Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (6 Viewers)

Agreed with Todem, not needed. There are some references to the prior game in the story of 2, but nothing they don't fill you in on or catch you up on in the very beginning (the 4 characters you can play as in the 1st game show up in the 2nd game's story which is a fun tie to the original.) Anyway, the story isn't really why you are playing the game anyway, its just a lot of damn fun.

For that reason I would recommend playing the first one though, they are both really fun games although 2 is bigger and better in most ways. One thing that may be lost though is that these were some of the best 4 player co-op games I've ever played, game was really designed around co-op really well.

Note: In Borderlands 2, make sure to get the Shotgun 1340 after the quest "Out of Body Experience." It's hilarious.
I also agree, but if you play the first one as mordecai you will feel the feeling of ultimate hatred I had for handsome jack at one point of the game. Talk about running in guns blazing, you sob.

Read an article yesterday about the new features in NBA2K18, and I have to say I'm stoked.  I can't link it here at work but the ones that enticed me:

  • Story mode with MY GM.  The story mode will not be pre-scripted like the MY Player feature, but didn't things will happen depending on the direction you take your franchise.
  • G League - You can sign your players to 2-way contracts and move them up and down as needed.
  • Draft and stash European players
  • (This one mainly for my kids) you can now add more than one uniform set for created/moved franchises.

I wish I could play PUB but the keyboard controls are beyond me.  The players do things so fast in their pack management.  It looks really fun though.
Key board controls are similar to every other fps. The pack management is really simple. You get use to it really fast. Don't let that stop you from getting the game. I can give you some tips about it if you want.

Pubg Battlegrounds seems awesome and I hope it comes out for PS4 someday, but they definitely need to iron some things out. Like the fact it's still not an official release.

But even more insane is that you can receive a 7 day ban if a popular streamer accuses you of "stream sniping". Basically, if a popular streamer dies and claims that you were watching their live stream to know where they are in game and hunt them down, then you get a 7 day ban. Even if there is no proof.

That's a horrible policy. Banning even admitted stream snipers seems like a terrible idea, especially when streamers could just put their stream on a few minute delay.

Like a one in a four million chance that happens to you. Plus with all the outrage from this, I doubt it will happen again.

this is the problem.  As a lifetime user of controllers I have never been able to get a hang of the movement keys (WASD) since I started gaming on PC.  Believe me I have tried even with games far less important on movement control than a FPS requires and it just is a mess.

I do agree I would probably get a hang of the pack management fairly quickly.

I've been playing it non-stop since picking it up at launch.  It's a really fun game.  I just wish it offered local multiplayer, but I guess that's what Mario Kart is for.
Yea that's my beef with it. My kid is having a blast. He's up to level 10 already. He's played it all day today. But I got it so myself, my son and daughter could all play. I incorrectly assumed it would have split screen multiplayer.  I don't understand the plan to not have it since it's a game targeted for kids 6-14.

The only multiplayer my son can play with it is the online which always worries me. Thankfully Nintendo is so antiquated with their online that he can't chat with anyone. Plus he doesn't recognize user names like "mothrfukr" as being bad. I still didn't want to subject him to that world at 6 years old though.

So your comment made me remember a Christmas at my dads a few years ago. We're hanging out and my cousin is playing Xbox on the tv. My grandmother is there and she says "what is that person's name?"  I look up and see a user named "batamutafuka."  I just dismiss it and say I don't know. Well, that doesn't deter her...

"batta...    moota...     fukah"

batta...  moota... fukah"

over and over and over. My dad walks in and hears his very religious and very catholic mother repeatedly saying what essentially sounds like a broken English version of bad mother ####er over and over again and the rest of us practically crying from laughing.

As far as the controls on PUBG, u can bind every action to any key you want including mouse keys.  So if you have you a gaming mouse with a thumb button on it, you can bind the Open Door/Close Door/Pick Up x Item so youre literally just spamming door open/door close, and picking up items as you run the past them.

Moving around can start to get a little complicated.  You have your standard WASD movements, plus mouse strafing, holding down #### to run, and holding down ALT to look around 360 degrees usually all that the time.

Are u going to play fpv servers or stick with tpv?

Not sure yet.  Until I get better likely TPV because it allows me to camp/practice a little more.  I'm decent at the game, but have horrible aim right now.  I really wish there was a practice mode for shooting, especially long distance. Of course I watch a lot of Grimmmz on Twitch who will make anyone feel bad about their aim.  That guy is a ####### god at shooting.  Sacriel and some of the other guys are better at overall game strategy, but GRimmz shooting skills are just legendary.

I'm not sure they needed both this early TBH but it doesn't bother me either.

It does also suck jumping into games alone after a while.  Finding a full squad of 4 competent people would be nice.  If we keep talking it up we'll get some FBGs to download it I'm sure.

I would add...if you aren't in FPS games, crazy games, dont have a big high end computer.  Like thinking during a game (maybe you enjoy chess), just download Hearthstone (works on mobile and ipad as well)

It's such a great game to pass idle time away.  It's rewarding to win, it's easy to get better at and understand, there's nothing fast paced or crazy about it.  It can get expensive if you wind up wanting to craft some older cards, but I can help with that if you do decide to get into it.

It's also free to play (although "expansions" in the future can cost money if you dont earn enough daily gold to purchase the cards you want)

Even if you don't think you're a video game person.  I never was, I was a chess player, then a friend introduced me to Hearthstone last year and it's been over ever since.

Also...don't give up because the tutorial and training portion take FOREVER . I promise it doesn't suck after that but you need to invest the hour or two to learn the game before jumping in competitively so the training can take a bit.

I don't play the game, but that's pretty ridiculous.

Assinine. I would try to make sure I never played in a room with those people but I wouldn't know who they are anyway.  Never played PUBG. Looks cool. Just haven't done in yet.

I play a ton of Hearthstone and really enjoy it.   I wish I was better at it but I tend to play too fast and make mistakes.

I have never made legend.  I typically end each season some where around rank 3.

I play arena a little to balance.

I am a complete F2p player but I am sitting on over 14k in gold for the next expansion.

IF u can hit rank 3, u can hit legend.  It's just the time commitment. A lot of rock-paper-scissors games, a lot of moving back and forth in 50 50 matchups, so that from rank 5 to Legend you probably need a good 8-9 more hours of game play.  It's pretty nuts.

I played a bunch of hearthstone but the fact that they remove cards from adventures in competitive pisses me off and led me to quit.

everyone tells me this but I hit rank 5 probably with ~ten days left in month and then oscillate between 3 and 5 the rest of the month.  Once I lose the bonus win after winning three in a row, my progress grinds to a halt.

I thought I made a real break through this month as I used a Gimmie priest deck to advance 1 star from rank 2 fairly easily but then went into a tailspin I could not get out of.

I believe this will make 7 months in a row ending around 3-4 in rank.

Well you also lose win streaks in top 5 - there are no more.  You may not even realize it.  I'd share some of my lists with you but honestly, I'm sure you know where they all are at this point anyway.

One key thing in the top 3-5, is adjusting to the meta you're seeing.  Not daily, not hourly, but game by game.  If I hit 3 freeze mages out of 4 games, I switch to Jade Druid.  If I hit 2 straight Jade Druids, I switch to Miracle Rogue, etc etc.  That's how most legend players get their edge.  If you stick to one deck because you're comfortable with it, you could be playing into a meta that it's just not good for.  Watch reddit/r/competitiveHS - as soon as someone posts a deck there, it's 60% of ladder.  When Token Shaman was posted there 2 months ago, I switched to a control Priest that farmed the ever loving #### out of the Shaman decks and high rolled something like 23-2 from rank 15 to 3, etc etc.

yes I know about the win streak at rank 5.  That is what I meant by my progress grinds to a halt when I lose the bonus star.

I do try to switch decks when I play.  Since I am f2p, I don't have every deck at my disposal.  I do tend to lean to control though.

I don't totally suck as a player, I have over 8000 wins on ladder and every hero is Golden.  I just can't seem to get over the hump.

Ah, you know more than me then.  With 8000 wins, that means you must have been playing for a long time.  Try some wild!

Im down for some PUBG squad action.   Ive got 120+hours in the game.. big fan of finding a vehicle and getting far away from the plane to loot/gear up in peace and then roll into the safe zone looking for action

Send me your steam name?  We could at least start with some duos. Until we find a 4th (weebs plays too so just need 1 more).

I can play tonight around 830/9 EST

Finished Prey earlier today.  This is a decent game that greatly overstays its welcome.  Its like Bioshock, only every enemy deals a ####load of damage, and as if there 20+ hours of gameplay in the crap levels that come after Fort Frolic.  Honestly, there's a good game here somewhere, but it was a real chore to play after a while.

Started Hitman, and very happy with this one after just the tutorials.

So I just bought an Xbox One for my 7 year old and I plan on playing it a little at some point, too.  I know nothing about games these days but looking for suggestions.

The last system I owned was the first Xbox. Halo and all that.  I know games are way more advanced now so I don't have a clue.  My favorite game back then was  the first Ghost Recon. I loved planning missions and trying to take over ####.

How does it even work now? Do you just download the games you want? Would love to play some type of military game like those again.  I used to love role playing games all the way back to the first Final Fantasy on Nintendo but I think they're probably way too advanced now and not sure I have the time to do that. The last RPG game I really played was Final Fantasy 7

Path of Exile's newest expansion comes out Friday August 4th. Its free to play diablo style action RPG. Can't really do it justice trying to describe it, but the previously 4 act game is adding 6 additional acts for 10 total.

The 3.0 Expansion trailer

It also just entered beta for Xbox, where it will also be free to play.

Can't recommend this game highly enough especially if you enjoy Diablo 1 or 2. Its nothing like Diablo 3, to clarify.

I have been hyping this in this thread.  I can't wait!

Also while I'm here, for those of you who enjoy CCGs, I have been playing the hell out of Elder Scrolls Legends and have to say its easily the best online CCG atm having played many of them and all of the big ones.

With the addition of the twitch drop system it makes building your collection a breeze.

oh cool, thanks for the poe planner link.  I was considering Frostblade as well.

Are there any unique's I should be looking for with this build?
You can reasonably do it with swords or daggers, but I think the Touch of Anguish claw is too good to pass for this build, providing a free chain effect (or two while dual wielding.)

Frostblades also has a threshold jewel that you can have two of that are very strong called Fight for Survival, one of the best parts about starting frost blades this league will be that a new vendor will sell threshold jewels so you wont have to hunt or buy them from players.

Other than that most things are just whatever fits in, Starkonja's Head or Rat's Nest, Belly of the Beast, The Wise Oak flask. I'm personally gonna be running Darkray Vectors as they synergize well and give 16% more dodge chance with 8 frenzy charges.

please post if and when you try it.  I am interested to see how they port a game like this to a controller.
I really enjoyed it.  Played probably 6-8 hours this weekend and got my character to level 20 i think.  The button layout worked really well.  You have 8 ability slots (A, B, X, Y and then you can pull and hold the right trigger for the 2nd set of A, B, X, Y).  Potions are the bumpers and d-pad.  Picking up items was easy and moving them around your pack and from pack to stash was simple as well.

Gameplay wise, I really like that potions just re-fill as you kill monsters.  You don't have to worry about buying more potions or finding them.  I also like that abilities are gems you find, rather than a skill tree.  And you can socket and un-socket any gem.  Lastly, the passive skill tree is massive which is pretty cool.

Overall excited for the official release.  I'm not sure where real money comes into play, though.  The game will be free upon release, so I guess it's in-game purchases where real money is spent?

If you're buying for your kid as well as you then start with Lego games. They're simple adventure puzzle games and follow all our favorite movies or comics (Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Harry Potter, Jurassic Park, Marvel, Batman, etc) pretty faithfully while adding a lot of humor that the adults understand having seen the movies or comics many times. Great simple fun to play with your kid and all are pretty cheap.

For you, there is a new Ghost Recon. Wildlands. Pretty great game. You can get the Master Chief collection for cheap that has Halo 1-4.

You can buy the physical disc still if you want.  However, once you download a game and not have to get up from the couch to change to another one, you won't want physical copies again. There are a couple RPGs available that play like older style games but honestly there are so many games to choose from you'll have to see what piques your interest.

Have fun man.

Just got a switch.   Pretty cool minus any instructions      It came with Zelda and my daughter refuses to try it

Guess I'm going to have to try and sneak in some Zelda time.

Do they make like protective cases?   It did come wit a travel case.

I'm assuming any Type -C USB can charge it on the go?

Zelda is awesome.  I've only seen travel cases but they probably have something. And yes.

@John Bender

My steam name should just be Weebs. My profile picture is the laughing scene from good fellas. Man I have to many hours in pubg...Some of that has to be idle time.

I had a hilarious win yesterday in duos. My teammate died and I ended up killing the last 4 to were it was 1v1 and we were both prone in the grass. We started blind firing at each other through the grass and I wasn't paying attention to my ammo. The final blue started which forced him to me and he rushed me, I fired 5 shots and ran out of ammo. He died to the blue while shooting me lol.

the game sticks to its free to play roots.  You can play the entire game as long as you want and have access to everything for free.

The way POE makes money is two fold

1) cosmetics: people buy things to make their character look cooler, have better looking magic affects, have pets with them etc, but it does not affect game play at all, no advantages

2) increases and advancements in the stash : This is their big money maker.  If you play the game a lot, multiple builds, you will find the stash is too small.  You can buy a bigger stash and then you can buy specialty tabs that sort things like currency, divination cards etc automatically.  While this does affect game play directly, it is important if you want to start buying and selling and storing for future characters.

#2 I have spent a little on over the years but still less than a regular game costs.

Don't get them Lego Worlds though.  I got that for my kids on the Xbox One and it's broken.  They can't play 15-20 minutes without the game freezing or crashing.  I wish I could get a refund.
