Virtual Trophy (1 Viewer)

Lord of the Rings

Footballguy
For 10 years we've been sending our traveling trophy around from champion to champion. It's seen better days. It got me thinking... what if we could have an image of a trophy that has each champion enscribed on it. You can zoom in on the trophy, make it rotate, etc. Kind of like a virtual trophy for all to access. If we couldn't post it on our main page (MFL), maybe we could access a link or something. Is there any website out there that does this kind of thing? Anyone do something similar?

MODs, feel free to move this post to right forum if necessary. Not that you need my permission or anything :blackdot:

Doesn't seem like it would be nearly as satisfying as getting a real-life trophy.
I absolutely agree, but this would cut back on shipping costs, getting it to each owner in a timely fashion, getting it back from each owner in a timely fashion, having new plates engraved, trophy upkeep/repair, etc.Some of the owners in our league have never seen the trophy up close and personal so this would give them something to visualize.

I think a virtual trophy is about as meaningful as an e-card.A league trophy should be well-worn, tough to see and full of history. It means something. If owners want to see it up close and personal, they know what they have to do.

Put the following in a Home Page Message in the Commissioners-> Setup screen. Then add it to your home page. Edit the team and league names as necessary.

Also I'd follow all the links to http://members.aol.com/jspdy34/mfl/ (etc) and save the images to your local computer, and then find a website of your own you can store them on and change those URLs to pull from it. I meant to do that and obviously forgot as I just realized in getting the code for you guys that I still have the original links in there.

Code:

Already had someone PM me about how to add another row, so I'll just post here. Here's the code for a single plaque... this one in particular is for the last plaque on the first row:

<td><table class="plTable"><tbody><tr><td class="PlateTL"> </td><td class="Platestrip"> </td><td class="PlateTR"> </td></tr><tr><td class="PlateLeft"> </td><td class="PlateMid"><div><small>2003 League Champion<div>Stimpy's Glorious South</div><div>Owned by</div><div>Stimpy Holuszko</div></small></div></td><td class="PlateRight"> </td></tr><tr><td class="PlateBL"> </td><td class="Platestrip"> </td><td class="PlateBR"> </td></tr></tbody></table></td>Then here's the code immediately following it (after a bit of white space) that ends the row and starts a new one:
Code:
</tr><tr>
Then you'd use the snippet for a plaque right after it and just keep repeating that for as long as you want the row to be.I recall having some problems with getting things to line up properly for some other versions of it with different numbers of plaques on it. Though it was long enough ago I don't recall the particulars. Not sure I can help if that happens to anyone as I finally just settled on this when I got it to work right. Copied this code from someone else here who himself copied it from someone else.

Great stuff, guys. This board rocks. We have a real traveling trophy, but would love to have a trophy or wall of fame on the web site. I'll try your approach. Would be really cool if we could have a virtual replica of our real trophy. No idea how to make that happen, though.

We have a real plaque. Our old one ran out of nameplates so we just upgraded 2 years ago. We just completed our 13th year and have room for 20 I think. It will be amazing if we get to that milestone as none of us have been at our current jobs or been married for that length of time. It is the longest time commitment for any of us, ironically.

You really need to host the plaque image yourself on something like photobucket or image shack site. Replace you hosting and do not use this person host sitehttp://members.aol.com/jspdy34/mfl/. Before you know it he could change it and you'll have nothing. Just a FYI

Thanks, already said this in my original post though.

Here is ours. Ours is a lot larger due to the amount of years on the plaque.

Geez LAUNCH, you're 1-7 in the Super Bowl.You and I have similar luck.
3-6 :o I've had more crazy stuff happen from scrub players to my team in championships, but I guess it could be worst and have them happen in the playoffs and have less to show for.

We have a traveling trophy but also have this page, which has the winning teams roster.

Link
Holy crap, the #1 seed has never won in the 11 years listed. #3 seed is the place to be.
LOL that doesn't go unnoticed in our leagueMake it 0 for 12!

We have a week 17 championship but I don't think it makes much of a difference because the #1 seed has only played for the title twice in 12 years.

They always seem to get bumped by the wildcard team in week 16.

:confused: 8th in scoring - 3 titles

1st in scoring - 1 title

Do guys start tanking the last few weeks to drop from the top seed and #1 points spots?

Guys think about it but the playoff spots are often in doubt until the last week.12 teams, 5 teams make the playoffs. 3 division winners get a bye while the two wildcards do battle in week 15.

Just get to the playoffs and pray.

This year the #1 seed had Brady. He lost to the wildcard team with Warner and Tomlinson.

Thanks for this!

One thing I noticed - to get the first plate on the second row to line up correctly, you need to make the second line of the html for that plate say this

<table class="plTable" style="margin-left: 8px;">

like it does at the beginning of the first row.

Another reason why the Champion should be the Total Points Champion. Anything else is not crowning the best team in the league.
If that is the goal of the participants then do it but many people enjoy the NFL style of deciding it.

Another quick tip on editing. To add more rows, or if you are going to only have one row... you need to edit some numbers that indicate how many rows worth of edging in the background image to use on the left and right border. Find this part:

<tr>

<td rowspan="3" class="PlaqueLightBorder"> </td>

<td colspan="4">

<div class="PlaqueHead">DU Fantasy Football Wall of Champions</div>

</td>

<td rowspan="3" class="PlaqueDarkBorder"> </td>

</tr>
And change the rowspan="3" to be a number one higher than the number of small rows of plaques you have. So for 3 rows of plaques make it rowspan="4". For 4 rows make it a 5, etc.For that matter if you want to have some other number of plaques per row than 4, you probably need to change the colspan="4" also shown above to be whatever number of plaques you intend to have per row.

how can I put something like this up on CBS?
I emailed CBS to ask about this type of virtual trophy. I told them I had the code and wanted to know how or if I can add something like this to our league's website. I told them it would be a great opportunity for them to attract new leagues and maintain the ones they have, like ours. Will post their response in this thread when I get it. I think anyone in a CBS league should ask the same basic question via Help;Help Center;Ask a Question. After you hit Submit Question there will be another window. CBS will show any previously answered questions that may match your question so you'll have to click on one Final submit question button. HTH.
