Mississippi town figures out simple, effective way to stop civil rights voting protest

April 23, 2011 · 271 comments

Brandon, Mississippi will go down in history as the town where the civil rights movement met its match.

The Negroes showed up to vote, but left town without making a peep. They may have made a few moans and groans, but no peeps.

The Hayride has the righteous report:

A couple of days before, one of them (civil rights protestors) ran his mouth at a Brandon gas station and got his #### waxed. Police were called and the beaten man could not give much of a description of who beat him. When they canvassed the station and spoke to the large crowd that had gathered around, no one seemed to remember anything about what had happened.

Rankin County handled this thing perfectly. There were many things that were put into place that most will never know about and at great expense to the county.

Most of the morons never made it out of their hotel parking lot. It seems that certain Rankin county pickup trucks were parked directly behind any car that had northern plates in the hotel parking lot and the drivers mysteriously disappeared until after the balloting was over. Police were called but their wrecker service was running behind and it was going to be a few hours before they could tow the trucks so the northern plated cars could get out.

A few made it to the polls but were ushered away to be questioned about a crime they might have possibly been involved in. Turns out, after a few hours of questioning, that they were not involved and they were allowed to go on about their business.

No lawyers. No judges. No counter protests. Just a good old fashioned ### kicking.

That’s exactly what the civil rights protestors have been asking for, so it’s only fair that the good folks in Rankin County gave it to them.
I am in no way comparing the loathsome behavior of the Westboro crew to that of civil rights protesters. But I am making a point about the tyranny of the majority, and why it's not o.k. for crimes to be committed and rights to be trampled in the name of silencing voices we don't want to hear.

.Assault
When police canvassed the station and spoke to the large crowd that had gathered around, no one seemed to remember anything about what had happened.
Obstruction of justice. Accessory after the fact.

False imprisonment.

Unlawful detainment.
No lawyers. No judges. No counter protests.
No law. No rights. Vigilantism.I hate that crap like this makes me defend members of Westboro, just like I'm sure the Supreme Court hated having to uphold their free speech rights. But our nation is founded on rights - and you either believe in that foundation or you don't. It's not o.k. to believe in upholding rights of people you like but ignoring them for people you find abhorrent. I agree that clever counterprotests that marginalize and ridicule these filth are the best way to react. Reacting to the venom these idiots spew only empowers them. But I also understand why it would be incredibly painful for mourners to see them, which is why I also support groups of bikers or firefighters or whoever else form human barricades to shield them from view. But I can't get all excited about assault or about police malfeasance.
Not to mention that after the lawsuit that will be filed and the settlement that will come of it that town/county will end up funding future protests.

Wow, can't believe people here are sticking up for these protestors.

As a guy born and raised in Brandon, MS I'm extremely proud of my hometown. Yeah, the rules weren't bent and eyes were turned, but these people are the scum of the earth. As a new father I couldn't imagine my son being killed in war and have to deal with these #### bags at his burial site.

Yeah everyone has rights, even these slugs, but so do the citizens. And the citizens of Brandon had the right to get in their way.

Westboro Baptist Church “Thanks God” for Joplin Victims

The Westboro Baptist Church (WBC) has found a new group of people to rally against. The Kansas church, most infamous for its hatred of homosexuals, posted a document last Monday on its website celebrating the deaths of the Joplin, Missouri tornado victims.

“Thank God for 89 dead & counting in Joplin, Mo & 1 dead in Reading, KS!” the document declared in capital letters. “God’s whirlwind is pounding the enemies of Christ! WBC will picket your raging blasphemous stinky memorials!”
Pathetic. Disgusting.

Your use of the English language makes you a conformist; my point being that sometimes it's okay to conform.

At some point they are going to reap their own whirlwind. I only hope that no innocents end up in the casualty count.

It baffles my mind that this nut job preacher can find as many followers of his "church", and do these asinine protests.

The notorious Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kan. announced Tuesday that its members will protest any public service held for 'Jackass' star Ryan Dunn, who died on Monday in a high speed car accident, according to Daily Local of West Chester in Pennsylvania.

The church has a history of protesting high-profile burials, often calling deaths a punishment from God. The group has been denounced as radical by many Christian organizations.

"WBC will picket any public memorial/funeral held for Dunn, warning all not to make a mock of sin, and to fear and obey God," the group said in a news release. It's headline states: "Ryan Dunn is in hell!"

Maybe this is what is needed to end these crazy protests? I would like to see a couple people from the jack ### crew go head to head with Westboro Baptist Church.

I think Jackass just found the plot for the next movie.

This is exactly what is needed. The jackass guys have the money to write checks for whatever ### kicking they mete out. I hope they beat them senseless. Honestly. I rarely truly wish ill for others, but these ####ers deserve what they get.

72 members? Someone schedule 75 simultaneous services across the nation.

Just because the protestors are ##### doesn't make whoever slashed their tires any less of a #####. Two wrongs don't make a right.
BS. It is right. I don't care what our momma's taught us. They should have slashed their tires, poured sugar in their gas tank, epoxy on the bottom of the accelarator, cut the brakes, and every other trick we have learned from screwball comedies.

I'm all for letting people believe in what they want to believe in. I really don't care who you worship, or what you believe. My one caveat is that you allow others to do the same. Not letting someone mourn the death of their loved ones in the way they choose via protest or other means is just completely unacceptable to me.

I really have no sympathy for the WBC when people do stuff to them. None. Believe whatever you want, but leave others to do the same...if there's a conflict between the two, be respectful of others.

Burn!

Commentary | The hacking collective known as Anonymous renewed their war on the Westboro Baptist Church today. After the haters in the infamous church posted their intentions to picket the funerals of the twenty children killed in the shooting at the Sandy Hook Elementary School, Anonymous responded by re-posting the personal and professional information for members of the church on the internet. Now the general public can contact the church members directly and tell them what they think about people who would desecrate the funerals of murdered children.

Westboro Baptist Church has been irritating Americans for years with venom filled message about their demented version of God. According to the many closely related and intermarried members of the Phelps family who make up the majority of the membership of the so-called church, God enjoys killing children and soldiers. They constantly proclaim God hates homosexuals and plans to destroy America for not following the Westboro Baptist Churches version of Christianity. The incredible obsession with homosexuality expressed by Fred and family seems to many as a sure fire case of “thou dost protest too much.”

Anonymous has been after the Westboro Baptist Church for several months now, hacking their websites repeatedly. At one point, Anonymous accused the church of posting a fake threat from the hacking group. They claimed WBC created the letter in order to trick other hackers into attacking the website so the church could harvest internet addresses and sue people. Suing people is apparently the primary activity of the Westboro Baptist Church when they aren’t screaming hate at funerals.

Of course, Westboro denied the charges and taunted Anonymous as incompetent hackers. They claimed their website was protected by God. Big mistake. A few days later, while a Westboro spokeswoman was boasting about how the church foiled Anonymous on a radio talk show, an Anonymous spokesman called in and hacked the church’s website in real time on the air.

Hopefully saner heads will prevail and nothing terrible will occur if Westboro Baptist Church shows up in Newtown , Connecticut. The State Police made the extraordinary decision to assign a trooper to each of the victim’s families to keep away unwelcome attention and protect their privacy. Hopefully this will give them some small amount of peace in their time of grief and suffering.

It is hard to imagine what kind of person would show up at the funerals for these children and promote the hate filled message of the Phelps family and their followers. While we certainly do not condone illegal activity, it is hard not to root for Anonymous as they take it to these sad, pathetic excuses for human beings from the Westboro Baptist Church. If the Church’s website is offline forever, it wouldn’t be a moment too soon for sane human beings.

People from this church were outside the church I belong to last night protesting, not sure why they want to protest a church in Wisconsin. There ended up being 5 or 6 from their ministry protesting, while there was approximately 150 to 200 people protesting the Westboro members. They are protesting 2 high schools in the area then heading up to Milwaukee to protest outside Marquette. When I Wikipedia searched this church Wikipedia has their church membership at 39 people.
