I'm not going to go into the season picking against the Cowboys but let's just say it's fair that the Giants are favored to win the game. Dallas is dinged up already, hopefully the Giants play a little sloppy to keep the Cowboys in it and they have a chance to steal it at the end.

Eli will usually give you a shot as a defense to capitalize on a stupid play on his part, Dallas will need to execute on every chance they will get. I'm looking forward to the game to see where the Cowboys stand against one of the elite teams in the league.

Anyone foresee the cowboys run game having success? Dodds and others were pretty high on Murray. Does he start out where he left off before injury last year? Wasn't it the Giants game that he got injured in last year?

Fewell says the Giants will play more 3 LB since the LB core is deep now. They'll also play some 3 safety if needed but it looks like they want to see how well it goes with 3 LB. They'll rotate Kiwi, Blackburn, Boley, Rivers, Herzlich, and Williams at LB like they do the D-line.3 LB should help with the run defense and other than Kiwi and Blackburn, those LB are really good in pass defense.

What's the story/expectations of the Dallas D?
Pat Traina:Giants wide out Rueben Randle, who played with Cowboys cornerback Morris Claiborne at LSU, said he gave some advice to his fellow receivers regarding his old college teammate.“I told them he likes to hit them a lot, so just be prepared for that. You have to get his hands off you because once he gets his hands on you, he can control you. So that’s what I remember coming from the practice field You gotta get him to open up his hips, because if he gets comfortable, he’s going to he’s going to be able to break and run with you.”------------------------------------------------------------------------At least the Giants will know a bit extra about Claiborne. I expect he's currently a bigger cog for the Cowboys Defense than Randle is for the Giants offense. Ratliff, if he's out that helps a good bit. Cowboys haven't been very successful sacking Eli recently. During the week 17 game they put up a stat and it had been something like 120 drop-backs since they'd sacked Eli. During that game they eventually got to him.

What's the story/expectations of the Dallas D?
-The starters did not give up a TD during the preseason.-Basically the same front 7 save for Connor at ILB-Big upgrades at CB with Claiborne and Carr.-Barry Church is emerging as a safety with some range that this defense has been missing since Woodson.-Second year under Ryan and first year of a full training camp. I expect to see much more debate whether they are running a 4-3 or 3-4 with the zone blitzes. I have seen waaaaay more stunting then years past. You can expect to see a little 46 defense as well.-Ware is a bit banged up but should play.-Rat is very doubtful too.-Jenkins is also banged up and I do not expect to play. They are vulnerable in the flats and I fully expect the Giants to test this along with the rookie Claiborne.Overall though-I think the difference is going to be surprising to some.

Thanks for the feedback..I am trying to figure out whether I should start Eli or not. I likely will but have Cutler as an option.

Full disclosure, I'm a Cowboys fan but I'm a football fan first.

Dallas 1st string D hasn't allowed any TDs this offseason (Raiders, Chargers, Rams). A bit less impressive considering the Rams are one of those teams, but they weathered a few nice plays by McFadden/Rivers and kept both teams scoreless. I fully expect the Giants Offense will struggle much more against the Dallas D then they have in the past, especially with Nicks just recovering from his broken foot. This group is light years better than last year. Then again so are the Giants with the addition of Wilson, but that might take a few games to pan out.

There are some matchup nightmares for both teams:

[*]Dallas WRs are going to have a field day against the Giants CBs, well Dez anyway, not sure what's up with Miles.

[*]The Giants strength (D-line) matches absolutely perfectly with Dallas's weakness (O-line). If the G-Men get to an early lead, bad bad BAD news for the Cowboys.

[*]If this game stays close all the way to the 4th Quarter, Dallas will have the advantage due to being able to use Murray and negating the Giants pass rush by running. Murray is the best offensive player on the field for both teams IMO, and you can argue Cruz/Dez are the 2nd best players, but I'm taking Dez due to an ailing Giants secondary.

I'm curious how the Cowboys will play with the underdog role on Wednesday. They played very well in last year's 9-11 game up until the defense collapsed and put Romo in that precarious situation that led to an INT. The D is better, but so is the Giants O. Should be a great game.

Good observations....I want to add a couple of mine.

-I think the Giants go after Claiborne.

-Carr will be on Mr. Salsa

-Cowboys will attack the Giants 2 way imo...Murray will get a good share of carries, but more importantly he will catch the ball out of the backfield where he poses a big problem for the Giants LB's. Boley is also banged up. Dallas will take a couple shots vertically with the weakness being the Giants corners.

If the Dallas Oline doesnt play decent, it will be a looooong night for the Cowboys.

And Nicks is second.

And Nicks is second.
Romo third, Cruz fourth, dez fifth.

I meant to say skill positions b/c I'm not having another Romo vs (ENTER QB'S NAME HERE) Debate.

Nicks is a superior talent, but he hasn't played in over a month, he's NOT going to be the 2nd best player on the field on Wednesday. Carr/Claiborne will put up more resistance against Cruz than the Giants CBs will against Dez. Murray is a special player, I wouldn't be surprised if he was the best player on the field on Wednesday.

I think that anyone basing their opinion on what happened in preseason as an indication of what is set to go off on Wednesday night is in for a very rude awakening.

It was preseason. I think you take that stat about the Cowboys 1st string D allowing zero TDs and throw it right out the window.

I am not trying to ruffle any feathers, that is just my :2cents:

You aren't ruffling my feathers, I am not for a second saying they are the Doomsday D. However, there is a big difference that can be seen from preseason/training camp defense to the crap at the end of last year. Newman alone was a joke.

@AdamSchefter

Let's see if weathermen are right but forecast for Wednesday night's Cowboys-Giants regular-season opener is for heavy thunderstorms.

30% chance according to NOAA.

Boley will be fine for the game:

Boley said he felt very confident in his hamstring after having tested it for a couple of weeks.

“Between yesterday and today, just opening it up and running full speed and trying to do as much as I can on it, stress it as much as I can without overdoing it, it felt pretty good,” he said.

CB Corey Webster is solid and with Phillips or Rolle can limit Dez.

Murray will be have to evade defenders in the back field. The Giants LBs are no longer a weakness and are very deep. They should limit what Murray can do. He may only get 60 yds.

Cowboys should also be seeing a lot of long yardage due to sacks, false starts, holding, and the RB being tackled for a loss.

Romo should be under pressure on most drop backs. The WRs won't get much deeper than 10 yards before Romo has to get the ball out of there. Passing game should be a mess too. Dez rusty from being out. Same with Austin if he's able to play. No Witten. The other WRs and TEs aren't impressive.

Claiborne should get burned often. He won't be able to cover Nicks.

Carr he's good but he won't shut Cruz down. Cruz did fine against Revis and the Jets secondary and that was with Nicks out. Giants' Victor Cruz up to the challenge of the Jets' secondary

I wouldn't mind this at all. A good old NFC East slugfest in pouring rain sounds like a great way to start the season.

My only concern is if there are lightning delays. Could be a late night.

I dunno about you guys but I have a lot of Giants and Cowboys on my fantasy teams. Not so excited about a slippery field in Week 1.

sounds like the Cowboys shouldnt even show up

Thoughts about Sean Lee and his IDP production for this game?
Good. Sean Lee has some of the best instincts as a LB, I've ever seen. Very good in pass coverage too. Look for him to improve on his 4 ints of last year.Lee and Carter in the middle gets me fired up, unlike Brooking and James.

Look...the Giants are full value for being 4 point favorites in the game. They should win this game. However, as some of us have tried to show, it's not going to be a cakewalk. 1. Cowboys D is much improved whether you believe me or not.

2. Your starting CB's are Webster and Michael Coe hardly world beaters to cover 2 better then average WR's in Dez/Miles. I am fully aware of your stout pass and the problems it will cause us. Romo will not have all day to take 7 step drops.

3. I could be wrong, but I am hearing your LT is going to be Sean Locklear protecting Eli's blind side against Ware.

4. While I fully agree that Claiborne will get tested a lot, why do you assume he will get "burned often".

5. Superbowl champs have not lost an opener since they were moved to the opening game of the year with a perfect eight wins so far.

I don't want to get into a pissing match, but I just think that your post is written through the view Big Blue glasses.

As a Giants fan this game, as all season openers for the Giants, is worrisome. The Giants often come out rusty and have to play catch up in the 2nd half. I am concerned the offensive line has not gelled or that age may have caught up with them, which will make our potent RB's struggle for yardage. If we are forced to throw then we have to worry about Locklear protecting Eli from the back side against what should/could be a good rush.

This will be a close game I believe, and the hope for me is that the OL gets in gear by the 4th quarter and we can wear the defense down with two back attack and Cruz and Nicks getting possession/1st downs. If turnovers occur, God help me...

Nicks just working on the sidelines today. Not practicing.

I know he says he will play, but he seems like a risky week 1 start

Cowboys & NFL fan here, so not a "homer" who thinks they should go 16-0.

In order for the Boys to beat the Giants they need to be firing on all cylinders and they are not yet.

They will be juiced up of course for the first game and being in NY with all eyes on them.

However, let's be realistic:

The line is still a work in progress and that's their weakness versus the Giants strength. That doesn't bode well for Romo having any time and hitting his "back in action" receivers Dez and Miles.

Also, Witten most likely is out or not effective even if he plays after not practicing in almost three weeks.

The defense can step it up and do the offense a favor for once in this game. IF, they perform well Dallas has a chance to hang with NY and steal one late.

I'm hoping for a late close game with Dallas winning on a Bailey long FG.

wait a minute........i thought Dez and Austin are the ones who will be "rusty" and Nicks will turn Mo Claiborne into burnt toast.

It's a possibility. This is the equivalent of a Friday practice though,. With tomorrow being just a basic walk through, it's going to be tough to feel confident in him.

Personally, I'm starting Lynch over him in my flex.

He practiced fully on Saturday.

Great game on tap. Boy's score on a TD pass to Harris with under two minutes left. Harris will be the number one pick up this week in FF. Boys 31 G-Men 24

It doesn't worry you that he WAS practicing fully and now he isn't? Seems like a red flag to me.
Had to deal with this sort of thing with him before and Bradshaw's feet. It's giving the inflammation time to decrease for the game.

Forget the NY Jets, Dallas Cowboys are NY Giants’ real ‘little brother’

The birth certificate may say the Giants’ little brother are the Jets, but really, it’s the Cowboys Big Blue likes to boss around.

That’s the way this relationship has gone the last few years with the Giants winning seven of the last nine meetings — matching their most dominant nine-game stretch against Dallas since the Boys came into the NFL in 1960.

Quite simply, the Giants own the Cowboys and that has to be in the Cowboys’ heads as they prepare for Wednesday’s season opener at MetLife Stadium.

As a matter of fact, it’s not going to change Tony Romo proves he can stand in there against Eli Manning with the game on the line in the fourth quarter and beat the two-time Super Bowl MVP.

“A little bit,” Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz said when asked if the Giants own Dallas. “If we can just extend our play from last year the way we played against them — we got a pretty good beat on what they like to do. We just want to continue to play well, play the same way we’ve been playing and take it from there.”

The momentum switched in this bitter rivalry in the 2007 divisional round of the playoffs, when the Giants, a wild-card team, went into Texas Stadium and eliminated the NFC’s No. 1 seed on the way to the Super Bowl.

Romo felt so confident about that game that he took a mini-vacation during Dallas’ bye weekend and went to Cabo with girlfriend Jessica Simpson. Manning showed up in Cabo three months later to get married. A wedding ring wasn’t the only one on his finger.

That playoff game set the tone for dominance as the Giants have won seven of the last nine showdowns. The only other time Big Blue has had such prolonged success against America’s Team came during the darkest period in Cowboys history.

They beat Dallas twice in Tom Landry’s final season in 1988 when the Cowboys were 3-13. They beat them twice in 1989, Jimmy Johnson’s first year, when the Cowboys were 1-15. They beat them twice in 1990, when Dallas was 7-9. The Cowboys broke the six-game losing streak in the first game in 1991, the Giants won the rematch, but then the Cowboys won five in a row as Johnson turned them into Super Bowl champs.

Almost all of the trash-talking from the Dallas side in recent years has come from Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. Before the 2007 playoff game, he gave his players two tickets to the NFC Championship Game to be played at Texas Stadium if after the Cowboys beat the Giants. Tom Coughlin found out about it and turned Jones’ attempt to fire up the Cowboys as motivation for his guys. He then mocked Jones in the post-game locker room as he addressed his players “I don't want anybody talking about this in the media,” Coughlin said in a real serious tone, then with his right arm extended like he's holding something in his hand, he tells them, “Jerry just sent the tickets over. So, we're all set.”

Coughlin broke into a huge grin and his players shouted their approval.

Now Jones has done it again.

At a pep rally at Cowboys training camp in Oxnard, Calif., Jones told the fans: “I know we're standing here today. But we want you to come to (Cowboys Stadium) and watch us beat the New York Giants’ ### OK?”

This week, Jones told USA Today that desire to beat the Giants comes from admiration of Big Blue’s success.

“The Giants are an inspiration…We have that kind of respect for them,” Jones said. “I don't shy away or back off from saying, ‘Hey guys, you’ve got what I would have liked to have had.’”

The Boys will always be relevant, but Jones wants more. And he seems to be using Big Blue as a way to get a message to his team: The Giants are where we want to be.

“You can’t pay any attention to that,” Cruz said. “He’s going to say whatever he wants to say. At the same time, he’s not the one out there playing. You have to go out there and line up our 11 against his and see what happens. But it definitely adds a little incentive.”

Spoken like a real big brother.

This is garbage. All-time record between the teams through the 2011 season, Cowboys 56-42 with 2 ties. And the recent giants have talked more crap than anyone. Hopefully the Cowboys will shut em up
