Waiver Wire Gems for week 4..... (1 Viewer)

Leon Washington. I'm not getting that game, but looks like Jets are getting him more involved in the offense. Probably won't get many looks in the red zone though.
Jets homer here. Watching the preseason games, I honestly thought Washington was going to be the guy before the Barlow trade. Barlow is definitely getting the goal line looks, but I suspect Washington will take over for Blaylock's role going forward. He definitely catches better than brick hands barlow. :P
Yeah, I was REALLY impressed with him this preseason, too, and picked him up in my dynasty league. He looked sharp again yesterday. Had 1 or 2 nice gains called back, too, I believe.

In a normally very competitive 12 team league, I snagged Gabriel and Michael Robinson this morning. (I say normally very competitive because, normally, when ANYTHING happens like that, they're snapped up in the first half :) ).

Gabriel really looked like a go-to guy for Brady last night and broke a number of tackle and it could help offset (my) loss of Branch. He's probably flying under the radar in most leagues after not being around the first 2 weeks, but if you saw that game you'll know what I mean. I would suggest grabbing him immediately if he's still on the wire. (And I'm a Jets fan, I HATE the Pats!).

I'll probably have to drop Michael Robinson later in the week unless the Gore injury proves more serious, but I do like that WR/RB flexibility in a pinch.

IDP - Landon Johnson...sounds like Odell is done (drunken fool )...Simmons should be taken, but seems like Landon will stay on the WLB now.

Bo Scaife. I nearly dropped TE Alex Smith for Scaife this week.Damn!
:goodposting: See TE sleeper thread from early this week. I don't know that he'll ever be consistent or the #1 TE, but he is playing better than Troupe right now.
:thumbup:I thought I was set in my big $$ league with Watson/Troupe. Now, Troupe = WW fodder for me to add some hot prospects. I also had held onto Wali Lundy for some reason, but he's also WW fodder. On my WW (we have a 16-man roster) are:MeMo, MJ-D, Jennings, Alex Smith (insane playoff schedule), Leinart, and someone dropped Witten last week. Since I need a QB (I have McNair and BJohn, and I'm gonna go with a three-deep QB rotation), I am going after all of those guys, in that order, to replace Troupe and Lundy.

Michael Bennett - sitting on the wire in 2 of my 3 leagues. I'm considering scooping him up and holding him until somebody else on the wire becomes more attractive. Who knows if an injury could befall LJ before then?

Broncos D - might be on the wire in many leagues. Though they have a bye this week, it's a good time to pick them up for the 3 games following the bye: RAVENS, RAIDERS, @ Browns.

Maurice Drew - I'd say he's the logical Fred Taylor handcuff. Actually, with the way he played in Indy, he should start getting regular touches anyway.

Musa Smith - on the wire in 2 of my 3 leagues. Is Jamal Lewis eventually missing a game or two likely? Plus, Lewis hasn't looked all that great in the early going.

only thing that bothers me is that besides being stingy, they do NOTHING fantasy-worthythough the raiders and browns could change that, i guess...

Yup. They're frustrating as hell. They have been playing great defense (only 1 TD allowed) but they've only forced 2 TOs in three games and both of those came in one game (against KC). It's similar to the Redskins from last season; a real good defense that just didn't give you anything for fantasy.

So far, Chris Henry.
Henry was drafted in my leagues.
This is the info I come to FBG for! :thumbup:Jones-Drew looked fantastic in relief of Taylor... Not sure how much time he will get though.
If you look at the play by play you will see that most of his carries came as draw plays from the shotgun formation while the D was playing cover2 or prevent. Not saying he should or should not be picked up, just adding information that the stat line does not show.

So I joined a new league this year. Things seemed to be going OK at the draft. The other coaches seemed to be at least semi-knowledgable, and they are all friends of my brother and I knew them to be good guys. However, the waiver wire additions that I made to my team this week are absolutely unbelievable. You probably will not believe it when you hear it, but my waiver wire gems for week 4 were: Keenan McCardell, Randy Moss, and Thomas Jones. Not to mention the fact that I was able to grab Braylon Edwards off of waivers just before the start of Week 3. I have no idea what is wrong with these kids, but I guess I have no problem with exploiting their stupidity.

There;'s no way you saw the whole game. Drew was very good, so much so, he put Taylor on the bench for most of the 2nd half. He also had some great catches. Broke a ton of tackles, ran very strong, very hard to bring down, and was explosive. I'm sorry, they were not all draws, and not even mostly draws, and not even mostly from the shotgun. Taylor also looked good, but Drew was far beyond Taylor. Only reason Jags were even in this game was because of Drew. I came away VERY impressive with how he ran. He lowers his shoulders, runs with power, great cuts, good vision, so far, in terms of single game performances, he looked the best of all the rookie RBs I've seen. (yes better then maroney/bush). Drew was ripping threw the Colt D. If Taylor didn't start, Drew would have had 200 yards and maybe 2 TDs. They pretty much went to him exclusively in the 2nd half. The Colts are a pretty good tackling team. Drew broke multiple tackles on almost every run. Again, I was very impressive with Drew.P.S I don't own Drew, or Taylor, or even like the Jags or Colts. Just happened to be watching that game on Sunday.

:no:See the Jones-Drew thread for a debunking of that myth - less than half his carries came out of the shotgun or were draws.

So Drew ran so well that they benched Taylor? Really? Because I saw Taylor get 21 carries, almost the exact same number he got in the first two games. Looked to me like they benched Taylor because they don't want to beat him into the ground. Here, I'll prove it to you.

Why was Toefield in there for Drew when Drew got shaken up in the second half? Was it because Taylor was already done for the day, or because the pecking order suddenly became Drew > Toefield > Taylor?

Stevens, Jerramy TE SEA??? Probably available on some WW's

Projected to return this week (4). I've been IR'ing him thus far hoping for him to cover Shockey's bye. Anyone got updated news on his recovery?

TIA

An update released last week (KFFL) said that Stevens timetable is now to return following their week 5 bye.

I like Stevens as a player, but considering the receiver glut in Seattle, I think he'll have limited fantasy value this year.

Seems like forever I've been waiting for someone to replace Lundy as my #4 RB, and I finally made the move to Maurice Drew Jones.

Sort of off topic...but your league allows you to IR a guy who is not on the NFL IR list? That just seems illogical to me...
 If they're "out" on the weekly injury report (not "IR" per NFL standards), you can IR'em till they're back in our league. I drafted him in the last round and have been carrying him on the injured list till he gets back (not counting vs. my 16 standard slots). Then will have to drop someone else. I though a lot of leagues had IR's or "injured lists". Maybe we're not talking about the same thing here. And thanks for the update Malice

I'm not so sure. Stevens was really on the same page late last season with Hasselbeck in the Red Zone - and that was with a healthy Shaun Alexander. With Alexander out, I think Hasselbeck could look to pass more and if Stevens is healthy he will likely see a lot of single coverage against linebackers and safeties given the talent the Seahawks can put on the field at WR that will command a lot of attention. If he's healthy I think he could have Top 10 potential in the second half of the season.

Yea, agreed, but he's a bye week filler (or that was the idea on draft day). 14 teams, TE req'd, so there's 28 already gone. Bo Scafie, here I come... Though, if Hass keeps tossing 5 tds a game, there should be enough to go around. Doubtful he has many more games like that, but w/ SA on the shelf, I can see him averaging 3+ tds / game over the next month ('cept @ CHI). Especailly w/ a nice D to keep giving him the ball back.

Yeah - I think a lot of leagues allow this - if a player is IR'd, he is gone for the year - what's the point of an IR spot in redrafts if it can only be used on such a player? I have only played with an IR spot a few times, but the criteria seems to be if the player is listed as "doubtful" or worse on the initial injury reports.I also don't mind folks using the IR spot (we've only allowed one spot when we allowed them) as a "shuttle" spot. But, once someone comes OFF the IR list, they are NEVER allowed back on it.

Let me say that I did not see the game, so the below info could be wrong. But the quote from CBS Sportsline is "Notable inactives for the Jaguars for Week 3 at Indianapolis include: QB Quinn Gray (emergency QB), RB LaBrandon Toefield, CB Dee Webb, RB/KR Derrick Wimbush, DE Marcellus Wiley, WR Chad Owens and DT Montavious Stanley. (Updated 09/24/2006)."

I think you may be mistaken, at least on this single point.

My mistake, it was Alvin Pearman. Wasn't paying a whole lot of attention, I just knew it wasn't Taylor.
