Since the Titans play the Chargers this weekend, The Titans will probably wait until after the game this week to pull off the deal. Otherwise Volek could give Wade Phillips and the Chargers Def a lot of insider information about the Titans offense.
I think Volek for a draft pick is possible after this week's game. (I don't think the Titans would trade Volek to the Chargers just before the two teams play each other.)The Chargers are pretty high on Whitehurst. I don't think they'd let him go unless they get at least a pretty high second-rounder in return, and I don't think Volek equals a second-rounder.
The Chargers spent a third on Whitehurst and they have been pretty high on him. Volek isn't worth the second-rounder that the Chargers' likely value Whitehurst at. Plus, the what would the Titans want Whitehurst for when they have VY? I'm surprised they are getting rid of Volek at all.
Mort is saying (via Dan Patrick show) that deal is all but done but waiting until after this weekend's game to finalize. In the meantime, Ten will still listen to offers.This would be a great move for SD to provide insurance instead of Whitehurst.Maybe Raiders will swoop in just to spite the Chargers...I hope they don't as I'd like to see what Walter can do. Assuming that line doesnt' get him kilt.
In hindsight, the deal makes pretty good sense, but if Porter is being a whore about money, I'd be pretty hesitant to pull the trigger. That said, the Titans are lacking targets for Collins/Young and if nothing else, Porter could help them the rest of the way in exchange for their 3rd string QB.As a Jerry Porter owner, I want this to happen!
If Porter still has gas in the tank, which I think he does, I would like it happen too..!
