Week one and having a top waiver priority (1 Viewer)

It seems that week one there are always some big names on that wire that many times can win your season. Cam Newtown for example last year. I know when i have a bad first week, which means i will have a high waiver priority i am not too upset. Which makes me wonder. Does anyone use this as a strategy and try to put together a line up that may allow for this? Would this be unethical?

Only unethical to yourself .... 13 reg. season fantasy games, and weeks 1-3 have NO byes ... gotta maximize your efforts early on. Not a crippling loss, but; if intentional, not wise. :pickle:

I wouldn't tank a game. You only get 13 or so in a season and there's enough luck involved in weekly wins and losses that it's foolish to waste a chance at a win you may well need to make the playoffs. You also don't know you're going to get someone worthwhile on the WW. I recommend you just try to win and leave the over-strategizing alone.

For the 1st waiver wire only, we use last years finish and the first week (each worth 50%) to determine the order. the feeling is that the teams that finished last deserve the chance to turn around their team quicker...it also stops this thought process

good idea!

In our league waier order for week one is simply reverse draft order. after that it's just a rolling system completely unrelated to wins and losses. For instance, I happen to have the #1 waiver wire pick. When I use that pick I just go to the back of the line and start again at the #12 spot until the 11 fools ahead of me use their slots and I'm at #1 again.

Pretty simple and fair (although I prefer faab). Totally erases the thought of tanking to get #1 waiver priority also.

There is no reason every league shouldn't be using Free Agent Blind Bidding system this day and age. By far the most fair and most fun way of doing it.

I personally find it the most fair and a good intro into an auction-style draft (you can refer to the bidding system) if you have a league that is hesitant to go that way.

Must have good Fantasy Football Karma to have a shot at the championship. Tanking week one really will rile the Fantasy Gods. Just back away from the thought.

I've never used blind bidding but am trying to get one league to do so. I HATE the waiver wire for many reasons including the ridiculous suggestion in the OP.My main league is FCFS. It works for us b/c free agent pick ups are capped at 10 per owner for the season.
