Vikings released WR Todd Pinkston. After being cut by Philadelphia in August, he was signed to be a key part of Minnesota's receiver-by-committee. Pinkston's Achilles heels cannot be healthy. He was replaced on the roster by Maurice Mann.

It's probably a salary move. If he is on the roster for the first game, his entire salary is guaranteed for the season. If they cut him, they can pick him up next week (assuming no one else does) and pay him game by game (I believe). Minimizes their exposure if he can't get healthy and its just a small risk that someone else picks him up, especially if he is in on it.The Vikes did something similar with KRob last year, if I recall.that did not take long .... something must be up if the Vikes, with such a strong WR corps, cuts Pinkston
fixedUpgrade T.Will nobody?
Interesting.Since Maurice Mann was on Seattle's practice squad when he was signed, I believe he must remain on Vikings the active roster for three weeks. So the Vikings would have to cut somebody else next week to re-sign Pinkston. It's probably a salary move. If he is on the roster for the first game, his entire salary is guaranteed for the season. His speed was his best asset and just about his only above average one. If he lost that he's toast.

Absofreakinloutely! I grabbed him in three leagues in the 12th-14th rounds. Great value for a kid making a ton of money and who was drafted to be Randy Moss' successor. He may not come close, but this isn't the Tice administration. He'll be given every opportunity to be the #1 in Minny.Texican said:Upgrade T.Will?

I tend to agree that he is not gonna be any kind of huge part of the team, but if nothing else he knows the offense and can fill a WR spot if needed. Many reports I read when he was picked up said it was unlikely he stayed on for the first game unless completely healthy. Not sure my response warranted the size 7 response though.Anyways, here: LinkBojang0301 said:Fla\/\/ed said:PINKSTON SUCKSMaelstrom said:It's probably a salary move. Vikings release Pinkston
BY DON SEEHOLZER
Pioneer Press
One week to the day after signing free-agent wide receiver Todd Pinkston, the Vikings abruptly released him today.
Coach Brad Childress was unavailable for comment on the move, which was announced nearly two hours after the end of today's practice, but Pinkston apparently was still working himself into shape after sitting out most of the Philadelphia Eagles' preseason because of Achilles tendinitis.
As a vested veteran, Pinkston would have had his entire 2006 salary guaranteed if he had been on the Vikings' opening-day roster, but he could be re-signed at a later date.
The team filled his spot Saturday by signing wide receiver Maurice Mann off Seattle's practice squad.
I normally would agree -- never like wishing ill will on anyone that plays the sport of kings, better than diamond rings. etc. After watching that clib that fatness posted, though, I don't blame a squad for questioning how he employed that talent on the field.Rovers said:As opposed to those who seem to be celebrating....
