Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (1 Viewer)

For me all I think I played from this year was Far Cry Primal, the majority of my gaming this year was FO4 and Skyrim SE. Sucked not having a Rocksteady Batman or AC game. I have Dishonored 2 in my queue but that won't likely be until next year when I have finished Skyrim.

Does anyone ever truly finish Skyrim?

It's interesting reading that as a collective we didn't play a lot of the big games. I was listening to podcast where they said console sales and game sales are both down from what the companies were expecting/projecting. So it isn't just us.

For me, there is 3 reasons (excluding outside reasons like work, family, etc) that I didn't play as many games this year. First is lack of innovation. The big developers just put out the same games with slight variations. There is nothing new really. There have been interesting aspects of certain games that just haven't come into fruition.

Second, is cost to play, false claims and lack of support/bugs/broken games. I lump these all together because the under lying issue is I paid for something and don't feel like I money's worth or straight up ripped off. And my third reason is, other players. This one is probably specific to me since I mostly play online games. I'd say the problem is 80% other players and 20% devs for not having better systems and instructions for players.

I started a NG+ run in Dishonored 2 yesterday, and this setup really rocks.  You can mix and match Corvo and Emily powers, and your runes carry over so you can re-spec right at the start of the second mission.  Bonecharm crafting comes into its own here too.  I'm about halfway intermission four, and my character moves about as fast as the guy from DOOM especially if my weapons are debated and I'm in stealth mode.  Really fun to play around and explore this way.

I just started Baulders Gate 2 EE.  Holy crap is this thing deep.  So much to do, it looks wonderful, that is if I can figure out the game mechanics.

I have been playing with no AI and too often my group just seems to do nothing in battle.  I think I am going to set up some basic AI for my guys so that I can sit back and not try and control everything at once which is like drinking from a fire hose with my low knowledge level.

I think I am going to play for a few hours to get the hang of things and then just throw the character away and start over again.

I can see lots of hours being sunk into this if I can get the hang of it.

What are the Steam cards that show up in my account?  Are these things like some form of Account Trophy separate from the in game trophies?

I think they are just some kind of reward that has a monetary value.  I think you can sell them to other steam users... someone else who knows more can correct me.

I played a lot less this year than 2015.  I am working on advancing my career and studying for some exams, so I've had to take time away from something to do that.  Also, TW3 and FO4 consumed my gaming life from 2015 to early 2016 and I don't feel as excited about any games from 2016 as I did about those two.

So, I will be swapping out my PS3 for a PS4 tomorrow. I'm going to get rid of the PS3, no room/need for two systems. Now, I have read that prior to selling or trading the PS3, I should deactivate the account, then do a system restore to wipe the drive. My question is on the deactivating piece. On the PS4, will the same login I used on the PS3 work, or do you have to create a new account for the PS4? Just trying to confirm that deactivating my account thru the PS3 isn't a bad idea.

I don't think you are really deactivating the account.  Just removing it from the PS3.  You'll use the same account on the PS4.

It's pretty easy to manage once you get the hang of it. It's also some of the best combat in any game, ever. This is a "top 3 of all time" game for me. I must have finished it ten times, with all kinds of different party mixes.

Your spellcasters need to be babysat a little. Hit pause, tell them what spell to throw where, and unpause. The fighters/etc, just tell them who to attack, and they will attack until they kill the enemy, then move on to someone else (unless you tell them different.) But you have to pause a lot. Plus, when you get into fighting mages, liches, and dragons, there needs to be lots of dispelling / breach / etc going on. Your characters will constantly be stunned, brainwashed, not able to hurt the enemy, etc. The back and forth between your mages and the enemy spellcasters in this game is pretty unique (and can border on frustrating if you only think brute force).

The party management / NPC's are what really makes this game. Looking forward to hearing what party you're running with.

I have so much to learn. For example, I could not for the life of me understand why my AC kept dropping when wearing armor.  In all RPG games I have played, AC goes up when you equip gear but in reading last night, I see that the D&D rules have AC dropping as you get armor.  The lower the better.

I wish there was a small tutorial in the game.  Even the Souls games which do no handholding at least give you the absolute basics.  I am watching some youtube vids to see if I can pick up the basic mechanics.

As a side question, does the game alter based on how I answer questions during conversations?

I'd say for the most part, I played less video games in 2016. I'd chalk it up to the following....

-Battlefield (which is easily my most played franchise over the past decade)  coming out with a game that A) I had zero interest in  the setting and B) HATED the beta due to the tanks being point and click God-mode

-Every year, sports games lean more and more towards "Be A pro" mode and "ultimate team" (which I have no interest in) and further away from deep single player franchise modes

Played a ton of X-com 2 and loved metal gear solid 5 (played it this year for the most part even though it came out last year). Like overwatch and Titanfall 2 a lot but don't play a ton because I kinda suck at console shooters. Played a lot of The Division until it became a late-game loot grind.

The lack of sports games I like is really just a killer. I really miss the NCAA football and basketball franchises, as I loved the recruiting and constant team building aspects and the short seasons. Tried to get that with Madden this year but just didn't enjoy it.

I love Battlefield
I know a lot of people do, but my experience with the beta was so negative that I just have no interest. And every time I get interested in MAYBE picking it up, every youtube video is something going on a 50 kill streak in a tank without ever being close to in danger of dying.

And this is coming from someone who played almost 900 hour combined of BF3 and Bf4.

The starting dungeon is sort of a tutorial. Sort of. Pause is your friend in combat - use it liberally.

To answer the bolded, to a degree, yes. But the main story will move forward no matter what.

The bigger thing is how do your NPC's react to your choices (and to each other). Some are good, some are neutral, and some are evil (and can't be in the same party together without fighting). The NPC's in this game are really well done.

So I got a PS4 for Xmas (FFXV edition :excited: ). What is the advantage if I take it back and get a PS4 pro? I don't care about 4K as I won't be buying a 4K TV for a long time. Can this edition do VR?

Forgot about metal gear 5.  I liked it a lot

Oh ####. VR is like $600 on top of the PS4??? Nevermind about that I guess. Thought it was like $100-200.

So pro gives a little better performance and that's about it?

Yes. If you don't care about the 4k and VR.

For now games have to be made to run on either. But I could see in a couple years. Pro specific games

Don't trade it in for a Pro. There's no reason to. Right now there games aren't even optimized for the Pro so a lot of (most) games aren't any better on it. There isn't much of an improvement over the standard PS4.

You have 1 TB of space already, won't be using it for VR or 4K so really all your trading it in for is maybe a slight increase on load times. And from what I've read that isn't even a guarantee for every game.

There was a game, back in the day, I THINK it was on a playstation that had monster trucks playing sports (like soccer) and a "king of the mountain" mode etc.  We now have an Xbox One....is there something comparable on that platform?  I saw the "Rocket League" game that is hockey, soccer, bball etc.  That's pretty close, but doesn't have KOTM (that I can tell).

Get Rocket League. It might not have exactly what you are looking for but it fantastic.

No king of the hill mode.

It's really the only thing missing...was gonna pull the trigger before, but will for sure now.  Thanks

Got GOW 4.  Outside of the fact that it took 2 hours to load, having fun with the solo campaign.  I told myself after not even finishing GOW 1 that I wouldn't come back to the franchise as I didn't really enjoy it and there are tons of other games out there that I wanted to play but am glad I gave this one a chance.

My son got an xbox one for Christmas.  He has tried to play 4 or 5 games but xbox is making him download the game even though he inserted the disks.   The first game took over 2 hours to download.   Is this normal?  Why does he need to download the game?

Ok, I think I am finally done buying stuff off the Steam winter sale.  Picked up MGS 5: Phantom Pain and Ground Zeroes both, Dragon's Dogma, Portal 2, Abzu, Furi, Hyper Light Drifter, and Machinarium.  Still need to get into Witcher 3 and finish up Samorost 3.

It's kind of nervewracking to have such a massive backlog of video games to finish but I really can't help myself.  Here's my library

My guess is that he is not downloading a game but is downloading a large update.  Almost every game comes with enormous updates these days on the console.

I know what you mean.

I bought a star wars complete saga, dishonored 2, both Castlevanias.

Still have multiple games to play before sniffing these.  Ah what problems to have

Need to pick up the tie fighter and xwing games. Didn't realize they were on steam now. Weren't when I checked years ago.

Disconnect from the internet and install the game from the disc and then do the update.  Should be faster.  If you accept the update before the game is installed, I think it downloads the whole thing instead of doing it from the disc.

Played some Titanfall 2 today with my son, we both got it for PC. Really fun multiplayer though a little too fast for me to be really good.  My 16 yr old son killed it.

For the Steam winter sale, I got Elite Dangerous, Magicka 2, Ultimate General Gettysburg and another I cannot remember.

It takes about 2-6 hours to DL the game to the system.

Just got an XBox One a little over a week ago. I'm not a huge gamer, yet, but the games I've played in the last several years (other than sports) that I loved the most were Oblivion and Skyrim, and the Fallout series (I got Fallout 4, of course.) I also liked Dishonored, but don't mind waiting a bit on the sequel.

I see Bioshock: The Collection on sale at Target. Never played them but heard good things. Given the games I've mentioned, does this seem like a good option for me?

eta: I think I'm also going to get Witcher 3.

Yes. Sounds like you like both open world and linear games, so yes.

Besides, Bioshock rules.

Witcher 3 took me a while to get into, but it's been one of my favorite games.  I love single player story games and it has a lot of good stuff, and the expansion packs are really well reviewed as well, adding on a ton more content to an already awesome game.

Well, I had a gift card to Target and another regular gift card and there was a Game Stop next to the Target and there were sales and anyway I got them both.

Looking for a single player first person shooter along the lines of "The Last of Us" for my PS4.  Any suggestions?  I only have Uncharted 4 and TLOU (liked both) and I'm looking to upgrade my PS4 library.
