Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (7 Viewers)

"#####, don't call me while I'm playing the Gears of Warrrr!"

I wonder how Herbal Enforcer is doing nowadays.
I didn't really want to bring it up because it probably wasn't a good memory for you, but I've thought about it a lot and it's one of my favorites.

That one battle on Clocktower where you were Cole train circling around one of those little 3-column rock structures at the top of the stairs.  You had your gnasher out and I had the longshot.  You just happened to strafe to your right and peek through the middle of the columns.  Then I fired from the hip, your head exploded and the round was over.  The chat went nuts, it was so lit man lmao

I'll always be thankful for those times

twitch has been around for years.  In short, it is web site where you can watch people play games.

It is totally free as a viewer.

If you like a channel, you can choose to either donate or buy a subscription to help support the streamer (the subscriptions get you small items like a little more functions in chat but it is basically just a way to support the streamer).

The streamer keeps 100% of any donations you give, and they share with twitch any subscription fees they take in.  All subscriptions are $5 a month.

The pretty females streamers can do well in donations, where as the hard core gamers live off the subscriptions.
I remember when it was just merely justin.tv.  Then they became Twitch, then Amazon bought them and now it's the platform for video games.  Love Twitch

I stream sports games. In particular I stream heavily my franchise modes on The Show and Madden. I also develop sliders for sports games....and yeah I have a pretty damn big following for that (I am known as Armor And Sword in sports gaming circles).

It has swelled up over the past 7 years. I just like sharing my settings so other sports gamers can enjoy the game in the style I play it (and those that like to play my simulation ratings driven, clean screen style in their sports games where they do not look to exploit the CPU).

I have met many very cool people via Twitch on my streams. I don't do it nearly like these "professional" streamers. I do not use a camera. I do have a mic.....and no I am not family friendly. I am a gen X old school sports gamer, who loves to do play by play in my streams, talk sports, and talk about the franchises as I have storylines galore. Yeah I am a sports gaming geek.....but I do not have the time to stream full time at all. It is merely a hobby. But somehow I have over two thousand followers and typically when I am beta testing sliders for The Show or Madden I will draw in 200-300 viewers. It's fun. But wow. This Ninja guy (who my kid watches a lot as he and his entire baseball team are Fortnite addicts) he has it going on. Good for him.

why do I want to watch other people play games?

I used to watch old justin.tv trying to find illegal PPV streams back in the day.

Their business plan to switch to twitch was one of the great pivots in web site history.

why do I want to watch other people play games?
No idea for you specifically.

Some people watch for entertainment of the streamer, some enjoy watching the tournaments (esports), some watch to check out a new game they want to play, some watch to get tips on something they are stuck on, some watch for epic fails and salt etc etc etc.

Some of the bigger twitch channels draw larger audiences than many cable tv programs.

Only reason I know what Twitch is because of the South Park episode 3 or so years ago detailing this exact topic. I feel exactly like your question (which is asked multiple times during the episode by different characters who are then called a "grandpa" by Ike.)

I've tried watching some of the esports shows on TBS, and just can't get into it. I can see the appeal to watch someone else playing as like a demo or review before buying the game, but otherwise, I guess I am a grandpa.

it should be also noted that while twitch is primarily for gaming there is other content.

I follow a cooking channel that is great.

And I probably flipped my #### over it. I don't remember that particular instance, but I do remember being in a YouTube video one of us recorded getting rolled up on by another player while I'm (painfully failing) trying to shoot him and getting one-shotted in impressive fashion. That was a bit humbling lol.

Also, I don't recall using the gnasher very much. I was a shotgun-or-nothing type IIRC. I lived for flanking and one-shotting unsuspecting players.

Anyone here have or are planning to get Sea of Thieves for the XBox/PC? I was thinking about getting Game Pass just for it, but I don't play online games unless I'm with a crew I know. I'm shy lol.

Was thinking it might be fun if we got the old Gears crew back together for some pirating.

The internet/gaming has passed me by apparently.  Twitch? Broadcast for money?

It is something to do in between yelling at kids to get off your lawn.

As i said in my original post

I think tangozulu made an edit to that effect forever ago, back when it was practically unthinkable for normal people to have a capture card.

its funny, i was literally just thinking about this when the posts were made.   The very first time I played with people from here, I didn't know anybody.  I was down to myself vs 2 or 3 - forget how many (I know Oats was 1 :) ).  I'm hiding out behind the tombstones and wall from whatever the board with the mansion was.   A bunch of rolls - shotguns and I managed the win, in hilarious fashion and the lobby was awesome.  I was decent at the game but never real good.  But it was so much fun

I remember the Lancer being the starter weapon but drawing blank on the semiauto one.

Apparently it was the hammerburst.  I'd forgotten about the Hammer of Dawn too.

http://gearsofwar.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Gears_of_War_weapons
Yes, the hammerburst. It was one of the alternates to the Lancer, along with the Hammer of Dawn, which was amazing if used properly.

Now I want some Milwaukee's Best Light because I drank that stuff almost exclusively during the Great Gears Era of the mid-2000s.

This may have been the infamous "Jake Lloyd vs Darth Maul" comment I made in chat. It was down to you and one of the heavy hitters in our group (possibly Ren, but I don't remember).

I miss the Hammer of Dawn, such an amazing concept for a weapon. They really deemphasized it in the later sequels. Although adding Horde mode and some of the other new weapons like the mortar and gatling gun made up for it.

And one of my favorite and most feared pieces of dialogue in a game ever thanks to Horde mode...

"Boom!"

the website appears to be down. What's the premise?

I remember this well. I think the lobby was busting chops because you were uber cautious / hiding. Then you pulled off the incredible comeback.

Cancelled my pre-order after the Beta due to all the comments about it being pointless to play it single-player, don't like the idea of partnering with randoms just to play a game. Get off my lawn...

Was going to wait for final reviews and hopefully some comments from in here. If there's enough of a following I might could be convinced to order it again.

I assume you're over at Operation Sports?  I've dabbled in the sliders for The Show and Madden, meaning I've used sliders from OS for franchise modes.

Twitch spawned from Justin.tv   And blew up into something much greater.
This is arguably one of the greatest modern internet web based success stories.

In 2011, Justin.tv was almost worth nothing.  They took a shot and spun off twitch.tv as almost a last gasp effort.

Just 3 years later, Amazon bought them for $970m in cash.

Yep. The best sports gaming forum around.

@IvanKaramazov so what was your final verdict on Andromeda?  Last update I read was you were not happy with the ability, or lack thereof, to command squad mates.  I was able to access that feature on PC but @Insein said he never figured it out for Xbox.
Yea and I haven't played it since I beat it. Was just too bummed about it not being supported anymore.

Basically an all-online game about pirates and pirating. Best played with a group of people and is very light-hearted in nature.
Played solo all last night and enjoyed it. I attacked a larger boat, ran, hide, came around the island and attacked them again, ran etc... couldn't sink them and they couldn't catch me, so I gave up.  Just sailed around and explored for the most part. didn't complete one quest. If you have gamepass I would try it, other wise I am not sure its worth $60 yet

Btw, we, as in Unialias, Pete4999, myself and my wife still play now and again. Anyone is welcome to join in our shananigans. :bellshootin:

I can actually see this as one of the first games to make new online friends with in a long time with their match making and game chat use. Most games now everyone party chats up right away. The game is great fun with a 2-4 people. Solo could get iffy but I would just matchmake. Defineately give it a try with game pass like I have, it’s worth it and you get lots of other games to play as well.

My favorite:

Flank to behind unsuspecting player. Aim shotgun at head.

POW

Me: "Wait, what..."

*player chainsaws me*

Me: "-insert series of explitives here-"
Gears never changes. Still happens and it’s glorious when I do it to people in King of the Hill.

My teenage son is addicted to FortNite like everyone else, to the point that I may need to establish a time limit that he plays. And I have never had to do that for any other game he has ever played.

Caused me to open up twitch for the first time in forever, and watch @ninja play FortNite for about 40 min. With 99,000+ other people. Was amazed. Not only is the guy really good (never lost in three matches), but was entertaining, funny, educational about game play, and got all of his plugs in like a seasoned radio or TV pro.

Your a pirate roaming the seas. It is very very open ended. Their are three “merchant” factions that give you quests to complete to get money. But to be honest from 10+ hours of gameplay from the beta and now the main game. It’s all just about crafting a experience that you choose with randoms or friends. The actually game is the vehicle to do so.

Last night we did three quests of gathering chests from treasure maps and then found  a message in a bottle that lead us to four boss skeletons that we needed their skulls to return with. We had so much trouble running circles with only our pistols and sword versus obviously high level tough enemies. An hour of death and laughter we finally got them. We go back to town and notice we could of got a sniper rifle or blunderbus to do major damage instead of hand to hand combat. We were so stupid.

Next we sailed into the distant sunset (this game has the most beautiful sunset and water physics in any game ever!!) as three people were playing the lute and zilaphone in tune as another dances on the crows nest of the boat. My friends girlfriend couldn’t stop laughing and starting drinking beer up top and got drunk to where she stumbled off the edge. To our shock she lived but had broken legs and stumbled around drunk and gimpy trying to chase her boyfriend around the boat.

We also found the command to banish a person into the brig. His shock turned to hilarious banter when he realized we all stealth voted to lock him up. Later the joke was on us when we were antagonizing him, because there is a time limit they have to stay in the jail which we didn’t know about. We were stormed by another crew as we danced downstairs not watching the seas.

Our ship sunk after its glorious night of pillaging and laughter. Seriously haven’t laughed this much with a game in forever. Also well we all used sucky pirate accents randomly so the terrible puns where flowing. Btw, my friend went down with the ship inside the brig lol.

The content of Sea of Thieves may be lacking for super long term people, but if you get 2-4 people or with randoms and want to have a fantastic night or 60 hours, it’s the best Investment in entertainment around.

Ninja's wild man.  I've watched him for a long time, dating back to when he played Halo almost exclusively around 2010 or so.  I swear it was only a few years ago he was pulling as little as 2-300 viewers streaming Halo.  But I'm glad to see him doing well, he really was born for this.  He's kind of the physical embodiment of the supremely talented videogame player living in an internet bubble future.
