Michael Vick has just made his comeback but he is still getting old and plays a punishing style of QB. Is he going to be able to play QB until he is 35? Will VY be successfully recovered? This is relatively far ranging but it does have some serious dynasty implications. I say VY has a serious future with the Eagles.

I say no.

The dude has talent, but he's a headcase. He's saying all the right things now. Lets see what he does under pressure.......

I looked for the button that said "Hell NO" but didn't see it............WHY would you even think that?

The Eagles hope Vick will be their QB for several years.

VY is there on a one year deal and they will hope to flip him for something of value if he proves himself this year.

You are right about long term for Vick vs 1 year for Young. But you can't flip him for anything on a if he proves himself this year. You can't trade a free agent.

I think Young will be elsewhere in 2012. This was just a marriage of convenience. We need a backup, Young needs a place that can simultaneously rehabilitate his reputation and teach him a thing or two about becoming a real passer.

I say "no" and it has nothing to do with Young himself. Vick is 30 and Young is signed to a one year deal. Doubt he even wants to stick around next year to be a back-up. This move was made only to increase his demand next year if he plays the good soldier and looks good in spot duty.

if he does this successfully and signs a decent contract, the Eagles get a supplemental pick as compensation. Works pretty good for them

I also looked for the "hell no" button. Believe it or not, there are still fools in Houston that call into the radio shows and complain that we didn't sign him during free agency since he is a "winner" and Schaub "is not a closer". It is painful to listen to. If I could karate chop someone through the radio, I would.

Wow. So many think there's absolutely no chance?

I wonder how many of these people thought there was a chance Vick could be the Eagles' long-term QB before the '09 season.

Personally, I'm just coming to believe that Andy Reid works magic with QBs. I love Vick, but I wouldn't be shocked to see him get hurt or have a disappointing season. If Young gets a chance, it's highly possible he could play well. Every other QB under Reid does.

I doubt VY is ever a long-term option for the Eagles, but stranger things have happened (you know, like Vick coming in fresh out the joint and pushing Donovan and Kolb, the HOFer in waiting, out of town within 2 years).

I didn't say anything about waitng until next year - could easily be a team that loses a quarterback late in the year that would give a draft pick for VY to finish the season if he has looked good for the Eagles

I'm going to mildly dispute this. I'll agree he at least isn't saying utterly wrong things. But to be clear, the right thing for Vince to say is, "I realized I haven't put enough effort into learning this game. My physical ability isn't going to be enough to obtain the success I'd like, and I'm rededicating myself to improving my passing, abilities to read the defense and to play within the pocket." In short, to realize he's the one responsible for where he's at today, and he's going to be responsible for where he ends up tomorrow.Instead what has he said?

"I feel like it was a good fit for myself. I had a lot of opportunities, but I felt like this was a great opportunity for me to get better as a quarterback and learn from [Andy Reid], as well as learn from the rest of the quarterbacks here."
"I feel like being in contact with Marty [Mornhinweg ] as well as guys like Andy that's very smart and knows quarterbacks," Young said. "I really feel they're going to do a great job with expanding my career a little bit more and getting more knowledge and bringing my game to where I want it to be at."
One can say I'm nitpicking too much and I won't completely disagree... but his statements sound to me like he thinks the reasons he failed with the Titans was because the Titans failed to teach him, rather than thinking the reason he failed is because he didn't have the mindset and hard work to improve where he needed to. He sounds like he thinks he's going to a better teacher and that's the solution to the problem rather than adjusting his own attitude and effort.I think the 'rock star' mentality that is being applied to the Eagles is exactly what VY needs to stay away from. I think he has a sense of entitlement that is the root cause of his problems in the NFL.

And I'm going to contrast VY there with Vick. I recall some quotes from Vick that unfortunately I didn't find when googling for them to quote exactly. But IIRC, he said that he hadn't applied himself in his first stint with the NFL, that he hadn't worked as hard as he could. For Vick, prison opened his eyes to how easy it was to lose what he had. He had the same sense of entitlement that I have sensed in VY interviews all through his time in the NFL. Vick's words are an example of the kind of comment I want to hear from Young before I believe that he's going to turn things around. I think until then he'll win some games here and there with his legs, but the elite teams and especially elite defenses are going to stymie him and he'll be unlikely to get a team all the way over the hump unless his teammates carry him instead of the other way around.

No. Anyways Young is only 2 years younger than Vick.
3 years. As for the OP, it all depends on whether or not he actually rehabs here. Comments like the Dream Team show that he still isn't thinking. Backup QB's don't talk to the media. Especially one that was here for 5 mins. If he learns the offense and if Vick gets seriously hurt, he could be the long term solution here god forbid. Andy loves mobile QBs.

It sounds like improving is something that someone else is going to do to him, not something he's going to do to himself.

Thank you, that expressed the vibe his comments give me far more succinctly than I did. :)

Maybe Vick will help this jackass to see the light.

With that said, I would like to hear from current Vick owners that have traded for VY or VY owners that traded VY to the Vick owner. I want to gauge VY's value.

if philadelphia defines quarterback of the future as the guy who doesnt play much and is not a good passer and is pretty much not a good quarterback then vince young is the quarterback of the future maybe him and ronnie brown can sit on the bench and see how much they can eat

Except they have this little thing called a trade deadline, that isn't late in the year.
