week 16 defense (1 Viewer)

Houston's defense has been up and down this year, but looked pretty good at home vs Jacksonville last week, and in week 16 they face the offensiveless Raiders. Great matchup.

Cleveland's defense has been pretty solid, they have 17 ints this year, and held the high powered Colts offense to 13 points last week. In week 16 the Bengals, and assuming Palmer is still out, there isn't a much better matchup for any defensive unit.

Both could help you win a title this year. I personally have the Bucs and Panthers defense, and may end up starting one of these teams over both based on these juicy matchups.

Anyone agree, disagree?

I agree those two are worth consideration. HOU is not one I would have thought about initially, since the Raiders seems like they were improving, but after last night's performance it's clear they are not. Also in the mix should be CIN (at CLE) and NO (at DET). I watched some of the CIN/CLE the first time and with Anderson/Fitzpatrick it was an ugly game to watch. Now CLE has downgraded their QB due to injury. Maybe CLE is the better defensive choice being at home, but you can't overlook CIN either. Anyone against DET must be considered as they are generally horrible and have given up the most fantasy points to opposing defenses.

 I think NO at Det is risky though. Jason David is very vulnerable at CB. I could see at least two tds to Calvin and Kevin Smith might be able to find some running room. Still, Culpepper is likely to throw some INTs trying to keep up with the Sains off.

I just picked up Clev and will start them over Carolina week 16, unless Palmer comes back strong...then I will hope Hou is still there.

Houston and Cleveland have good matchups, but are risky plays because they just aren't that good defensively. I have Dallas right now vs. Baltimore if I get that far.

I hear ya. It's not like I expect a shutout from any of the defenses we are talking about, so giving up a token bomb to Megatron is not a major concern of mine. The Saints pass rush has been much better the past 3 weeks with 10 sacks and in the last game when someone tried to go deep on them with regularity (Rodgers) they ended up with 3 INTs. I guess I see DET having 3-4 turnovers and 3-4 sacks given up. Maybe a defensive score for NO with a Culpepper bonehead play...who knows?

Cleveland has forced 23 TO's, has a great punt/kicker returner is Josh Cribbs, and doesn't give up a lot of points usually.

I have been riding the Vikings D all year, but do not feel comfortable starting them in the playoffs if they are without Pat and Kevin. We only have 4 teams in the playoffs so they do not start until week 15. The Vikings have Arizona who should be able to move the ball well against the weak secondary, and Atlanta who should crush them on the ground if the Williams are out.

I picked up the Colts (Det.) for week 15 and the 49ers (Stl.) for week 16.

I was lucky enough to have 2 spare roster spots at this point in the season.

I'll throw in SF at STL. SJax will be back, but STL hasn't look good all season long. SF could hold them back from points and yards that week.

I'm back and forth on NO aginst DET. I agree with post above that NO could be risky if CJ catches a few TD bombs.

I ruled out NO cuz of the suspensions. They just dont have any talented players on def. I picked up HOU (vs OAK) cuz of last night and Mario Williams vs Kwame Harris :lmao: . CLE is also an idea I might have to look into.

I would hate to see this, but SJax could easily be re-injured 3 weeks from now. If so, that SF pick is :goodposting:

Yea... Williams vs Harris would clearly be a mismatch. Was it just me or did I hear Bob Papa refer to Kwame Harris as "quaim harris" instead of "quah may harris?" Maybe he has the right pronunciation and I don't, but I have never seen a Kwame pronounced as "quaim" before.

Its Quaim.

we'll see how cle offense looks these next couple weeks, but I'd think cincy would be about as good a pick as cle.

I never thought I'd hear myself saying cincy def would be a good pick

What are the thoughts on STL and SEA week 15?
I like Sea vs StL. But, S Jax makes a huge difference. You saw what he did to Dallas. That's not to say they aren't a good play, but expectations should be tempered if he plays.

The SeaHags have scored well on defense against only 2 teams: StL and SF. That last SF game was the last time Kerney played back in week 8.

I think anyone relying on the Clowns defense is going to be sorry they did come Sunday afternoon.

bump - What are the thoughts now?

Agree that both CIN @ CLE are decent plays for week 16. Hard for me to decide which I like better. Also like the HOU pick above @ OAK. It seems like HOU is playing pretty hard these past few weeks. SF @ STL has some interest for me as well, but with Gore out SF has less offense to keep STL off the field. I'm not liking NO @ DET after this week. DET is still trying desperately to get a win and CJ2 and Smith are putting up some numbers...

I've gotta give these both some serious thought. I am in the superbowl and every time I benched the Steelers D for the Giants (or any other team in my other league) I regretted it. I may dance with the date I brought for the finals.

Houston @ Oak is looking pretty good. I originally picked up Cle to play @cin....but the Bengals are actually playing decent right now...and I lost in one league because of Washington's Defensive effort vs the Bengals.
