were do you rank Mathias Kiwanuka as DE (1 Viewer)

Kiwanuka played well as an end when Osi was injured in 2006 -- 38-8-4 in ten games. I think he belongs in the second tier for now, and could be better or worse depending on how the rest of the defensive line comes together.

Ah, but if he is listed as a LB on league sites, then he holds a LOT less value.is there a precedent for MFL to change position designations, after they have already changed them?

True enough. I was just responding to his potential production after the position switch.MFL moved Greg Ellis inseason a couple of years ago IIRC. I think it's possible additional switches could be made before the season begins.

I just read on the MFL message board that they use the Roto depth charts for player positions. Roto has already switched him to DE, so hopefully MFL updates it soon.

My question for the board is what will happen to Kiwanuka if Strahan comes back?

Will he start at DE then eventually get moved back to LB when MS gets in shape?

Will his position stay listed as DE if he starts the season there, but then end up playing LB? What will this do to his value?

I am in a dynasty league where (for complicated reasons related to details of transition and franchise tags) it would cost me about 3.75% of my total salary cap if he is on my roster come regular season. He used to be too pricey but now I am less sure.

Tackles are 2 pts, assists 1 pt, and sacks 3 pts.

We start 3 LBs and 4 DLs and have basically a 45 player roster.

I currently have:

Bulluck, Keith TEN LB

Posluszny, Paul BUF LB

Henderson, EJ MIN LB

Davis, Bruce PIT LB ® (Taxi)

Lofton, Curtis ATL LB ® (Taxi)

Carlson, John SEA TE ® (Taxi)

Gholston, Vernon NYJ LB ® (Taxi)

Connor, Dan CAR LB ® (Taxi)

Allen, Jared MIN DE

Smith, Will NOS DE

Williams, Mario HOU DE

Coleman, Kenyon NYJ DE

Any thoughts at whether Kiwanuka has value on my team given his expense?

I'm curious - does anyone know if Kiwi lost weight this offseason in order to improve his play as a LB?

I still do not see a ranking for Kiwanuka on the FBG IDP rankings (perhaps I am missing him).

So I will ask the OP question again for Jene, John, Sigmund and the rest:

Where would you project Kiwanuka as a DE this year?

Second tier for me will likely be in the 15-25 range. Now that Strahan will seemingly stay retired, Kiwanuka should start showing up in everyone's DL rankings.

Thanks Jene! I had little schema of how "tiers" work in IDP.

Now that I mention it, not much idea in offense either, since different people mean different things.

I was always confused as to why they moved him in the first place after saying they thought he would be better than Mario Williams at DE the year they drafted him. They just got so fat at DL they wanted to make use of his athleticsim somewhere. He was not a natural at LB either. I have high hopes for him, he sure looks the part. Sad for the G-men tho, loose 2 studs at 1 position and suddenly you are thin where you once were fat.

What happens to Kiwi when Osi returns next year?
I think it's too early to tell. It may depend on how the young NYG linebackers develop. If they can find a couple of solid OLBs (DeOssie, Kehl, Goff, Kiwanuka) or draft another player, it's certainly possible that Kiwanuka might play in rotation or bump Tuck inside to a three-technique role. You can never have enough pass rushers. Also very possible, especially if Kiwanuka doesn't play to his 06 form at end, that the team reverts back to what they had planned this season with Strahan gone and Osi healthy.

Tough to see a spot for him long term at DE with Tuck and Osi. Kiwi needs to play out his deal, get the heck out of dodge, and go play DE somewhere.

Giants made 3 stud DEs work last year with Strahan, Umenyiora, and Tuck. Kiwanuka isn't a great comparison to Strahan, but they could still probably find enough snaps for all 3 in a full-time rotation.

As for Kiwanuka, it looks like most of us FBG staffers have him in the 15 to 20 range of DEs.

isnt Kiwi 6-8 300 pounds that is scare as hell if he is athletic enough to play hybrid LB/DE, could you imagine being a 5-11 slot reciever and trying to catch one in the middle with him learching around

You've mistaken him for Hulk Hogan. :coffee:

Any opinions on Tuck's value now? I had him borderline #1 DE, but now w/o Osi I think hes going to see alot more attention and will struggle. Guys a beast though so who knows.
