Week 17 - which teams rest their starters? (1 Viewer)

In week 17 we commonly see some teams resting guys/not trying and others going all out. I know I can't be the only one in 17 week fantasy league, DFS, and pick em leagues where things are coming down to the wire. So, homers out there, what's the speculation? I'd like to create this one mass thread to keep track of all of this.

So far I've heard the following teams may not be trying week 17:

1. Minnesota - this one surprised me to hear since they can win the division, but some talk radio analysts are speculating they may not play to win to avoid playing Seattle.

2. Green Bay - ditto as above. Which would be interesting. Although I think if they win they still get Minnesota at home? I'd think they want to win. But some guy this morning was opining that they won't be trying.

3. Arizona - on the assumption that Carolina will beat TB and Arizona's stars are pretty old.

4. Carolina - If they assume AZ rests their starters - although, I think they're going to play to win to get "back on track" and clinch the one seed.

5. Kansas City - I think they're locked into the 5 seed? Could be wrong though.

6. Seattle - I don't think winning or losing changes their positioning. I think they're the sixth seed no matter what. Be curious if they play AZ and neither team tries.

7. Tennessee - a loss and they have the first pick in the draft.

Teams that will try:

1. New England - I'm hearing reports that they're going all out to ensure the one seed.

2. Denver/Cinci - to avoid having to play in the wild card round

3. Jets/Chiefs/Steelers - all battling to get in and for position.

4. Houston - I think they have to try given that Indy could technically over take them. However, this could stop at halftime if Indy is getting blown out.

Any teams to add or comment on?

FWIW, Arians has said he won't rest starters.

If I play Daily this week, will probably focus on Pitt/Jets/KC/NE

I'm gonna roll heavy on Patriots in DFS this week, as well as in a championship game in a small $ season-long league. Pats losing week 16 was a godsend for me in that league as now they'll be out to throttle a totally #### Dolphins team who I expect to lay down & get steamrolled. I am also loving the fact that O'Brien is saying the Texans are going all-out (I own Hopkins & expect him to be huge against that nothing Jags secondary).

I think the only team to clearly avoid is Redskins; I'd likely also not go out of my way to start Chiefs. I know they theoretically have a chance at the division if Denver loses, but come on...Broncos at home vs. Chargers (w/ it's tissue paper o-line) in a game that can lock-up a BYE...no one in their right mind expects that game to be competitive.

I will say that I expect the Broncos to win. However, Osweiler isn't very good and if he plays poorly again and the Broncos struggle to score the game could end up being a lot more competitive than it may appear. If I were Andy Reid, I'd play my starters and win the game and then see if I get a little lucky.

Course if I was Andy Reid, Travis Kelce would lead the league in TE targets so what the hell do I know.

Why focus on KC?
Don't they still have a small shot at the division? I'm mainly thinking of playing the defense.
They play late as do the Broncos. I just can't see Reid sitting players if a win locks up a first-round home game. It would be nuts to pass on that. It's not highly probable San Diego beats Denver but after what we saw last week around the league I sure wouldn't call it impossible.

Okay so consensus is that Washington and Tennessee are only two teams laying down?
I can see dallas laying down too. They look like they are laying down when they are trying to win actually. I like the Pierre Thomas play this week.....

Bump.

Knowing what we know now, which lines look good?

Washington +4

Carolina -10

Broncos -9

Patriots -10

Thoughts?

Do the Washington Redskins have anything to play for? I think they're locked into the 4 seed regardless.
It's why they are 4 point dogs to the cowboys this week. I would tread careful there.
I have a week 17 championship and will not be starting Jordan Reed at TE because I don't see him playing a full game.
Reed will get at least one reception and cousins throws for over 120 yards. Beyond that, who knows.

Gotta think Patriots crush Miami, especially if Amendola can play.

I'd avoid the Washington game. No way of knowing how long the starters play. I'd bet on the Chargers with that line. San Diego's D is actually playing pretty well lately and the Broncos can't score with Osweiler. I wouldn't be surprised if the Chargers won that game. Panthers without Stewart and Ginn is a big concern so that one could end up being closer too.

^^^Agreed, fwiw. I'd have zero issues with being heavy on the Patriots in particular The Dolphins are gonna get steamrolled.

This is the worst week of the season for Dailies. I will lay low for the most part as it's a complete crapsoot and 90% of lineups will be focused on the same games that have the most importance for teams. If you can pick out that outlier where a player goes off in a meaningless game you have gold. GL finding them.

Just as regards the Min/GB game - neither team is going to "try to lose" or "play not to win" - the radio analysts are dumb. Both teams want to win the division, and guarantee themselves a home game for round 1. No chance, IMO, either one has any intention of not trying their best to win this game.

Also, just in general, a winning streak going into the playoffs and a home playoff game for round 1 (and potentially for the championship round if Az or Car lose), it worth way more than the chance to play Wash over Seattle, a team that is actually pretty hot themselves right now (albeit against relatively weak competition the last few weeks).

Yeah it really sounds like the only team who may sit players is Washington. Although with that line properly at +4 I don't see an edge there. Just otherwise keep Washington players out of fantasy lineups except for maybe Pierre Thomas if he's playing.

I'd note gurley is being held out but otherwise I can't see them just laying down. Same thing for Jeffery in Chicago.

well I'm confused - if WAS is laying down its starters, wouldn't Dallas have a chance to produce offensively?

is WAS DEF not a good start if Dallas is so bad?
