wannabee Strategy Thread (3 Viewers)

Hi again Jeff - If you’re still around, I wanted to jot down my ideas for WW pickups this week.

TE – pretty down on Keller. Pettigrew, Olsen, Scaife, Graham, Boss, Dreesen, and Hoomanawanaui are on our WW.

The best wk 12 matchups based on ppg to TEs over last 5 games are

• Dreesen (vs. Tenn, 3rd at 18 ppg) – interesting as long as Daniels is out, and wk 13 at Phil (7th at 14 ppg) is tentatively a good matchup for a TE too. Only 1, 8, 3, and 4 targets in last 4 games though.

• Scaife (vs. Hou, 4th at 17 ppg to TEs) – about 6 targets/game (5, 2, 6, 6) over last 5 wks

• Olsen (vs. Phil, 7th at 14 ppg to TEs) – about 6 targets/game (4, 8, 5, 6) over last 5 wks

• Graham (vs. Dal, 10th at 13 ppg to TEs) – about 6 targets/game (4, 0, 4, 8) over last 5 wks. That 8 targets on Sunday looks like he might be becoming a favorite of Brees?

• Pettigrew seems like a stud though, and if Scheffler is out, his matchup vs. New England (11th at 12 ppg) is tempting. 4, 5, 8, 9 for recent targets.

• Boss (vs. Jax, 13th at 12 ppg) – a pretty good matchup, but he doesn’t get many targets (1, 2, 7, 4 in last 4 games)…but WRs are hurting for NYG

• Hoomanawanaui (at Den, 16th at 10 ppg) – fairly low targets (5, 3, 4, 6) in comparison to some of the others

I think these ppg numbers must be for PPR, so would be less in non-PPR, but probably about the same relative values…

Seems like a lot of data, so I’m inclined to go with Pettigrew based on those last two games of 8 and 9 targets, and the 7 and 5 points he got those last two weeks. Not a lot of points, but better than what Keller has been putting up. My second choice probably ought to be Dreesen, with Daniels still out. And Graham is getting a lot of love from Cecil and Sigmund on The Audible...

Your thoughts? Thanks!

12-team NON-PPR redraft league. Start 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 WR/RB Flex, 1 TE, 1 K, 1 DEF. 16 player roster. Pass TDs = 4 pts, all others 6. 1 for 10 yards rushing or receiving, 25 yards passing.

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for your help last week. I have one quick question before the family shows up and we start the eating orgy. Need to play one of these players in performance scoring, non PPR league.

VJax @ Indy

MAustin vs NO

Tampa Mike W @ Balt

Blount @ Balt

Thanks again, and have a great holiday.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING JEFF!!!

You told me to drop Randy Moss for Blair White BUT my problem is I have Pierre Garcon

Do you like Garcon better than White or vice-versa? Drop Moss for White

I can drop Garcon for White?

Then who would I drop Randy Moss for:

--James Jones (GB)

--Robert Meachem

Or stand pat again for now and just don't play him?

Ok WDIS?

I have a trade offer on the table from an owner that is probably not going to make the playoffs, although he could knock me out if he wins 2 and I lose 2. I am currently on the fringe of the playoffs (though I am 2nd in points). This is an 10 team NON-PPR IDP Dynasty League with standard scoring. Here is my roster (minus IDPers) below:QB- Peyton, RyanRB- ADP, Turner, Charles, Torain, Greene, Lynch, Gerhart, ChoiceWR- CJ, Smith South, Smith North, Malcom Floyd, Ochocinco, Britt, Branch, Collie, MSWThe offer on the table is the following:I give up Turner and 2 of the WR (my choice- probably Branch and MSW) I receive: Terrell Owens and his first round pick in 2011 (should be #4) and his first round pick in 2012 (Should be Top 5)I'm nervous about giving up Turner and relying on Haley to let Charles to be my RB2 during a playoff run, but this is the last time I will ever get anything for Turner. I would hope the upgrade to TO as my WR2 (this year) would negate what I would lose by giving up Turner. What do you think?
I like the deal and give floyd/branch with vjax back

i would pick up MoMo for this week only. He will get carries and receptions. Forsett is not an every-week starter.I would avoid Mike Williams, SEA with the injury. I love Austin and Santana this week. So, we are left with TO,, MW, or Crabtree for WR3. This is a close one and I would lean toward Crabtree but could make a case for any of the three. TO is a gamble.

Jeff, standard scoring 2rb 2wr 1 flex

I need five out of these:

Mccoy,

Harrison

Maybe K williams or Ivory

Calvin,

Hi Jeff,

I wanted to get your opinion on which WR I should go with in a ppr league.

Welker @ Det

V. Jackson @ Ind

Right now I'm leaning toward Welker but I can see a case for starting Vjax.

I'm not sure if this makes a difference but my opponent this week has Brady.

What do you think?

Hey Jeff. I am looking for line up help. non ppr we start 2rb 2wr and 1flex

my rbs are MJD Bradshaw Ivory Wells Addai

my wrs are Austin VJax SMoss MThomas

So MJD and VJax are locks. I am thinking if Bush is out Ivory is a play, maybe a play even with Bush.

So that leave Bradshaw Austin Moss and Thomas( I dont think I trust Wells yet). I need 2 of these guys

Thanks

Happy Thanksgiving

Tamme v SD or Pettigrew v NE?

NE isn't very good against the TE iirc, and Pettigrew is great with Shaun Hill. Tough to sit Tamme though

Hi jeff - Jacobs named starter in NY over my Bradshaw, so even though TB plays tough Baltimore run D, I'm inclined to go with Blount instead of Bradshaw. Agree? (non-ppr)

Yikes Jeff...

I guess Bradshaw has to be taken off my must-start list. I've gotta start two of these three...

Bradshaw vs Jax

VJax @ Indy

Austin vs NO

I had been planning on starting VJax over Austin (along with Bradshaw), but now I'm wondering if I should play both WRs and bench Bradshaw...

Hey Jeff need some help for a must win game

Standard scoring, 6 pts all TD's including passing

QB- Rodgers

RB- Need to pick 2. Chris Johnson for sure. I am debating now between Bradshaw and Forsett.

WR/TE- Pick 4. Going with Calvin Johnson and Santana Moss for sure. Debating between Sidney Rice, Ochocinco, and Knox. I think Ochocinco is the odd man out.

Thanks

Happy Thanksgiving Jeff  If you're too busy enjoying time with your family that's ccol. But if you're crazy enough to check this thread here's my dilemma at flex I am picking between TO and McFadden

All TDs are 6 points.

RB and WR get a 1 point bonus for each 25 rushing, starting with 50 yards. (eg 112 yards means a 3 point total bonus)

RB and WR get a 1 point bonus for every 25 yards receiving starting at 50 yards

WR only get a 1 point bonus for each catch starting with the 6th. (eg 9 receptions means a 4 point total bonus).

So whatcha think? Stick with TO or roll with DMC?

Thx

Happy Turkey Day , Jeff. I hope your day was enjoyable.

Right now, I have BJax vs ATL in the 2nd RB slot, but am second guessing myself since deciding against starting Maurice Morris. [uGH!]

Should I go with Lynch at home against KC or maybe with Gerhart instead or stick with Jackson?

1 pt per 10 yds

10 pts per TD

Vick, Michael QB PHI @CHI

Jackson, Brandon RB GB @ATL

Peterson, Adrian RB MIN @WAS

Jackson, DeSean WR PHI @CHI

Wallace, Mike WR PIT @BUF

Witten, Jason TE DAL NO

Folk, Nick K NYJ CIN

Giants DST JAC

Ryan, Matt QB ATL GB

Gerhart, Toby RB MIN @WAS

I would avoid Lynch and Gerhart .. neither have done much this season

12 TEAM dynasty, 60 player rosters, non IDP, PPR, 6 per tds. 10 rush/rec and 25 passing equals a point.

Start QB, 2RB, 3WR, 1 FLEX, K, DST

I'd get Stafford, Colston and a 1st ( He's fighting for a playoff spot so it could be 5th-12th)

Id give up Big Ben, Veron Davis.

My Qbs are Rivers and Sanchez and my TE's are Winslow and Finely

My WR's are Fitzgerald, Dez, Jennings, Harvin, Andre Johnson, Benn, Rice, Amendola etc.

Well I was able to get Dez Bryant for Calvin Johnson. The question now becomes how long to sign my keepers for. Ideally I should try to stagger the contracts. My keepers should be:

Tony Romo likely $10 next season

Lesean McCoy $15-20 estimate next year

Jonathan Stewart $5-8 estimate

CJ Spiller $1 most likely

Mark Ingram, a rookie so $2 then will increase to sportsline values his sophomore year when I can sign him to a LT deal

Dez Bryant $5-10 estimate

Michael Crabtree $2-3 estimate

Pats D for 3 years would be $5 each year.

Our total cap is $120. My plan is to sign Romo to a 3-5 year deal as he would then cost $13-15 per year. I would then also sign Dez Bryant to a long term deal 5-10 years where he would be about $20 per year (if he was $10 at 10 years) and Crabtree to a similar deal of 5-10 years. At ten years Crab would be $17 annually. Then my RBs at 3 years each.

So that would mean I've got my QB locked up for 5 years. My WRs locked up for 10 years and RBs locked up for 3 years. That would give me $30 to go after another stud RB in the draft every year.

Does this strategy make sense? Another consideration is to cut McCoy or Stewart because I'm going to have to make room for Mark Ingram and Trent Richardson. With that in mind maybe I should not sign McCoy because that would free up both $15-20 each year for the next 3 years allowing me to sign Ingram and Richardson to long-term deals and also aim for a #1 RB in the auction every year. Alternatively I could cut bait with Jonathan Stewart thought he'll be cheaper to sign than McCoy and could be the Carolina starter next season.

Thoughts? Thanks!

Thank you! Who in your mind, are the studs in a 0.5 PPR league? I was thinking that Calvin would qualify and that I should lock him into a 3-5 year deal. Also I'm going to lock up one of my young QBs (or both and trade one) to 3-5 year deals. RBs I'm more hesitant to lock into long term contracts because of the injury risk. It's going to be hard to pry away Adrian Peterson or a top 5 RB from someone, although with a $50 keeper cap next year, there should be 1-2 of these backs available. I might be able to get Frank Gore. I would stay away from the top 4-6 RBs this yr, just due to price

Or I should I try to get Dez Bryant and something for Calvin Johnson? I could then lock Bryant and Crabtree up to long term deals and be set at WR. Plus Bryant should be cheaper than Calvin. Then I could lock up Ryan or Romo at QB and be set there. This could then free me up to spend big money to acquire a stud RB or 2. this was more of what I was thinking. Once you get a young guy starting cheap, he will be cheap for a while.

Lastly, what do you think of Lesean McCoy and should I sign him to a long term deal? Others I like better as a RB1 ... ok for a cheaper RB2

I would invest in studs, and play the cheap route on depth. The studs will be cheap in comparison in the early years, as the $s start to rise. Also, the Qbs will good value, I would trade away players like Calvin Johnson for equal performing lesser names. Calvin & Murphy are the two names I would look at moving.

I like your plan with McCoy and Stewart. You should be able to wait and see what the role of each will be before extending the contracts. The issue with Stewart will be whether the Panthers re-sign DeAngelo.

I forgot to mention that Maurice Morris is on the WW...do you like him better than Ivory going forward?

It seems that Detroit's RB injuries are on the incline while the Saints are getting back to normal......plus Morris caught a lot of balls as well.....

What about Brandon Jacobs?

So Hagan for Ivory still or Morris?

****Randy Moss-----Keep him in case the new QB Rusty can find him?

****Drop him for Robert Meachem who has become more and more consistent a target of Brees?

****Instead of dropping Hagan for Ivory or Morris----grab Robert Meachem?

THANKS Jeff!

Hey Jeff. I am carrying the Bears and Ravens D. I was thinking of starting Ravens this week. 49ers are also on waivers. Who do you like for yards against, DST scores, but no points against for scoring.

Secondly, I have MJD, I was thinking of grabbing Jennings but I would have to drop a D or Mike Thomas or Beanie Wells or Shaun Hill. If I drop a D, I think I drop the Ravens and roll with the Bears. Would you grab Jennings? Who would you drop? My roster below. non ppr redraft

Sanchez Freeman Hill

MJD Bradshaw Addai Wells Ivory

Austin VJax SMoss MThomas

Heap Graham

Viniteri

Bears Ravens

I would only carry one defense for this week. Pick up Jennings and worry about picking up a second defense next week.

Hi Jeff,

Im in a ten team ppr keeper league -- start 1 qb, 2rb, 2wr, 1 te and 1 flex - option to start as few as 1 rb and as many as 4 wr - - current roster is

Roethlisberger/Schaub

Petersen/Fred Jackson/Thomas Jones

Roddy White/Colston/Santana Moss/Gaffney/Breaston/Mike Thomas

Vernon Davis/Pettigrew

I have best record in league and 2nd most points scored, but team i have to get through to make championship is loaded and just added b Lloyd - feel like i have to make a move - - also, based on our keeper rules, i wont be able to keep petersen next season

Thinking of trading Petersen for Jamaal Charles and Bowe

Appreciate any thoughts....thanks

Hi Jeff,Im in a ten team ppr keeper league -- start 1 qb, 2rb, 2wr, 1 te and 1 flex - option to start as few as 1 rb and as many as 4 wr - - current roster is Roethlisberger/SchaubPetersen/Fred Jackson/Thomas JonesRoddy White/Colston/Santana Moss/Gaffney/Breaston/Mike ThomasVernon Davis/PettigrewI have best record in league and 2nd most points scored, but team i have to get through to make championship is loaded and just added b Lloyd - feel like i have to make a move - - also, based on our keeper rules, i wont be able to keep petersen next seasonThinking of trading Petersen for Jamaal Charles and BoweAppreciate any thoughts....thanks
I would do that in a heartbeat the way kc offense is playing

Jeff, Redraft.....team in sig. Standard scoring

Would you drop K Williams for Stewart after this week? Things I'm hearing in Washington rb rotation. Hart and choice are available to.

Dreesen another good call.....but I need to decide about Hernandez and Grownkoski or maybe just keep Drees heading toward playoffs.

Thanks

One RB spot and one flex spot this week Jeff

0.5 ppr, 1/10 rush, 1/15 rec

Mike Williams Tampa

LeGarrette Blount

Toby Gerhart (only if I can pick him up though)

Maurice Morris

Javon Ringer (did Cj4.24 get hurt or was he really THAT underused?)

Santana Moss

Also, I am probably going with CLE @Miami, but would you play Tampa v ATL or Zona hosting St Louis? I think ARZ could be a possibility, because our points are basically just TO, sacks, TDs, with a big bonus for holding an opponent under 7 points.

stewart easily. he can play. At TE, Hernandez only sees snaps against man to man defenses, not zones. Might be best to avoid and go with dreessen for now.

At RB, Morris plays Chicago which is a tough matchup. So is Atlanta for Blount. Peterson and Chris Johnson are expected to be healthy enough to play. Johnson was just THAT underused. So, the matchup is for the two tough RBs. I think I would play Mike Williams with the thought that TB will be playing from behind. For same reason, I would go with Morris if Best is out ... Blount if not. At defense, I think I would go with cleve of these choices. I also like Indy at home.
