the ARI game goes to the top of the queue for NFL replay.
has a QB ever converted four 4th downs on a final game winning drive?
VY has only been a starting QB for about the equivalent of about two years, and could get better. he definitely seems to have grown as a passer already.
With the right coaching, I think he's far from finished growing as a qb, and is nowhere near as good as he can be.
from the week 11 ETTG*...** VY is sometimes dissed for his unorthodox throwing motion and delivery. he does have a good arm, and obviously when at his best, can be accurate. lots of QBs have suceeded with an unorthodox throwing motion/delivery (for instance, philip rivers recently).
* Vince Young
Young's dynasty prospects have risen like a Phoenix from the ashes of the Titans shocking 0-6 start to the 2009 season, leading TEN to a 3-0 record since getting back in the saddle as starting QB for the first time in over a year. The former third overall pick in the 2006 draft, Offensive Rookie of the Year and Pro Bowler had a promising NFL career derailed, after a sophomore slump, 2008 week one knee injury, controversial personal issues and "interim" starter Kerry Collins leading the Titans to a league best 13-3 record conspired to bury him on the bench until the team's horrific start to this season led to an intervention by owner Bud "We're #1" Adams, who had a strong interest in finding out if VY was indeed TEN's franchise QB of the future, with potentially $14 million due in 2010 to retain his services. Since returning to the starting lineup, he has played well in compiling a 90+ QB rating in three straight games for the first time in his pro career. Young sports an impressive 21-11 record as a starter, and could win his eighth straight start (dating back to 2007) in a huge MNF divisional tilt and homecoming game against the Houston Texans. Young has overcome adversity before. Despite being struck by a car and nearly killed as a child, he went on to a storied prep career (3,500+ yards and FIFTY NINE TDs as a senior, Parade's National Player of the Year and Sporting News top high school prospect). While his father was in prison, he had a luminous career with the Longhorns, with one of the best resumes for a QB in NCAA history. More recently, former idol and pro mentor Steve McNair was tragically murdered. Some of the questions about how well his unique and unprecedented physical traits and skill set for the QB position, which enabled him to dominate at the prep/collegiate level (bigger and stronger than Michael Vick and Randall Cunningham, faster and a more dangerous runner than Donovan McNabb and Daunte Culpepper), would translate as a pro, had to be put on hold for the past year plus. While he entered the league as a suspect passer, he did show improvement every year in Texas, with the biggest jump in his final season. His time on the bench with the Titans seems to have been a humbling experience, and he has used it to grow as an NFL signal caller. Young has done a good job of playing within himself and the scheme. He has a TD pass or rush in each of his three starts (just missing another rushing TD Sunday), his passing yardage numbers are trending up (125 - 172 - 210) and he has only 1 INT in that span. Young looks comfortable running the offense and his confidence could be soaring. It helps that he has an excellent OL and brilliant second year speed merchant RB Chris Johnson, who has sprinted past Adrian Peterson for the NFL rushing lead. The mere presence of Johnson's terrifying deep speed in the lineup not only takes a lot of direct defensive game plan attention and pressure off of Young, but gives him an electrifying option in the passing game, as he is quickly becoming one of, if not the most explosive and dangerous receiving weapons out of the backfield in the league (the return to health of Pro Bowl CB Cortland Finnegan and nickel safety Vincent Fuller has elevated the secondary and defense as a whole, as well as helping boost the team's overall fortunes). While Young faces an uphill battle as a passer to ever become an elite fantasy option, he has a chance to be a special runner at the position (one of the best ever, with Vick). If he continues his string of maturing and developing play, and to lead the Titans to victory, he should be well on his way to rehabilitating his image and restoring himself to the point of NFL and fantasy football relevance once again.
