Week 5 waiver wire (1 Viewer)

Who do you see being a hot pickup next week that you would take a chance on this week to beat the rush? I'm talking about some really deep candidates that for the most part aren't on people's radar this week.

One guy I have my eye on is Keenan Burton. A few people might have added him this week, but he's still available in nearly all leagues. If he has a big game this week, he has a chance to step right in where Robinson left off.

I feel like there's a few RB situations that are in flux this week, as well as a few QBs, too, for really deep leagues or start 2 QB leagues.

Mendenhall and Moore at not owned in many Yahoo leagues apparently. One of these guys could be the WW hot commodity if WP doesn't play. Especially in a game that people will probably be watching.

If Kevin Smith doesn't start, could be a skirmish to pick up MoMo after.

These are always a shot in the dark type thing, but I am keeping an eye on Adrian Peterson (Chi). I like what he brings to the table and if Forte continues to struggle, I think we could see more of him in the future. He is a strait line back that takes what the defense gives him. Not a real big homerun threat, but I really feel like he is the change of pace the Bears offense needs right now. And if Forte should ever get dinged up, he is in line for the bulk of the workload.

QB: Josh Johnson after 180 yards passing and a rushing TD

RB: Mendenhall after 80 yards rushing and a rushing TD

WR: Kenny Britt after 60 yards receiving and a TD

TE: Kevin Boss after 60 yards and a TD

Have a source for this?I haven't been able to find anything mentioning this... actually only found news of the opposite.

Yeah, I just grabbed him yesterday. As a McNabb owner, I covered my butt cause there's no way I'll be leaning on Kerry Collins or Shaun Hill for the rest of the season.

Did that happen during a matchup on your Madden 2009?

The two adds I'm scrambling to find room for this week are Moore and Edelman.

Not liking how the winds are blowing for either FWP or Welker, and I have a hard time seeing Mendenhall taking the job by the throat.

I'm keeping an eye on Domenik Hixon. Manningham's been solid, but I wonder if Coughlin goes back to Hixon when he's healthy.

Also Kolb, even though Reid says he expects McNabb to return. Would love to plug in Kolb for a home game against TB.

I'd keep an eye on the Cleveland RB situation. Lewis is out and getting old, Davis is on IR, and Harrison seems to have alot of potential (85yds v. Balt DEF). Tonight might be the last time to get him if you're not high in the waiver wire priority.

I agree with this. Harrison could be a decent choice with Davis out and Lewis being old.

When did this happen?

Burton was added this week to 49 of 73 WCOFF main event teams (and might have already been on some rosters)

I replaced L. Robinson with Burton after watching that game and seeing that he got as many targets that Avery got.

I'll chime in....

Browns rookie James Davis out for the season

Browns placed RB James Davis (shoulder) on injured reserve, ending his season.

It's a shocker. Davis had a monster preseason and was a hot sleeper on draft day thanks to Jamal Lewis' declining play. But Davis got into a minor car accident before Week 1, fell way behind Jerome Harrison on the depth chart and struggled with the shoulder injury. The exact nature of the injury is unclear right now, but Davis clearly had a setback. RB Chris Jennings was signed off the practice squad to take Davis' spot. Oct. 3 - 3:07 pm et

Just took a gamble and dropped Choice for Harrison :bye: ...Love to grab Philadelphia DST(owner dropped them on week 4 bye) for weeks 5, 6 & 7(TB, Oak, Wash). :goodposting:

Another owner dropped GB this week figuring no one would pick them up because of Minn. week 4 and the week 5 bye.

I snagged them because of the favorable matchups with Detroit in weeks 6 and 12, Clev. in week 7 and TB in week 9.

Could be HUGE! Grab them if you can!

Made the same move 2 days ago! They have some sweet matchups and paired with the Saints I'm good to go for the next 8 weeks.

Excellent news about Philly schedule, I had overlooked them instead planning on picking up the NYJ for week 5...now have a connundrum.

NYJ or Philly?  NYJ has some matchups against Miami and Oak that seem juicy.

in my league, most backup RBs are gone...one of the only uncharted areas is chicago (and green bay too, i guess). have read forte might be banged up (or might not). maybe peterson or wolfe (or with green bay who? wynn or the injured jackson) might be about the last of the preemptive RB grabs one could do that might pay off (as the bradshawaw/jones/charles/coffee/harrison/etc trains have gone already).

Dropping Choice may be a move that bites you in the ###.

I read somewhere that Coughlin has a loyalty to Hixon and he'll be the #2 receiver when he returns. I forget where I read that but it made me go

D.A after he goes for 250+ and 2 TDs
I agree, I wont be picking him up because I think this will be one of his top games, but Cleveland and Cincinati games, from my short term memory, always seem to be high scoring games.

Don't rule out Isaac Redman (RB-PIT) - he ran with great urgency, physicality, and leg drive in preseason and training camp. Rashard Mendenhall has only been effective enough to draw mixed reviews at best, and he's been on Mike Tomlin's bad side. He could get anything from a shot at goal line carries to even a drive or two if the Steelers want to use him, and he could follow in Willie Parker's footsteps by going from undrafted RB to a big part of the backfield...

Because of the Dallas RB situation (own both Barber and Choice) I'm taking a flyer on starting Mendenhall (just picked him up on the waiver wire - had to drop McCoy) this week and I have no research to back it up other than FBG have him rated high enough with a .5 chance for a TD and about 60 yards rushing. That's rolling the dice...

Oh I think Mendenhall is the guy to pick up right now, but Redman could be that guy who emerges in the game if Mendenhall isn't up to the task - and of course we already know Mewelde Moore can get the job done, but he was the guy to pick up during this week too, especially in PPR leagues.

You mean the same Hixon the Giants were shopping in the potential trade for Braylon Edwards? The Browns wanted Smith, but the Giants said no way and offered up Hixon instead. This says to me that the Giants aren't too high on Hixon, but this doesn't negate what you said about Coughlin. Just some info that too me says that with Manningham stepping up at best I see Hixon getting a 50/50 split with Manningham's targets.

Thinking more 2-4 weeks ahead, but I had an extra roster spot with Hasselbeck on IR so I picked up Leinart. Don't like the look of Warner's hip. They are on bye, then get @Houston. Two weeks after that they get the G-Men. I never wait for players to get hurt, but I just don't think Warner finishes the season. Leinart could be one of those midseason guys for some teams. Plus I want to keep him away from the Warner owner. If Warner goes out, Leinart would be huge WW pickup.

Yep. They'll never bench Warner, but he looks gimpy, and has been taking a beating. Get Leinart if you have the space.

Pittsburgh game yet to be played but :wall: to the people who picked Harrison. My pick of Betts, not so good. Good thing I didn't own him or have the chance to start him.

I actually hope the Eagles continue to rest McNabb for the stretch run. The next 2 games are Tampa Bay at home and then on the road against the Raiders. I would let Kolb play those two and have McNabb 100% ready for the meat of the schedule with Redskins, Giants and Cowboys (3 huge division games) and then the Chargers, Bears next two weeks.
