Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (5 Viewers)

And I think I balled myself even worse...  Went back to the old save, caught up to where I was, replaced the old save with only 2 guys on 3 day injury, didn't think that was bad.  Well I was wrong, overseer mission happens instantly and those two guys on IR happen to be my only 2 upgraded snipers, probably the units I use the most.  I'm not sure this mission is going to go any better this time...  I don't know how any of you guys plan this on ironman and can get anywhere.  It's difficult to survive any mistake.
Made it out and saved the world.  Really enjoyed that game, I need to start it up again in a couple weeks/months with a much tougher difficulty and see how it goes for me now that I understand the mechanics better.

Game really reminds me of an old favorite of mine, Battle Isle: Incubation.  It was a early 3D squad turn based combat game in probably the early 2000's.  Had to figure out how to get that game working on every new PC I purchased.  Finally got a copy from GOG recently so it will play on Windows10.  Always like giving that game an occasional run.

I will give it another look. I played the crap out of it for the first 2 months....got old real fast and never went back.

Curious.
Yeah I'm the same way. It's a game you need to be in a very specific mood you want to play. Kind of like city building games for me. The one or 2 weeks of the year you really want to play it, you gotta play it.

But it's a game I always find myself at far and distant points I want to come back to for a bit, so I've always kept it.

No Man's Sky? Anyone playing?
I haven't had much time to devote to it yet, but I hope to make some real progress this weekend.

I messed around for about 20 minutes on Tues night trying out Survival mode, and after dying several times and basically screwing that save permanently, now I have a better idea of what to do on the next try. Time is extremely precious on that mode and you need to make every second count if you want to get off-planet.

I like it already.

Yeah it seems these devs have pulled off the impossible and really transformed this game. I felt it was fun but too simplistic and easy when it was first released. I enjoyed that it kicked me right in the teeth this time around, even if that means some lost progress.

I’m confused, what is kicking everyone’s ###?  I thought No Man’s Sky was just flying and exploring?  I didn’t even think their were enemies.

The premise was that you start on a planet and have to "evolve" so to speak and build space faring equipment to even get off that planet. Then go from there.

There's different modes, similar to difficulty levels. There's a creative mode where everything is available for free, for people who just want to build stuff.

Normal mode is the original launch scenario that you're referring to, mostly similar to Survival but with more readily available resources and the planet you spawn on isn't immediately trying to murder you.

And then there's Permadeath mode.

Predatory species, sentinels, cold, heat, acid rain, radiation.....

ETA: Oh and I forgot space pirates.

Ok now I’m intrigued.

Is the game beatable on survival mode or do you just try to improve survival length?

There's no length timer; Survival plays the same as Normal, just more difficult. You can keep playing the same character indefinitely, assuming you can make it through a tough beginning stretch (I failed miserably on my first try). Essentially, it's for people who want more of a challenge while exploring and going through the quest chain.

I imagine, however, that just like in most sandbox games, Survival mode gets much easier once you've made a bunch of money and acquired high level tech/resources. And there is some RNG involved... your starting planet's environment plays a huge factor in your ability to get rolling.

I had about 45 hours in at release and then quit.  I played a few hours last night and was impressed by the changes.  I didn't want to use my old save as I wanted to remember how to play the game before I did and I'm glad I did.  Apparently there are some items that you can't get if you had already started pre-patch (although I'm sure that will get fixed).  I hit a few planets and started the "base building" aspect of the game which is really cool.

I found where to buy a class S scanner, just need some more of those special credits and I'll have it.  A couple of my friends have it and are making like 80,000 credits every time they scan something, way more efficient than mining for resources.  I also changed my race to Gek.  I'm a sweet battle-toad now.  Logged off right after doing that as I had a 6am conference call today but I'm really looking forward to more time this weekend.

Yep, I just bought that S class scanner myself. Pretty awesome. Gives a lot farther range too, makes finding ruins and such a lot easier. Really useful item for me as I have OCD and try to 100% every planet I visit before I leave. You get a big nanite bonus (like 400-500) for 100%-ing.

I didn't have enough nanites to buy it yet but I know right where it is for when I do.  Can't wait.

I also had an S class exotic ship show up at one of the space stations but I couldn't afford it.  It cost like 18 million credits and I was short about 17,996,000.

I’ve never understood the fun in watching other people play video games. The whole point for me is that I’m in control of what’s happening. Probably why I also don’t like multiplayer co-op. ?
Couch Coop games can be a hoot.  Remote multiplayer stuff is mostly for the birds.

I will only play in Permadeath mode:

Planet 1: Surface temp -57 degrees C - Cause of death: Froze to death in under 3 minutes.

Planet 2: Surface temp -51 degrees C - Cause of death: Fell to death while using jetpack. Died in under 3 minutes.

Planet 3:Surface temp 12.4 degrees C - Cause of death: Combination of toxic rain and injuries accosted with jetpack. Died in under 3 minutes.

Planet 4:Surface temp -26.6 degrees C - Cause of death: Toxix level >210%. Died almost immediately

Planet 5: Surface temp. TO DAMN HOT. Died of heatstroke.

Is permadeath also multiplayer?

Tempting - and sure I'll hate it

I picked up Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition on sale for 19 bucks the other day. haven't opened it yet, I'm waiting for a day when I don't have anything to do and my wife is out running errands.
UPDATE: I haven't even opened it yet.  :bag:

before I opened it, I started up my FO4 game on a whim, and I'm having way more fun with it than I was before. maybe because I finally went to check out Diamond City, and I'm doing the bare minimum on settlements. since I don't like playing multiple games at once, so I'm going to try and finish FO4 before I crack open HZD. and yes, I'm aware it could be months. *sigh* but at least I'm having fun with FO4 again! headshotting raiders from a distance and hearing the 'cha-ching!' of a kill never gets old.

No Man's Sky? Anyone playing?
Tried it again. I like it for a little while.....then I realize it is one giant grind. Just a huge PITA constantly managing resources. Really annoying after a while.

Not my cup of tea.

Actually in a rut for the first time in a long time. Kinda burnt out on playing most games other than The Show, Madden and 2K.

Need to take a long long break from non-sports games. Then come back with something fresh.

This is exactly how I am. Sports games are my constant. Always in season and always in the mood for them. So much so that I have to pull myself away before I burn out, cause burn outs will happen with absolutely anything you do it enough, and force myself to play a story here or there. FPSs are usually fun too, with friends.

Ok tried No Mans Sky one more time this morning. Was placed on a much cooler planet to start. A frozen planet. Got into my own storyline and yeah.....enjoying it again. Found a cave asap to get in from the cold.

Took me a little while to get my legs under me again. Just taking my time though. Want to explore this planet a lot before I head out on my ship.

My brother got a PS4 Pro, so he sold us his old PS4 cheap, giving us two.

Girlfriend and I started playing No Man's Sky together last night...wow. It's so good and we aren't even through the tutorial yet
