Week 15 weather (1 Viewer)

Looks like the KC-SD could be nasty.

From the National Weather Service:

A chance of rain showers before 3pm, then a chance of rain or freezing rain. Mostly cloudy, with a temperature rising to near 58 by noon, then falling to around 36 during the remainder of the day. Breezy, with a south wind 23 to 26 mph becoming northwest. Winds could gust as high as 36 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

How would ya'll predict the impact to Thigpen and Larry Johnson .... Gates, LT2 and Rivers ?

I honestly don't know if games like that benefit the running game or the passing game or neither or .... ??

23mph winds (the forecast for tomorrow) negatively impact the passing and kicking games.

Do we move VJax down? Most his catches are long bombs from Rivers. Wind will definitely be a factor.

I'm moving Sproles in for Fargas. Although in this league I get KR points too. Sproles/LT could be in for a big day rushing/receiving.

According to the US Weather service link provided in post #8, it is currently 61 degrees in Kansas City. Brutal! I am definitely benching all my Chiefs and all my Chargers.
Also from the link: current winds 20 MPH gusting to 39 MPH.

Philip Rivers-QB- Chargers Dec. 14 - 8:29 am et

There is a wind advisory in effect in Kansas City today.

That doesn't sound good. The weather.com forecasts actually have the wind speed slightly down at gametime versus a few days ago, but it's expect be around 20MPH, with gusts going much higher. A wind advisory is issued when sustained winds could climb over 31 MPH. A similar advisory is in place in Cincy, where the Bengals face the Redskins. Don't panic because of the news, but it could hurt the passing games. Use weather as a tiebreaker in close matchups.

Would anyone consider sitting Bowe in this game or can he still do well in the short passing game? A.Gonzo is my only real choice.

I think it's obvious that temp isn't the issue here.

I'm in the same boat. I was rolling with Bowe and Keading. Now I'm considering switching both out for DeShawn Jackson and Prater. What to do? This is crucial obviously.

I learned from Brees at Tampa a few weeks ago, in which he still had a solid fantasy day despite near-hurricane conditions, not to focus too much on the weather.

Obviously the TEs will be a slightly better option but what to make of the WRs? Bowe is a guy that's pretty good on the short game whereas V. Jackson is more of a deep threat. Can KC run at all? Do they have no choice but to pass? Does anybody recall what the splits looked like in that God-awful Patriots/Jets matchup last year? That game sank a lot of teams IIRC.

And what about the big sleeper this week, Bess?
Bess is more of the short-route, underneath/inbetween kind of WR isn't he (I admit to never having seen him play)? If that is correct, I don't think it hinders him much. Long-ball guys like Ginn will be hard to get big days out of. WCO can survive in this, play-action-downfield offenses don't.

Yes, he is that kind of WR, but still, they may run more now.

How does weather effect Defenses? I would think windy conditions= more run, less chance for sacks and Int. Rainy or slippery conditions would lead to more fumbles. So does windy= downgrade, rainy/slippery= upgrade?

I'm thinking of putting in Bess for VJax. Is it really windy in Miami too? I'm I just subbing bad weather for bad weather?

Sure, they'll run more, and have the backs to do it with but this isn't the 49ers of the last few years. They are quietly improving every year and have again this year after Singletary took over. Their D is getting tougher, and the offense more efficient. Miami WILL have to pass some to stay ahead, and if a few of those deep balls are redistributed to Fasano/Bess, then those two shouldn't take a hit to their stats. The QBs and the deep-ball WRs typically have dismal games here. Welkers and T.J.Houshz and Wittens don't drop much in the rankings for me.

Davone Bess? I'm pretty sure his fantasy stats this week won't be affected by the weather in Kansas City.
OMG look it's a comedian everybody!!!The title is "Week 15 weather", not "Week 15 weather IN KC" genius. It's blowing in Miami.

Looks like KC is gusting over 30 and sustained over 20. Miami is reporting 18-20 so I'm going S.Hill over T.Thigpen. Besides, Thigpen may not have Bradley. Hill is getting WRs back from the training room.

Yeah, I'm one of "those guys" that managed to win a playoff game riding Thigpen & Hill at QB. Miami weather looks just about identical to KC.
Same here with Thigpen and Hill. So I think I am rolling the dice and going with Senneca Wallace vs The ram's!!

I take it everyone's sneaky kicker play of the week Carpenter sits today? Who are you picking up? I'm going with Feely, not too windy in NY today.

I live on the western side of town in KC, and it's been windy all week. I'm laying in bed typing this and I can hear the wind whipping around outside. I believe it will affect the game. I have Thigpen, Eli and Hill to choose from, and I'm struggling at this point. Thiggy could end up running for 40-50 yards, so his yardage points could still be solid. As for TDs, it's a crapshoot. If Bradley doesn't play, that hurts him. Bradley hasn't played the last couple of weeks, and it's impacted Thiggy's game. When Bradley was in and healthy, Thiggy looked like the QBOTF for the Chiefs. I'm leaning Eli right now, especially with Jacobs out.

Maybe even worse in Miami - 25 to 35 mph winds today and into the evening in Miami.
Damn!!! Where did you see that? I just followed the KC link a couple posts up to Miami and it looked bad, but not as bad as KC.
KC: sustained winds 20-21 mph from the WSW with gusts 35+, as the afternoon progresses winds continue and change coming from WNW, temps dropping into upper 20's with light freezing rain starting around 5:00 p, changing to light snow/wintry mix after nightfall.Miami: partly cloudy, 77 degrees, winds 18-20 from the East.

I'll take Hill with his short decisive passing attack against the tougher D with the above listed weather.

I'm going with Hill, as I've already dropped Hass since he is done for his career, Palmer is done 'till 2010 and T.Edwards is messed up as well. :hot:

COASTAL PALM BEACH-COASTAL BROWARD-COASTAL MIAMI DADE-

404 AM EST SUN DEC 14 2008

EAST WINDS OF 15 TO 20 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS WILL OCCUR ALONG THE

ATLANTIC COAST OF MIAMI DADE, BROWARD, AND PALM BEACH COUNTIES

TODAY AND INTO THIS EVENING. THE COMBINATION OF THIS ONSHORE FLOW AND LOW

TIDES DURING THE EARLY AFTERNOON HOURS WILL RESULT IN A HIGH RISK OF

RIP CURRENTS ALONG THE ATLANTIC BEACHES...AND SWIMMING IS STRONGLY

DISCOURAGED.

A RIP CURRENT IS A 10 TO 30 YARD WIDE CHANNEL OF WATER THAT CAN

PULL EVEN A STRONG SWIMMER FROM NEAR OR INSIDE THE SAND BAR INTO

DEEPER WATER. DUE TO THE LIFE THREATENING DANGERS THAT THESE

STRONG CURRENTS OF WATER POSE...SWIMMING IS NOT ADVISED.

IF YOU DO GO INTO THE WATERS...SWIM AT GUARDED BEACHES AND HEED

THE ADVICE OF THE BEACH PATROL. IF CAUGHT IN THE SEAWARD PULL OF

A RIP CURRENT DO NOT ATTEMPT TO MOVE DIRECTLY TOWARD SHORE.

INSTEAD...MOVE SIDEWAYS ACROSS THE RIP CURRENT UNTIL THE PULL

EASES.

AN ALTERNATE METHOD OF ESCAPE IS TO LET THE RIP CURRENT PULL YOU

SEAWARD 50 TO 100 YARDS...WHERE THE FORCE WEAKENS...AND THEN SWIM

TOWARD THE BEACH AT AN ANGLE AWAY FROM THE CURRENT.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

I was going to put some swimmer jokes in that, but was too lazy. Thanks for doing it for me

Just a general question. At what winds do you start avoiding kickers? I have Bironas and it says 14 mph winds with gusts to 20 mph. Is that a reason to find other options?

I don't think so. I doubt they'll give him any 50+ yard attempts, but 40s should be makable for him.Uhg! Dome! :confused:Miami/SF kickers I wouldn't be super-worried about either if it's 20 or < I call that good kite wind, not bad football wind.
