**Washington at Atlanta** (-1.5, 42.5) 1:00 (1 Viewer)

If I was Atlanta I'd run a lot on Washington. It's easy enough to do. Of course, it's easy to pass on Washington, too. They lost to the terrible previously-winless Bears last week 40-20. This game should be entertaining. Lots of scoring and mistakes.

Atlanta sports fans can now focus on The Falcons with The Braves pulling their annual Houdini act.
Washington team is up then down.
This week,I'll say down...

Bears destroyed Washington’s man defense last week and so far Atlanta is picking apart a zone.

And, of course, Washington’s first drive was killed by a sack.

Ridder has Van Jefferson and Bijan open for big plays and misses them. Then the Falcons fail on a 4th and 3 when Ridder throws before Bijan is ready.

Receivers have been open all half. I know Atlanta is a running team, but I think they are making a mistake by not opening it up more. That first drive was easy completions. Washington is playing the run well.

Passing continues to be where they are having success. Should’ve passed for the conversion, even from the one.

I just started watching at halftime. What's up w Dotson? 0 catches. Looks like 1 drop. I was low on this guy when they drafted him but he looked decent at times last year. Seems he's in EB's doghouse.

Washington’s offense has really only done something with short fields. They are leading, but not playing all that well.

I don't know how the result anywhere in the red zone is an INT when you have Drake and Pitts. It literally should never happen.

Ok, now I have some confidence. No way this defense should give up a 90+ drive in under 2 minutes here.

why did smiff go for 2? what am i missing?
Down 14, you need two scores. If you go for two on both TDs, you have the same expected points as if you kick. So, if you get the two on the first one, then you can just kick on the second.
100% correct. The math definitely makes sense. But there's a psychological effect of being down 7 vs 8 IMO where not only do you have to get the TD, but also convert the 2. Not getting the 2 almost makes the players feel like they are down 2 socres.

Arthur Smith’s penchant for making all the wrong decisions on offense is really something to behold.
in limited watches, smiff always seem to make the wrong choice. i love him

i mean, you have desmond ridder. when you miss and are down 8 you feel good needing a TD and a 2 just to tie with ridder? i don’t. also, love watching smiff lean on algeier. love using a premium pick on a time sharing rb.

Ugly win for Washington but I'll take it. Ridder really is awful, why they haven't tried the offense with Taylor H I don't know. It can't be any worse can it?

And yes Dotson had a BAD drop. But he's probably shocked he got a target...its unreal how they can't find a way to utlize their 1st round pick last year, who was so damn good, and now he's like the 5th or 6th option in the offense. :wall:

Falcons outgain the Commanders more two to one (402-193), dominate ToP, somehow lose. Can’t convert on third down, 3 turnovers. At least 3 of the 5 sacks were on Ridder bc his pocket presence is so awesome he consistently finds a defender to get tackled by.

Time for Taylor. Desmond can make plays & has an NFL arm but dang Arthur Smith is throwing a season away trotting him out there.

Shouldn't ATL be willing to throw the season if Ridder doesn't get it together? They'd need a new QB anyway. Might as well be near the top 10 of the draft for Drake Maye or whomever. Rolling Taylor out there at 30 years old does nothing. What ... 1-2 more wins ... it's the same scenario end of year anyway but with a worse draft position. I think their coach is a bigger problem than the QB. Smith looked absolutely clueless.

On the good side for WAS, Howell has shown he can likely play at the NFL level. Lots to work on and it's far from a done deal. But I don't think they are completely desperate for another QB. Which means they fix the other holes this offseason. So getting a new GM / coach may not be that hard since they have a lot of upside with new owner, talent on both sides, and a need at OL/LB that should be correctable. A good GM/coach should be willing to come here and that's important.
