Wandy Rodriguez (1 Viewer)

I think I'm glad I missed him, even though I targeted him everywhere. Houston could be historically bad and I think he's over compensating for an injury, screwing up his mechanics.

I've been saying this for years, Wandy is just not that good. I've never owned him in any league. He is a free agent in one league I'm in, and I'm holding the likes of Kevin Correia and Ryan Rowland-Smith in that league.

Wandy is decent for strikeouts, but at what price do you pay for this.

I know his ERA has looked solid for the past two years, but I really think it's all smoke and mirrors.

The one thing I can say is if you only start him at home, you have a fighting chance. His home/road splits are ridiculous. But with the way Houston is playing - you will need a miracle to get 10 wins out of him this year. And another thing that is often overlooked, even by home town fans thinking to build for the future with Rodriguez as their #1 pitcher if Oswalt gets dealt, is he is not a young pitcher. He is 31 years old.

If you are looking for a pitcher to get you 160-180 k's, but a real potential to be a gas can to your ratios, while barely getting more wins than a solid middle reliever, Wandy's your man. I'm looking elsewhere.

He supposedly reported some soreness after his last outing. His start on Sunday will tell a lot.

It is interesting to me b/c I am new to FB, but services, etc. were pretty bullish on he and Javier Vasquez and for the life of me, I don't get it. I waited way too long to pick pitchers and ended up with those two in my top four, but I already benched Vasquez and likely will do so with Rodriguez. What were the positives on them going into the year (honest question)?

Wandy has good stuff, but has had constant battles with health and consistency throughout his career. His periph's have indicated a progressive improvement over the last several years, his struggles are a bit more surprising to me than Vazquez. Unless it's a health issue, then I wouldn't be surprised at all. I think most still under value a healthy Wandy, but the problem is that version isn't the one we see more often.Vazquez? Silliness on the part of whoever's opinion you were reading. Looking at his history, a significant regression was in the cards. He pitches good, bordering on great, in the NL, but struggles in the AL. Put him in a home run haven like new Yankee Stadum and the problem only worsens. He isn't too good with runners on either, a problem that can be worked around in the NL but not nearly as much in the AL. He'll still get you K's, but he'll be a burden on your ratios.

It's too early to bail on him. Two short outings are still a very small sample size. They don't invalidate what he's done over the previous three years. Three bad starts would be a disturbing trend.

I think Rodriguez was overvalued this year. His heavy workload last year was a concern. I avoided him in redrafts but own him in the SB dynasty league. I'm still starting him this weekend and hoping for the best.

Pretty sure Wandy's home/away splits are very drastic over the years. Hopefully he settles down and we can at least feel confident starting him at home.

His 3.02 last year was a bit lucky, but his internal numbers the last two years support about a 3.50 ERA. His K/BB ratio is very good and his HRs aren't too painful. He's a good pitcher. That's not to say age, health, inconsistency or bad luck couldn't derail him this year, but to suggest that the last couple years were a fluke is way off base IMO.

Unless you can find someone who believes they're buying a borderline stud on the cheap you're stuck with him for now. I'd move him the first reasonable offer you get.

He's just not that good.

Wandy has been a surprise to the organization. He was not highly regarded as a prospect and late developing. Does not have wow stuff, so you might be looking at a guy who put it together for a couple of years, but may not have the raw talent to sustain that level of production.

I'm almost certain he's hiding an injury. A trip to the DL is the best thing for him right now; similar to Scott Baker's start last year.

Quality start today vs. the Cubs although he's on the hook for the loss. He only had 3 Ks but his one walk was intentional. His fastball was clocked at 90-91 mph which seems OK for him. His heater has never been overpowering. He has to keep his location down to be successful.

He did a solid job of keeping his team in the game. They actually scored single runs 8th, 9th, and 10th to take the lead so he is off the hook for the loss.

struggling pitcher on a bad team? yeah, i could see plenty of reasons not to roster him. especially in a league with no bench.

Dear Wandy Rodriguez, I truly wish that you'd turn back into a major league pitcher rather than the lump of *($ that you currently are.
