I say no.
The dude has talent, but he's a headcase. He's saying all the right things now. Lets see what he does under pressure.......
I'm going to mildly dispute this. I'll agree he at least isn't saying utterly wrong things. But to be clear, the right thing for Vince to say is, "I realized I haven't put enough effort into learning this game. My physical ability isn't going to be enough to obtain the success I'd like, and I'm rededicating myself to improving my passing, abilities to read the defense and to play within the pocket." In short, to realize he's the one responsible for where he's at today, and he's going to be responsible for where he ends up tomorrow.Instead what has he said?
"I feel like it was a good fit for myself. I had a lot of opportunities, but I felt like this was a great opportunity for me to get better as a quarterback and learn from [Andy Reid], as well as learn from the rest of the quarterbacks here."
"I feel like being in contact with Marty [Mornhinweg ] as well as guys like Andy that's very smart and knows quarterbacks," Young said. "I really feel they're going to do a great job with expanding my career a little bit more and getting more knowledge and bringing my game to where I want it to be at."
One can say I'm nitpicking too much and I won't completely disagree... but his statements sound to me like he thinks the reasons he failed with the Titans was because the Titans failed to teach him, rather than thinking the reason he failed is because he didn't have the mindset and hard work to improve where he needed to. He sounds like he thinks he's going to a better teacher and that's the solution to the problem rather than adjusting his own attitude and effort.I think the 'rock star' mentality that is being applied to the Eagles is exactly what VY needs to stay away from. I think he has a sense of entitlement that is the root cause of his problems in the NFL.
And I'm going to contrast VY there with Vick. I recall some quotes from Vick that unfortunately I didn't find when googling for them to quote exactly. But IIRC, he said that he hadn't applied himself in his first stint with the NFL, that he hadn't worked as hard as he could. For Vick, prison opened his eyes to how easy it was to lose what he had. He had the same sense of entitlement that I have sensed in VY interviews all through his time in the NFL. Vick's words are an example of the kind of comment I want to hear from Young before I believe that he's going to turn things around. I think until then he'll win some games here and there with his legs, but the elite teams and especially elite defenses are going to stymie him and he'll be unlikely to get a team all the way over the hump unless his teammates carry him instead of the other way around.
