wannabee Strategy Thread (3 Viewers)

Hey Jeff,

Excited it's FOOTBALL time yet again!!!! I won and so did my SAINTS last year. I drafted 12th last night in a 12-team league.

How do you think I did?

QB(1)

Romo

Kolb

RB(2)

LeSean McCoy

Jahavid Best

Reggie Bush

WR(3)

Randy Moss

Hakeem Nicks

Dez Bryant

Santonio Holmes

TE(1)

J Finley

G Olsen

K(1)

Ryan Succop

J Reed

DEF(1)

Bears

Pats

We can drop 1 TE, K, DEF for 1 extra QB, RB & WR

Here are my options what would you do.....sit pat or pull the trigger......

I was thinking about grabbing Bernard Berrian because of the whole Rice/Harvin drama someone has to catch the ball for Farve

At RB Sproles, LT and Hightower sit......leaning towards Sproles or LT...who do you like?

I was planning on dropping Jeff Reed for Berrian

If I grab up another RB I think I should hang on to noth my TE's so which Defense would you drop?

Or should I sit pat on my RB's for now?

THANKS again for all the upcoming advice!!!!!
Get hightower and a WR. Which WRs are available?

Hey Jeff, It's been a year since I spoke to you. I hope your doing very well.I just finished drafting in this redraft league (10 teams) I need your opinion on this team. WR is where I am weakest I'm sure. Thanks! These players listed in order drafted in 16 team league picking 9th. 1QB 2RB, 2WR, 1RB/WR, TE, K Def.TurnerWilliamsRomoMatthewsSims-walker....mistake here this spotBestNicksCelekOwensWinslowFloydMcnabbBuckhalter49ersHartleyMaroney Crayton,Royal,Hester, James Jones,Mcluster,Shilens a few guys on Wire Thanks
I think you WRs are decent. But I might look to dump Maroney for Royal or Hester

Hi Jeff,Just finished my 10 team .5 per reception league draft. All Td's including passing are 6 pts. 1 pt per 10 rushing/receiving. 1 pt. per 20 yds. passing. I know my weakness is RB (yes I am aware M. Bush broke his thumb, stashing him hoping he is alright). Question is would you look to try to make a trade now ie: Matt Ryan and a RB for a upgrade at RB for a team with needs at QB, or would you just sit tight and wait? Here is my team.QB: D. Brees, M. RyanRB: P. Thomas, J. Best, M. Forte, M. Barber, M. BushWR: R. Moss, H. Nicks, M. Wallace, D. MasonTE: B. CelekDEF: Niners, Patriots (Defenses are awarded alot of pts. in this league)K: N. RackersIDP: J. VilmaAlso there are still some sleepers on waivers too. Might you try some of these players (B. Scott, K. Huggins, J. Ringer, C. Taylor, D. Brown, Fred Jackson, L. Washington) All these guys are rated below my current backs according to current projections, but maybe more upside> Thanks for any help.
I think I would try the Ryan/RB like Forte for a RB like Benson/Grant/Charles then pick up Fred Jackson. This would give you two better RBs. Fjax is lower just because he will miss a couple of games. You would be in good shape, imo, if you can pull it off. There are plenty of backup QBs available in most 10 teamers so I would not sweat it.

Are you saying you would drop Bush for Jackson? I thought Bush had a better chance than Jackson, especially with the emergence of C.J. Spiller. None of the backs you mentioned look like good trade possibilities at this point as the teams are set at QB. Here are teams with weak QB situations. Any ideas?QB:C. Palmer, A. Smith, V. YoungRB: R. Get hightower and a WR. Which WRs are available?
----------------------------------------------------------------I am going to try and get Bernard Berrien since by default he is the #1 target for Farve.

The other guys on the WW right now are:

-Mike Thomas (JAGS)

-Laurent Robinson (RAMS)

That is why I went with Berrien, if there is a name you think I should look for let me know!

So, you like Hightower with Beanie in place over Sproles and LT?

There are some other names out there too many to list but way too early to ponder.

I'm just wondering if you think I should burn my second Defense for an additional RB now?

With the Bears and Pats I am still uncertain as to which will be the better D.

I don't want to drop one of my 2 TE's, I love Finley and Olsen with Martz may be sweet as well!

So, right now I am on the WW list with Bernard Berrien currently the Vikes #1 wideout -- dropping Jeff Reed.

If you see my WR's, you'll see that my last pick was Santonio Holmes who I won't have until week 5 so my immediate need was an additional option at WR.

So, what do you think of my draft results?

THANKS!

Hey Jeff,

Man I miss football, hopefully you had a great off-season. I had my draft last night, 12 team PPR re-draft league. Our scoring is as follows:

All TD's are worth 6 pts

1 pt per 10 rushing/receiving yds

1 pt per 20 passing yds

1 pt per 30 return yds

1 pt per reception

-2 pts for fumbles and int.s

Defenses are scored from 10 pts for a shutout to -4 pts for giving up 35+ pts.

They also get 1 pt per sack, 2 pts for fumble recoveries, int.s, safeties, blocked kicks

They get 6 pts for TD's but no points for return yards or return TD's.

My team is as follows:

QB - Romo (2.12), Vince Young (12.12)

RB - Chris Johnson (1.01), CJ Spiller (5.01), Reggie Bush (7.01), Darren Sproles (11.01)

WR - Calvin Johnson (3.01), Crabtree (6.12), Dez Bryant (8.12), Jabar Gaffney (10.12)

TE - Vernon Davis (4.12), Zach Miller (9.01)

K - Akers (13.01)

DEF - Cincy (14.12)

I think I have a good team but I always seem to think that only to have my team collapse in the playoffs. I tried to follow Jeff Pasquino's RB #2 by committee (PPR) article. I got Spiller in the 5th, and went with Bush in the 7th. I'm also hoping to see which WR #2 I want to keep, Dez Bryant or Crabtree. I'd like to keep both and dump Gaffney if needed within the first three weeks for the waiver flavor of the week.

Should I go with Gaffney the first couple of weeks as my WR#2 to see if Crabtree is just a one year wonder?

Also, should I dump Sproles for McCluster? Yahoo has his position set at RB/WR so I can put him in either position on my roster, which can be handy in a pinch during bye weeks/injuries. If you think his production will match Sproles, I'll probably make the move.

My Defense is the weakest link and I'd like to not dump Zach Miller until after Davis' bye week (wk 9). The following is what's out there now. Is there one decidedly better than Cincy?

San Diego

Indy

Tennessee

Arizona

New England

Carolina

Atlanta

Tampa Bay

I appreciate your insight.

Thanks,

-Eric

Real quick one here Jeff, keepers are due at 10pm tonight so I hope you check in soon.

14 team, 3 player PPR keeper league

High performance PPR scoring (bonuses for completion percentage, carries, YPC etc...)

Start QB / 2RB / 2WR / TE

Already keeping Andre Johnson and Adrian Peterson.

I'm torn on my third keeper between Steve Smith (NY) and Adian Foster, everyone's favorite flavor of the month.

RBs tend to be kept and go early. I expect about 20 RBs to be kept.

Drafting at the turn (1.14, 2.01, 3.14, 4.01 etc...) and missing my 5th due to an earlier trade.

Thanks! :P

Hey Jeff, just finished my 12 team H2H auction keeper draft

The draft went pretty bad, first the software didn't allow the right number of reserves so i was left with some money and couldn't handcuff players like I wanted to because I met the max reserves. Also, most of the top RB's were kept and everyone had the same idea of going big on the top WR's. If I would have known that the reserves spots were wrong I would have bid more on the elite WR's(Moss went for like $67). Unfortunately I kept S. Rice over Moss at $45 then Rice had surgery I ended up spending overpaying for Wr2's and 3's later on.

Start 1 QB, 2 RB, 4 WR/TE, 1 K, 1 DEF

6 pts all TD's including passing

What do you think of my team?

QB- Rodgers $3(Keeper), Alex Smith $7

RB- Chris Johnson $10(Rookie Keeper), A. Bradshaw $16, Portis $11, Forsett $13, C. Williams $11

WR/TE- Calvin Johnson $20(Keeper), Chad Ochocinco$26(overpaid), Santana Moss $13, S. Rice $3(out half season), J. Knox $10, L. Robinson $1

K- Matt Bryant

DEF- Baltimore

Rookie taxi squad- J. Ringer, Mike Williams TB, EArly Doucet ARi, Malcolm Kelly

I was trying to back up portis and forsett but like i said the software said i reached the max reserves(which I didn't). I think I can get a descent RB2 out of those 4 i drafted. I don't like my WR/TE and I might try to get someone like zach miller off of waivers. I'm hoping some of my WR's in my taxi squad do alright. What area should I improve on? thanks

I am not a Berrian fan at all. Neither with sproles. Hightower vs LT is very close and you could go either way. I like L Robinson a lot to stash. He is very productive, yet injury-prone. He will surprise many.

Hey Eric, even though Romo's bye is week four, VY might be the easiest to drop. He and Sproles are the only two I would consider. I like your WRs and would not drop any. Cincy has played great defense this preseason. The other one to watch is TB starting against Cleve, Car (with Moore not playing well), and Pitt (without ben) the first three weeks.

I would look to add depth at WR. Dont sweat Rice since he is a keeper and young. I like Knox and L Robinson for depth. Can you swap out Kelly for another WR/TE? He looks to be toast in Wash. I love Mike Williams and think Ringer is better than most realize. You have a good team.

12 team ppr keeper league

i'm stacked at rb's with rice, stewart, mendenhall, jahvid, and donald brown

need wrs badly

been offered vjax and mccluster for jahvid..

I really like jahvid but I really need wrs and jackson will help me in the future if not this year.

thoughts?

Hi Jeff. Thoughts on my team? I had the 6th pick.

8 team, redraft, PPR, pass TD = 4, all others = 6, start QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, Flex (RB/WR), TE, K, DL, LB, DB

QB: Cutler, Favre, Stafford

RB: SJax, D Williams, R Grant, F Jones, M Barber, A Bradshaw, C Portis, Hardesty

WR: A Johnson, D Bowe, J Knox, R Meacham

TE: Gates

K: ---

DL: M Williams

LB: P Willis

DB: C Woodson

I know I need QB help. I'd like to get another top WR (R Moss, M Austin, etc.). Regarding kicker, I'm just waiting to see how all the rosters/preseason play out before dropping someone (most likely Hardesty or Favre).

I've been offered G Jennings and B Ruud for D Bowe and P Willis. I like the upgrade at WR, but don't like the hit I take at LB. Thoughts on that?

Thanks

Hi Jeff

I currently have WR D. Thomas from Wash. on my bench. Nothing much available on the waiver except Mike Thomas (Jax), D. Amendola (Rams) and V.Cruz (NYG).

Would you dropD. Thomas for any one of these 3 players?

Thanks.

Thanks Jeff, I am going to try to get Zach Miller TE Oak and Huggins RB TB. I was going to get both but when the software messed up and said we are at the limit for reserves I couldn't. Anyways how much of my 100 FAAB dollars should I spend on each. With Ward being cut will Huggins price go up. I am about $35 under the cap so I have lots of room to play with. I am also going to try to get Mike Williams SEA. Thanks

that is a great team with QB as only question. you did well at RB/WR, getting studs and depth

on the trade, keep WillisI would look for WR depth on the waiver wire.If Favre comes back strong, you are in decent shape at QB. If a team has two you like, you might try a 2-1 deal .... another option would be to try to move Favre or Stafford for Roethlisberger

no, even though Mike Thomas is intriguing ... but Wash has so little at WR

Thanks
I would spend for for Huggins than Miller or Williams. He has the better shot to be a solid starter

I have the 1st pick in a one player keeper. Should I take MJD or Gore (who I own in another league)? This is a standard scoring league for RB's, and my keeper is Ray Rice.

TIA

Hi Jeff

3 man keeper league. I have ADP, SJackson and Schaub. I have the #1 pick tonight and am taking RMathews. I have been offered Wayne or Fitgerald for either Jackson or Mathews. What do you think?

Start 1qb, 2rb, 2wr, 1te, 1 def

All tds = 6, 1pt for 10rush/rec or 20 yds pass

Thanks in advance

sorry it took me so long to get back to you but there is no way i do that deal. Keep your RBs in the non-ppr league

Hello again Jeff. Final draft coming up.

I drew the 4th spot in a 12 team, NON-PPR, 4 pt passing TDs, 1 pt 25 passing, otherwise standard scoring, and we start 1QB, 2RB, 2WR, 1 RB/WR flex, 1TE, 1Def, 1PK.

1. If the first 3 are typical CJ, ADP, MJD, in your mind is Rice a lock at 4, or does Gore enter into consideration?

2. If 2 of the first 3 owners pass on ADP (Hammy tweak in early August and Favre uncertainty), and MJD (knee concerns), now what at 1.04? Do ya just suck it up and take ADP or MJD betting that they’ll pay off? Would you love that situation, or dread it?

3. QBs. They just kill me! Assuming I take a WR at 2.09, if Manning or Romo are there at 3.04, along with RBs Best, Spiller, McCoy, and WRs Jennings, Colston, and Smith (Car), what do you think? I’ve typically not taken a QB until the 5th or later, but one of those two studs would sure make filling out the roster easier each week!

Thanks Jeff.

Hi JeffI currently have WR D. Thomas from Wash. on my bench. Nothing much available on the waiver except Mike Thomas (Jax), D. Amendola (Rams) and V.Cruz (NYG).Would you dropD. Thomas for any one of these 3 players? Thanks.
no, even though Mike Thomas is intriguing ... but Wash has so little at WR
Well both MThomas and Amendola have been picked up but the guy who picked them up dropped Kevin Walter (Hou) and Chaz Schillins (Oak).Would you drop D. Thomas for either of these guys?Thanks...

MJD unless you are worried about his knee .... Gore is completely fine if worried about MJD
Well someone kept MJD and Rodgers so it was Gore by default.  How did I do?  I had 5 extra picks (1.01, 3.02, 3.06, 4.07 and 4.08) and drafted out of the 12th spot.  We start QB/2 RB/2 WR/Flex/TE/K/DEF, and QBs get 6 pts. Keeper - Rice1.01 - Gore1.12 - Calvin Johnson2.01 - Mendenhall3.02 - Steve Smith (NYG).  The guy that I traded with "forgot" that we traded during the draft.  He owed me this pick but wound up picking Steve Smith.  I may not get this one.  He took Witten in the next round and I'm trying to get him instead.3.06 - Boldin3.12 - Crabtree4.01 - Schaub (5 QB's were kept and Romo went in the 1st)4.07 - Bowe4.08 - Sims-Walker5.12 - Best6.01 - Bradshaw7.12 - Zack Miller8.01 - Cutler9.12 - Kaeding10.01 - 49ers12.01 - Keller TIA

Jeff,

What's your recommendation on this list of tight ends? I got Carlson late, but these are available:

Heap

Davis

Scheffler

Boss

Cook...like looks of him, but not sure if he's starting.

OR anybody else you think may be on wire in a 16 team standard scoring league.

Thanks as always!

I am in a 10 team .5 per reception league. All Td's including passing are 6 pts. 1 pt per 10 rushing/receiving. 1 pt. per 20 yds. passing. Defenses score substantial pts., this is why I have two (niners are slotted to score 14 pts.for my first game which is more than anyone except Brees). My question is given Bush's injury and what I have read is the potential for B. Celek to struggle due to the recent problems with the Eagles passing game, would you drop M. Bush for H. Miller who is on waivers? My team is below.

QB: Brees, M. Ryan

RB: P. Thomas, J. Best, M. Forte, M. Barber, M. Bush

WR: R. Moss, H. Nicks, M. Wallace, D. Mason

TE: B. Celek

DEF: Niners, Patriots

K: doesn’t matter

IDP: D.J. Williams

I would take Rice very narrowly over Rice. All four rbs after CJohnson are very close. Choose who you like most. But, I must confess that MJD scares me some with the knee issue.I would take QB in 2nd in non--PPR and RB in 3rd. There will be WR options in the 4th and later.

you did a great jon. You are very strong at RB/QB and should be just fine at WR/TE. That is one stacked team

Been racking my brain over this one......help is appreciated.

Rice/Willis/Colston FOR Matthews/AJ/Crabtree

MY current offer to him is Rice/Willis/Smith NYG/Eli for Matthews/AJ/Henne

What would you think is fair?

Just gotta check...there was a "typo" in your reply...Rice narrowly over Gore? Makes sense...they're both really solid. Thx Jeff.

Jeff, without doing it on purpose I handcuffed both my starting running backs in my two main leagues. I planned on handcuffing one but value presented its self and I did it with out thinking about it. I was wondering if this makes my team weaker by not having other options or potential break out candidates? Both Leagues are 12 man 1 point PPR leagues start 1qb, 2rb, 3wr, 1te, 1def/k

Team 1 my 200 point auction league I planned on purchasing two top ten WR, a top TE and looking for value in the RB department. Purchased P. Thomas for 24 and B. Wells for 24 also. Later got R. Bush for 12 this was going to be my only handcuff but T. Hightower i got for 2 later in the draft.

J. Cutler, C. Henne, D. Garrard

P. Thomas, B. Wells, A. Bradshaw, R. Bush, T. Hightower

R. White, G. Jennings, T. Owens, S. Holmes, E. Royal, L. Moore, S. Stroughter

J. Witten

Ny Giants Def/Kicker

Team 2 my Keeper League I Kept R. Rice and C. Benson as my main RB's. I planned on getting mcgahee late if available and I did but with my second to last pick of the draft I got B. Scott it was slim picking by this point and he seemed to have value.

P. Rivers, M. Ryan

R. Rice, C. Benson, A. Bradshaw, W. Mcgahee, B. Scott

M. Austin, G. Jennings, M. Crabstree, D. Mason, L. Robinson, Jacoby Jones, C. Chambers

T. Gonzalez, A. Fasano

SD Charger Def/Kicker

If anything I figure I can use this year as a unplanned experimental year and determine if handcuffing works or not for future years. I did pick up bradshaw in both leagues so that may help just wondering if i left my self thin at RB?

Hey Jeff

I am in a ppr league.

Would you trade my back up QB McNabb (who backs up Schaub) and either my WR Walters or Washington for his back up QB Smith (SanFran) and either his WR Gaffney (Den) or Mike Williams (TB) as I am a bit thin at WR?

My current starting WR's are: Holmes, Nicks, Breaston and my bench WR's are McCluster, Washington and Walters.

Thanks....

I am one who only handcuffs if the player is talented and could be a starter if the events unfolded. I like Bush, hightower and Scott a lot. In fact, Bush and Hightower are two PPR RBs I love this year due to their values. On Scott, he has looked explosive in preseason. I would not sweat these three at all.

I would do that easily. Smith and either WR is a good move for you. If Schaub goes down, McNabb is not a huge upgrade over Smith. Also, you might find a better option midseason on the waiver wire.

I think you are in ok shape. I would only target guys who can help you now and later. I would only move Evans &/or Driver for Michael Bush type. Bush is hurt for a few weeks but you have McFadden so all is well. Others to consider (even if price is different): Leon Washington, Hightower, etc. If you want to go cheaper, look at Tomlinson, Brandon Jackson, etc. I would also look to stash Ivory &/or Mewelde Moore.I would not do the Caddy deal. Collie is a good young PPR WR

Team in signature. I have the 6th waiver position and somebody just dropped Lee Evans. Would I be crazy to waste it on him?

Or should I pick up Leon Washington?

Thoughts on who I should drop?

We start 2 RB, 3 WR/TE, and 2 flex positions

Hi Jeff

My draft is on Monday and our scoring is a little different than typical PPR leagues, so can I ask how you would approach it?

PPR, 12 teams, 18 rounds, start 1QB, 2RB, 3WR, 1 flex(QB,RB, WR, or TE) 1PK, 1DEF/ST, non-keeper league but here are a few differences that I noticed from typical scoring...

1) QB's - passing TD = 3pts, but there is a 3pt bonus for any passing TD of 40+ yards.

2) RB's/WR's/TE's = any rushing or receiving TD of 40+ yards is a 3pt bonus on top of the 6 pts for a TD, so a 50 yard rushing TD gets 14 pts and +1 if its a reception, see what I mean?

Here are my questions...

1) Any tips for this drafting point system? Meaning any players that you would value more?

2) I'm drafting #2 and plan to start with AP, but was thinking about going RB, WR, WR, RB, QB/TE for the first 5 rounds, is this a good idea to have a strategy like that, or not?

Thanks for your advice.

Scott aka Pyro boy
