week 17 - players who might not play (1 Viewer)

Do the Colts have anything to play for this week?
Yes. If they win and the Bengals lose, they grab the 3 seed.

The only playoff or possible playoff team with nothing to play for this week is the Chiefs. They are locked into the 5 seed in the AFC. Every other team can move up or down depending on the outcome of this weekend.

Colts actually are still eligible for the #2 seed if they win, Patriots lose, and Bengals tie/lose.

Anyway that's not why I'm here.

Looks like there's a very strong possibility that BOTH Gresham and Eifert won't play for the Bengals this week due to injury, meaning that Orson Charles and Alex Smith will be lining up at TE. The practical news is that this opens up a lot more 3 and maybe 4 WR sets than they usually play. This will particularly be the case if they fall behind. If they are ahead/close however, it means ball control. Ultimately it make Jones and especially Sanu better play than they otherwise might have been. Baby Hawk should see a little bump too, but if you're in a championship game I can't imagine your team being so ravaged as to consider starting him.

It's really an interesting week in that the Chiefs really are the only team that will be resting guys for the playoffs. Some of these teams may pull guys earlier than normal if the game is out of hand. Non-contenders like Minnesota will protect their long-term investments like ADP probably. But all in all this week 17 should be the most "normal" one in terms of who's playing in a long long time.

Lacy possibly. He didn't practice today and is looking more and more like the dreaded game time decision.
Eddie Lacy (ankle) is listed as probable for Week 17.
He'll be a top-five daily league option against the sieve-like Bears.
Thanks for the insight.

Once again, week 17 championships seem to be no more or less affected than any other week. Outside of Charles, can't think of many that will be rested this week.

Which means the team with the No. 1 running back in fantasy this year is at an even greater disadvantage this week because that's the only team being impacted significantly. Awfully tough to find 20+ points on your bench or on the Waiver Wire.

who cares? it's part of the luck of the game. just like calvin johnson owners who had him the past 2 weeks where he laid an egg when it mattered was bad luck. stuff happens.

"playing week 17 championships" will be the new "not playing week 17 championships" soon enough. all you're doing is costing yourself a week of fantasy fun without it.
