game before but I'm finally getting burned out on Skyrim. Downloading GTA IV right now...should I be excited?
4? You should feel trepidation for the eventually disappointment you'll incur.

5? Then yea, excitement.
I concur, I didn't finish 4 but GTA5 might be the only game I've ever played right through twice. Driving that jeep around as Trevor, listening to Black Flag and shooting cyclists could amuse me for hours.

I didn't find 4 as bad as others, but it was pretty uninspiring after Vice City and San Andreas. I think it's worth playing once, but only if you don't have access to GTA5.

Never played any of them so I'm pretty sure I'll dig it.

Grazie!

Has anybody played splatoon? I have a bunch of family coming over this weekend and want to get a fun game for the group to play. Is it relatively easy to pick up? Is the non-online multiplayer fun?

Damn. That's crazy.

Any other Wii-options? They loved Mario kart and the multiplayer Super Mario that came out.

I know I'm probably 5 years late but plants vs zombies is incredibly fun and addictive with a lot of replay ability it seems.

Ok, so our conversation about pitching values in the show was correct - the intangible categories are infinitely more important. I've been jacking them as best I can as fast as I can. Pitched back to back 1 hitters in AA with both hits coming at the 9th with 2 outs.

Which annoys me to no end. If its impossible to throw a no hitter, just say that - you can't throw a no-hitter in this game. That's all I need. Or make me give up the hit in the first. But this 2 out bottom of the 9th stuff - not happy.

Played for the first time last week on a flight from SD to SF. It is insanely addictive.
Its a lot of fun, too bad the second game went free to play and isn't nearly the same level of quality. I've beaten the first game twice on various vacations.
EA tends to butcher anything good that they get. I wish I could say I was surprised.

This brought back a memory of The Show 14. I downloaded a classic Yankees roster (1978), and in the playoffs, had Guidry going for a no-hitter. Just like you, gave up a two out, ninth inning hit. I was annoyed, but hey, it happens in real life, so I forgot about it until your post.

How about this for heartache.

I am playing a 1987 franchise. I play every single game. So we get to the last day of the season. If win I finish AL East champs. I lose and Boston wins we play a one game playoff for the AL East crown. Well of course Cal Ripkin Jr hits a walk off winner in the bottom of the 10th in Baltimore to beat me and Boston rallies back vs the Tribe by scoring 5 in the top of the 8th to beat them 5-2.

We play the game in NY. Boston jumps out on me 7-1 after 3 innings. I storm back to tie it and eventually take an 11-10 lead into the top of the 9th. Rag's gives up the lead and Boston leads 12-11. I tie it in the bottom of the 9th only to go on and lose 15-12 in an epic offensive display from both teams. Boggs is a freaking machine, and Burks went 6-6 with 2 HR's. Kittle had 2 jacks, Wille Randolph, Winfield and of all people Rick Cerone went yard as well.

So we end the season 96-67 and get a wild card. 96 freaking wins and my season comes down to facing Mike Scott and the Astros.

I go down 3-0.......season over. I had plenty of opportunities to score, but it was not to be.

FML

Since I do 30 team control I will choose one team to play the post season with for fun. I took the Royals who are playing the Mariners in the ALDS. If I get knocked out I sim the rest and on to the off-season to prepare for year 2.

This game is cruel. But I love it.

Nice. But yeah, the real life implications of stress in some of these games is just way too much for a married man to have.

GTA IV is easily the worst of the bunch. Hell, San Andreas, even with its dated graphics is a much better game.
I played III, Vice City and San Andreas.

I never played another.

GTA V looks pretty awesome. I may have to pick that up over the holidays if it get's really cheap.

LMAO. My wife hears me cussing up a storm when I play the game. She can't believe it. But man....it's just so good.

BTW the only no hitter I ever threw on The Show came on The Show 2009. I tossed a No No with AJ Burnett. He just had ungodly stuff that magical game.

BTW I play with All-Star Pitching/All-Star Directional/timed hitting and no visual aides other than the ball marker. So it is hard.

I have a sick slider set and game settings that give you the cleanest screen and a great simulation.

Vice City is the gold standard of that universe. Granted the effects and story are probably better in the ones that came after but Vice City was as close to a perfect video game as you could get.

San Andreas was good and I loved alot of the characters. But the addition of too much real life stuff - eating, working out that kind of stuff - really hurt the game. It took away too much from the fun of th game for me and added a level of work I don't like that much in mindless entertainment.

IV was an abortion. I hated from almost the second i put it in. I played through the main story just to get it over with but didn't do any side missions, exploring, anything. Just didn't like anything about the world at all.

V was awesome in every way. The addition of having more than one character was great and all three leading characters were fun as all get out. Experiencing the world through three different sets of eyes was a ton of fun and the world is a load of fun to just play around in without any actual missions going on. It's not near the greatness I give to Vice, but it's worlds better than IV and a ton more fun than San Andreas.

I hadn't played the GTA series for a long time. Wife got me an xbox1 for Christmas so I decided to fire it up and give it a try. Had a lot of fun with that game and played a lot of hours on it. Shoot, I still fire it up and go out to kill some people after a bad day at work. I think part of what made it fun for me was the fact you don't have to play the story line to play it. Can't get to 100% completion because my kids keep saving over my games. (Really wish you could rename the saves on this game).

I have been looking for another game to play along similar lines, but have not had any luck. Trying the american sniper game now, but not sure how far I will go with it.

I threw a no-hitter at AAA. In the majors now and my best so far is a two hit shutout (twice). One against the Yankees.

:goodposting: except I switch VC and SA on your list. I loved everything about SA, even the working out and eating stuff because it let me make the main character into a fatass with an afro. Plus, you could easily ignore all that extra character stuff. The size of the map blew everything away too.

The open world aspect of GTA is my favorite aspect of gaming. I'm not a hard core guy like some of the posters here, but to me when I play a game I want to turn my brain off and just enjoy the ride. So with that, being able to get out of a set of rules and just play sometimes is something I enjoy.

I've tried Assassins Creed and it's ok but I find myself not picking it up to play again recently, same with God of War. I enjoyed Departed but havent finished 1 yet to even start 2 or 3. For whatever reason they aren't grabbing me the way GTA has. But I did find a "home" so to speak with Fallout 3. That game is fantastic in every way and is pretty infinitely replayable. I just started another round recently. So I would recommend that one if you are like me at all.

GTA has old school named saves? You should create a gamertag for your kid. On Xbox One you can have 4 or 5 seperate gamertags on one xbox live account. That should take care of the overwrite issue.

Boo. not my Yankees. My 1B Paul Bunyan offensive freak isn't allowing you a shutout.

Yes, the size of it was awesome. The casino stuff was massively entertaining.

Another question. Is there a good college hoops game in existence?
NBA College Hoops 2K8 is the gold standard for Legacy mode, presentation and game play. I poured tons of time into that title. The graphics are dated. But the presentation, and depth is about as good as any sports title ever. Recruiting is very deep and can be daunting at first. I wish there was a guide for that aspect. It is massive.

Loads of fun to start in a small school and work your way to a big time program and getting to March Madness.

As I stated above, NCAA Basketball 10 was much better in presentation. EA Sports getting both ESPN and CBS Sports presentation for games was awesome. Depdending on the day or stature of the game, you'd have a different announce team. So it was much more realistic at that point.

Between the two, gameplay is subjective. Definitely agree for Legacy mode.

I own both games. I doubt I'll ever part with them unless a new college basketball game is released.

College Hoops 2K8 was amazing for its time. The Legacy mode was great despite some flaws (mostly really technical stuff like the recruit generation engine, which generated way more elite guards than big guys) You were able to recruit guys starting from their freshman year of high school and play summer AAU tournaments with them in the off-season so you could play with potential future talent.

I probably played through 12 seasons back in the day. Tried to fire it up a couple of years ago but the graphics and game play (in comparison to the improved controls and realism of the current 2K engine) just made it impossible for me to really get into it again.

Unfortunately, the O'Bannon lawsuit and the lack of widespread commercial interest in a college game (almost all casual players prefer the NBA franchise so they can play with the stars they know. The college 2K series never sold well) means we'll probably never get a college hoops game again.

Yeah I play 2K15 on PS4 and I can't play 2K8 anymore. It does feel so clunky in comparison.

But i want to check out EA NCAA 10 College Basketball. I just read up on it and it get's glowing reviews. 30 bucks used though was the cheapest I found so far.....wow.

Slax is it worth it? Will I get plenty of replay-ability out of it? can I DL named rosters and are the servers still up?

I finally ordered a Retron 5 this morning. Next step is to trade in my Dreamcast and Shenmue for some NES controllers and games.

Looking forward to playing Super Mario Bros., RC Pro Am, and other classics with my kids. I plan to get some NES first...then Sega Gensis...then Super Nintendo.

I left a Youtube clip above that compared both games visually and in presentation.

Operation Sports has good info for updated rosters. But unfortunately, I believe that the multiplayer servers are down. Other online features, I'm not so sure. (For example, on the main menu, you have a player playing on blacktop on your favorite team's campus. The weather is current to that team's weather report. So if it's winter and snowing on campus, there's snow on the ground around the court. It was pretty cool. But I haven't checked in the last few months to see if it's still working.

Has anyone made a decent cop game? Like Grand Theft Auto from the police perspective? Throw in some Witcher 3 type "senses" for investigating crap.

Watching HBO's True Detective this past week made me think someone should.

The Max Payne games were great in many aspects. Not sure it has the true investigative elements you are looking for, but frankly, they are worth it if nothing else for the first use of Bullet-Time as well as for Lords and Ladies. I was in bed the other night and my wife had her kindle out watching a Downton Abbey, and after hearing the dialogue, I started chuckling, thinking it was just a newer Lords and Ladies.
