Waldman's Week 2 WW report - DROP Beanie and Williams? (1 Viewer)

Is it me misunderstanding or is he advocating DROPPING beanie wells and ryan williams? Curious to know how people feel about that recommendation. To me this sounds like pure craziness unless you play in an 8 team league. Am I missing something?

from the waiver wire report in week 2 content:

•Chris Wells, Cardinals: Wells had seven carries for 14 yards, splitting the workload almost evenly with Ryan Williams. Neither runner fared well against a tough Seahawks defense. Neither will likely fare will against an improved Patriots defense that limited Chris Johnson in Week 1. The Eagles are on deck in Week 3. Between the time share, Wells' injury, a below average offensive line, and a fluid quarterback situation, Wells could be a waste of space for some fantasy rosters. Don't be afraid to drop him if that's the case for you.

•Ryan Williams, Cardinals: Williams had eight carries for nine yards and Chris Wells had seven carries for 14 yards, splitting the workload almost evenly. Although Williams and Wells are far more talented than any back on the Washington Redskins' roster, those players have a great young quarterback and good offensive line. Don't go with talent over situation in this case.

What say you, Matt Waldman??

I won't speak for Waldman, but I agree with him that if you carry either of these guys, they are droppable in the near term if you have to make space on your roster for an Ogletree or Morris. Guys who can pay immediate dividends if you are lacking punch right now.

I happened to draft both Arizona RB's late and in that case, they are a definite hold. Because you can afford to wait for the situation to come clearer either thru injury or other opportunity. Somebody on the Arizona Cardinals backfield will eventually have value. But the only safe way to play this long is to carry both and hold.

What is the problem here? He's right. If you are in a 10-team league with only 5 bench spots and/or roster restrictions (4 RBs max per team) then sure, I could see dropping them. Chances are you can pick them back up later if something happens because everyone is bound by the same restrictions. If you drafted well, let's say Foster, Lynch, and Ridley are your top 3, and one of these guys was your RB4 and you only have 5 bench spots with 2 starting RBs in your lineup, then why not drop Wells or Williams for some WR or TE depth?

I guess, in really shallow leagues...I own williams in a 10 teamer, though and the only 2 serviceable backs available are alfred morris and dwyer. I could see dropping him for Morris, maybe. Since there is no way id get morris with my waiver wire pick, I would not dream of dropping him for dwyer. Dropping him for oglevee or any other of the WRs seems crazy to mee too bc there is just SO much deptjh at WR this year and very little at RB.

I wouldn't have ever drafted Beanie, so yeah I'd drop him but obviously his owners are higher on him than I am.

Williams depends on the roster, I actually dumped him before week 1 and kept Quizz + Cobb instead. I was unsuccessful trying to orchestrate a 2-for-1 trade to free up a spot for my kicker, so someone had to go. Between the o line, QB, early season schedule, and hints that the staff still prefers Beanie I didn't think he was worth my 6th RB spot behind Rice (keeper), Forte, Martin, LeShoure, and Quizz nor going down to 4 WR's - Julio (keeper), Green (keeper), Decker, Antonio Brown, and Cobb.

Kept Williams in my other leagues though.

I've got Williams in my only PPR league. Absolutely hanging onto him. His involvement in the passing game and Beanie's propensity to get injured give him RB2 upside in PPR. Outside of PPR, I don't think he's got much value - bye week filler. Maybe weak RB2 with a Wells injury.

they were the last two players listed on a pretty long RB drop list, so it's not as if he said toss 'em out for any ol free agent.
