Vincent Brown (1 Viewer)

He's having surgery today. We might get a better time frame for recovery after that. Kevin Acee said at least eight weeks, noting that that is extremely optimistic and it could be much longer. (I don't know where he got his info.)

Really a bummer because even though Brown was fourth on the depth chart, he's been the best wide receiver in camp.

Kevin Acee: "Expectation is that Vincent Brown can play second half of season. May have been slight ligament damage. Chargers likely keep him on roster."

Playing in the 2nd half would really be huge for him if he's healthy. He really needs to get on the field and prove to the Chargers that he can be a top 2 WR for them in 2013 with M. Floyd being a free agent.

One of the Chargers vets apparently told Acee last night that "he's our best receiver" referring to Brown.

on the bright side, at least its a broken ankle and not an ACL. He should be fully healed enough to show he's a goto guy in the latter part of this year.

Does his ADP change at all? He was being taken as a flyer as is. If anything, he could be a waiver wire gem mid-season.

Gates said he ran the best routes.

He was going mid-12th round, that's not a flyer IMO. As for now, I wont even consider drafting him despite being in deep leagues, and I suspect he will go undrafted. If someone does draft him, I have a strong feeling he'll be dropped within a few weeks once bye weeks start so it'll be a moot point anyhow. In dynasty Id definitely go after him or hold if I already have him.

How do you feel about Vincent in 2013, 2014 - where is he on the "next big thing" list?
I think most people who tend to get enamored with YOUNG talented players often give them a blind pass and will maintain "hope" longer than it is deserved. My biggest concern whenever you are talking WR or DB is an injury at the knee or below. SO many guys just never get back to pre-injury form or take multiple seasons to do so, or end up having related injuries, like cpmpensating so much for one bad part that another part goes bad.For long-term outlook, I think it is safest at this point to lower him. Last week, I would have put him in a category along the likes of Jeremy Maclin; as promising as any young WR out there. Now I would have to lump him in a category that is a bit lower.

i think the time to buy is still now... buy low while you can in dynasty imo!
Not now, about week 4-ish when the Brown owner develops a hole in their lineup and needs to sell a prospect or pick to patch it. Brown probably won't have much redraft value, but a strong finish could re-open a spot for him next year. Staff was seeing him as a starter, that opportunity is not gone yet.

Brown was placed on Injured Reserve today, but the Chargers gave him the new "Designated To Return" tag, which means that he could be activated after Week 6.

Selected him in the 4th round of my 24 team dynasty league yesterday (we keep 10 so he was technically the 325th player rostered). Very excited for his future.

Any point in stashing Brown in re-dtaft leagues this season?
I'm wondering the same thing. If he's back later on the season and the rest of my wideouts on my roster stay healthy I'll keep him stashed away. He looked very good.
Just added him in a re-draft. It sounds like the soonest Brown is eligible to play would be week 9, although he's allowed to practice with team after week 6. The Week 9 game vs. KC would be just over 10 weeks after surgery.

Yes, but when depends on the depth of your league. I'm going to wait until October, let the dust settle on September and see which waiver wire gems are for real and which guys drafted can be put to pasture.

My leagues are deep, I think Brown was drafted in 2 of the 3 and now he's available in all 3. I will definitely target him around week 7 or 8. I dont see the point of doing so earlier, youre just wasting a bench spot you could use on a bye week kicker or something.

To each their own. This is a 16-team league with 15-man rosters. I never carry more than one kicker & D. Rather spend roster spots on guys that will make a real impact at some point.

I always just pick up another kicker during the bye week. Unless I really like my kicker and can afford the extra roster spot, most of the time I would rather have a flyer on my bench. More non-kickers=more lottery tickets.

With Brown, I like him, but like most of you, I'll wait except in super deep leagues. I like his talent, but he still hasn't proven a ton, and I wouldn't stash him this long. Would rather take a flyer on a backup running back. Kendall Hunter, Evan Royster, Bryce Brown, Robert Turbin, Daryl Richardson, Mike Goodson, Philip Tanner, etc who could bust at any time.

Or for a week like this, I'd rather grab Reuben Randle or Ramses Barden and see what they do with opportunity. If they don't impress, cut them and pick up next week's version of that.

Then whether you pick him up in week 5 or week 9 depends how much you value Brown's talent and how much you think the Chargers would use him. If Floyd and Meachem are hurt by week 6, I'd grab him ASAP because then his upside becomes worth stashing. I just think there's more upside in cycling through guys for a couple weeks and grabbing Brown later (and running the risk of missing him), then just stashing him for an extra month.

My leagues are 12 teams and IDP so a little different, but theyre the equivalent of 19 man rosters if it were Team D so essentially the same size as your league. I always have my bench stocked as well with RBs and WRs, and will take a 0 for a great K or a IDP instead of dropping bench value for a week, but at this point IMO Brown is not worth that. I think in any kind of redraft league, if he is still on a roster now he will be dropped in the next few weeks once the bye weeks come.I was really high on Brown, and definitely think picking him up before it comes into most people's minds is a wise move, but I think that could still be done in say week 6 without much sweat.

I scooped up Brown in three of my leagues as soon as he went on the "designated for return" list due to having available IR slots. He doesn't take up any bench space at all that way.The other leagues I'll wait him out just like anyone else that's injured/serving a suspension.
