Witcher 3 is $25 bucks on PSN. Just bought the disc for that on Wed night from Best Buy for the same price but it looks like I'll be taking that back.
I heard it was supposed to come out months from now but they're closing down the company so they're just going to put it out now, is that correct? If so, wouldn't have those expectations too high.
Ok, it came from a very unreliable source, so could be off.
Did some searching and apparently the game is in pretty bad shape, but maybe not as bad as I was hearing. And there is a patch (yea before it's even out) already... so it looks like they're addressing it.

Probably best to check the advice from the thread dedicated to the game.
In summary, I'd say if you are looking for a casual shooter with an authentic Star Wars feel, it's pretty good. If you are looking for a serious shooter, look elsewhere.

2015 was a great year for video games. Since December is awards season, I wanted to get the thread's thoughts on this year in gaming.

Star Wars Battlefront - It's good, but not godlike. It delivers Star Wars content in a battlefield setting. Sweet! Maps-only online gameplay was a frustrating decision by Dice, but it's what we have. Those mods tho...
The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth - A massive expansion to Rebirth, which was a remake to fix the original BoI. I feel like I'd be ranking Rebirth instead of the expansion though, I can't really get a handle on just how high the expansion should be ranked.
Rise of the Tomb Raider - This may be a case where I simply haven't put enough hours into the game yet. The design and graphics are super slick, and the game is nice thus far. My time is being monopolized by other games at the moment, so like I said, it might sneak in if I wait til January or February to do a 2015 in review
Splatoon - OK, I admit it, I'm a Nintendo fanboy, but I feel justified in placing this well ahead of Battlefront.The game has a surprising amount of play given it is Nintendo's version of a FPS, with a high-quality online experience. It's the Mario Kart of the FPS world.
Kerbal Space Program - If it feels like you've been playing this game for two years, well you might have; this game was released to Early Access in 2013.
Not going to really treat it like a 2015 game.
Life is Strange - A really neat concept game, probably so high up my charts just for the innovative, involved, and weird gameplay and storytelling.

10. Pillars of Eternity
March was a sweet month for gaming, and with it came the release of (imo) one of the best pure Western RPG since the heyday of Baldur's Gate, Planescape: Torment, and kin. Might be nostalgia bias keeping an HM out over this.
9. Cities: Skylines
March was a sweet month for gaming! This sim delivered on oh-so-many levels, the biggest being attention to detail. I didn't think SimCity 4 would be topped, but Cities: Skylines has delivered the best planning simulation game to date.
8. Fallout 4
Franchise fans need to chill out. Bethesda may not have brought exactly what was expected in the next installment of the Fallout series, but the hate is unreal just because it feels more like an FPS than an RPG. Well, I'm sorry, they made a heavier combat game than RP game, and as that game, it's a really good one. Add in the scavenger-builder mechanics and this game is clearly worthy of top 10 billing.
7. Ori & the Blind Forest
Another March release, dang. Beautiful platformer, aesthetically pleasing to the eyes, ears, and touch given how well the controls were made. Everyone should give this game a try. Yes, I really think it's better than FO4, even if I'll put many more hours into the latter.
6. Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain
I went on a mini-rant about not comparing Fallout 4 to its predecessors, but now I'm going to preach "do as I say, not as I do" here when I praise MGSV as a great homage to the series, and then blowing the stealth genre fully open-world. A true piece of interactive art.
5. Rocket League
Hot Wheels and soccer, the game isn't any more complicated than that, but delivers a fun, competitive experience in a tightly-wrapped package. This is the closest I'll probably ever come to ranking a sports game in a top 10. (An admitted flaw to my view on video games: I CANNOT stand sports games, dislike most every single one). Cooperative play on the ladder is really great.
4. Bloodborne
The best video game of March, which is a demonstrably deep category. Compared to the Souls line, the learning curve was quite a bit harder as you didn't have a big shield to hide behind. I felt that while not every boss was a super-hard encounter, they at least a) offered a mixed bag of styles and strategies and b) actually felt like bosses, but the difficulty of getting to those bosses was great. I think it was a great decision by From giving the more casual fans a chance with good checkpointing and being able to carry 20 blood vials. Then, after your single-player experience, the Chalice Dungeon system took the game to a whole new level with PVP.

#1 Fan of Nintendo reporting in, really wanting to rank this as my personal GOTY. Nintendo gave us the tools to build and explore some of the best platformers in the gaming business. There are plenty of troll levels that might knock you out of a 100-man run, which brings about the biggest criticism of the game: there's no downvote system. However, I find the rare precious gem levels so much more rewarding than playing a handful of bad levels is punishing. The replayability of this game is limitless, only bound by how much Mario you'd like to fit into an evening.

If I'm being objective, and I'm at least trying to be, I can't actually put SMM over The Witcher 3. My god, this game is so impressive. Fallout 4 is my GOTY in a year of many great games. But I think everyone and their mother saw that coming from me.
I've put 80 hours into the game and still haven't gone back into the official thread because I don't want any spoilers quite yet. I should at least toss an update in there sometime this week.

Mordor and FarCry are good... the former especially if you like the source material. Both should be $20-30

The wingsuit looks like a lot of fun.
This is on my xmas list - maybe I'll put down FO4 long enough to give this a run.
Very good game. Bioware played around with a lot of the gameplay concepts they eventually used in Mass Effect so it's sort of a cross between KOTOR and ME.

I don't know if I'm getting burnt out on video games or I just don't like the same games everyone else likes. I bought critically acclaimed witcher 3 and got bored to tears with it. Never finished it. Bought MGS5 and while it's an amazing game it's so ####### repetitive. Every mission is the same thing. I've played for hours and I'm not even past mission 8. I'm not sure if I'll ever pass this game either. It's rare for me to buy games and not finish them and now it's happened to me twice with the last two games I bought.
I really wanna but fallout 4 but I'm scared it's gonna be another waste of money.

I own the Xbox version and fire it up on the 360 every now and then. Very unrated game lost in the shuffle because it was released during the original Xbox last gasp. 360 came out the same year.

It's not. You can do whatever you want in it. Play hardcore or just take it easy and wander.
I love MGS but you don't think if he doesn't like it by now he won't ever? He complained about it being repetitive... it is. Not nearly as bad as Destiny or something... but you go back to the same places a lot... and do the same thing in different places a lot. Granted there's a ton to the game with FOB missions and online MP and the many different weapons and strategies you can employ. But if he's not having fun tagging and bagging guys on the early levels, it's probably just not for him IMO.

Worlds away from Witcher 3. Witcher 3, while good, had some truly significant flaws that left me with a bad taste. The inventory system was likely the worst I've ever encountered in a major game. The decision system to pick the final ending was beyond dumb. The item creation system was horrid. Fallout 4 suffers from none of those - inventory system is good (not great) and the item creation/mod stuff is just spectacular. I am nowhere near the end so can't compare those two parts.
BTW, I find the graphics in both to be excellent.

Anyone who is into strategic RPG's, especially old school turn-based ones, you have to pick up Divinity: Original Sin on console (assuming you aren't a PC gamer who already played it). Incredible game.
I don't play a lot of these types of games so there are way more nuances that I'll be able to give it credit for.Sand said:

Lots of people want you to do stuff for them, you can chose to or not... fight monsters... pick up more stuff. Buy stuff from someone. Equip something.
The controls, settings and details may be different but it's the same sort of game IMO

You spend very little time navigating menus
Nothing to constantly equip/upgrade
NO PICKING FLOWERS!
ETA: Forgot about the main difference, because it's the one thing I really enjoy about RPGs:

Skill trees

My top games for 2015 (games I actually purchased and played which was 9 titles)
1. Fallout 4 - Simply epic. Everything I wanted for an open world RPG. I love Skyrim. I love FO4 even more.
2. MLB The Show 15 - I have played well over 275 games thus far between my 1987 franchise and modern day Yankees Franchise I carried over from MLB 14. Y2Y saves are amazing.
3. Madden 16 - Truly the best Madden ever made. They just dropped a 3rd and final patch which has made the game even better on the field (it was already awesome).
4. Dying Light - Seriously, the best zombie game yet on a console (not named The Walking Dead from Telltale games)
5. NHL 16 - My first NHL since NHL 13. I love it. Addicting, amazing presentation, and a lot of fun.
6. NBA 2K16 - simply the best this series has offered (along with 2K11) in terms of gameplay, depth and presentation.
7. Wolfenstein The Old School - I loved New Order and this was an awesome expansion.
8. Destiny The Taken King - My first foray into the Destiny Universe. I got a good 40 hours of enjoyment. The best FPS I have played ever. But it becomes a grind.
9. Rocket League - A total hoot. My son and I play it and have a blast.
10. Everyone Has Gone To Rapture - a really cool experience. I highly recommend it.
I am no doubt picking up some titles next year over the summer of 2016. By then I will have played my current rotation to death.

Started playing Until Dawn the other night.
To say the dialog is stilted would be charitable.
Having said that, the graphics are really good and I like the direction it's going in that the decisions made will have a real impact on the results.

Yeah, Witcher hardly had an ideal inventory set up but I spent 50+% of my meager Fallout playing time playing around with inventory management in some shape or form. Its less than ideal. I think the whole idea of carry limits in these games needs to be put out to pasture.

By the way, Overwatch is so legit. I wish more beta keys had been handed out, but if you like FPS games, you should make every effort to get into a beta weekend. I am trying to remember to stream when I play, if one of you wants to watch the stream and has questions, I'll be more than happy to drop into a training room and show you any character or their abilities.

I feel like I've played enough Just Cause 3 to give it a proper review.
If you haven't played the Just Cause series, it's basically a third person, open world shooter where the point is to cause as much destruction as possible, and you can do so in very creative ways. Just Cause 3 is a continuation on this. When I say open world I really mean it. The entire map is open from the get go. There are no lame towers that you have to climb in order to unlock ####, or gated off areas or anything. Oh, and the map is approximately 4 times as large as GTA V's map, so you've got a LOT of mayhem to cause. There are a number of vehicles to drive and fly around in like fancy sports cars, tanks, helicopters, and F-16s.
In addition to weapons, your dude has a grappling hook which he can use to pull himself up onto ledges or to cause destruction. For example, if you need to destroy a large water tower, and your AK47 isn't cutting it, you can put a C4 explosive onto a truck, grapple the truck to the tower, retract and watch it all blow up. Last night I grappled a bunch of people to the blades of a helicopter and watched the resulting merry-go-round as I took off in it. You also have a wingsuit to glide around in. So yeah, you're guy is basically Superman without the cape.
And about things blowing up, one of the best things about this game is the scale, feel and look of things exploding. Explosions are EPIC. The game really excels in this area. Your dude has unlimited C4 as well so you never have to worry about holding back because you're low on charges. If it looks like it can blow up, there is no reason not to do so!
A few areas where the game does not excel. The story is very akin to the story in a porno, it's just there in the background and you dont care at all about it. If you're looking for a deep story, stay away. The driving is not quite as good as in JC2, either. It might just be that I'm not used to it yet, but vehicles often feel like they're floating. I'm also not a fan of how they implemented the upgrade system. Upgrades are unlocked slowly by liberating (destroying) settlements and bases. This means by the time you unlock the last of the fun goodies your character can utilize, the game will be almost over.
Also, if you have a PC with an AMD video card, I'd wait until they release the first patch because there are loads of problems with those video cards.
Anyway, the game is a great, incredibly fun time waster. Just dont expect a deep narrative experience.

Thank you. I have been looking for a time waster since GTA and this looks like it could be what I am looking for. I am not very good at first person shooters anymore, and have been looking for something like GTA that has a story line, but If I just want to go around and blow stuff up just because I can. Looks like I will have to put this on my short list.

Finished up Metal Gear yesterday. (at least the actual story missions).
I definitely enjoyed it, but the repetition got to me at the end. And when I say repetition, I don't mean that lots of the missions had the same types of objectives. I mean that I can't believe they actually just had you replay missions with different rules (requiring perfect stealth, making you start with no guns, higher difficulty, etc). That's just lazy. At least half the missions after the big fight at the end of chapter 1 were repeats. That's just lame.
From a game play perspective, I thought it was fun. Certain things made aspects of the game way too easy though. Once you get D-Dog, you really don't need to spend any time pre-scouting a base anymore. Same with Quiet. Also, the Rocket hand was absurdly overpowered. Same thing with Reflex mode.
They basically made it so you can escape anything but the world's absolute worst screw up. There's no need to be stealthy in most missions because you can kill 2-3 guys with headshots in reflex mode. The guards were really really stupid at times and it was way too easy to take down 1 or 2, fulton them out and just keep moving. If I had to do it over again, I'd put a house rule on myself banning the use of the rocket hand and the dog.
The story was actually pretty Not-ridiculous for a Metal Gear game until the ending.
The decision to do fewer/shorter cut scenes and use the tapes to give a lot of the background info was a good decision. MGS4 had what seemed like dozens of hours of cutscenes. I believe the end-game cut scene for that game was well over an hour long.
I definitely enjoyed it, but the repetition got to me at the end. And when I say repetition, I don't mean that lots of the missions had the same types of objectives. I mean that I can't believe they actually just had you replay missions with different rules (requiring perfect stealth, making you start with no guns, higher difficulty, etc). That's just lazy. At least half the missions after the big fight at the end of chapter 1 were repeats. That's just lame.
From a game play perspective, I thought it was fun. Certain things made aspects of the game way too easy though. Once you get D-Dog, you really don't need to spend any time pre-scouting a base anymore. Same with Quiet. Also, the Rocket hand was absurdly overpowered. Same thing with Reflex mode.
They basically made it so you can escape anything but the world's absolute worst screw up. There's no need to be stealthy in most missions because you can kill 2-3 guys with headshots in reflex mode. The guards were really really stupid at times and it was way too easy to take down 1 or 2, fulton them out and just keep moving. If I had to do it over again, I'd put a house rule on myself banning the use of the rocket hand and the dog.

Finding out that you've been playing with someone other than Big Boss all along was pretty stupid. It was a total cop-out to a lot of the stuff that happened. It was basically like making the entire game a dream sequence. I also didn't like how they spent the first 50% of the game building up Skull Face and then you don't even actually fight him. Same thing with the floating psychic boy
