What are the chances Plummer loses his job? (1 Viewer)

What are the realistic chances J.Plummer loses his job to Cutler this year.

I don't really see it happening this year. As a matter of fact I think Plummer has a nice bounce back game this week.

Any thoughts?

In my semi-dynasty/keeper league, I have the unfortunate situation of having Bledsoe/Plummer. Let's just say I put my chips in the RB/WR bucket.

I am seriously considering dropping one of the two.

I really think Plummer could be benched. If it was a younger less experienced coach, I think he would be on a very short leash. Shannahan is smart enough that he will be patient, but it can only last so long. Denver is ready to compete.

Well, he's getting roasted on the local AM radio today.

But, I'd think he'd need to string together about 4/5 of those stinkers for shanny to do something drastic.

Or maybe even 3 if he's still tossing 0 TDs and 3 picks a game and DEN is losing in spite of running the ball well and playing good D.

The Rams are a really tough home team (21-4 under Bulger) and the Broncos were still in it until the very end.

I think at the end of the day, of course Plummer is going to have to play better, but I also think that he will get it done. This is a team with few weaknesses if Plummer plays up to his potential, and Jake knows that as well as anyone. Anything short of a Super Bowl win and he'll probably be somewhere else next year.

I'd say a 70% chance (this season) he keeps his job barring injury.

Plummer's been a very good, a good, and an excellent QB after three years in Denver. He's not losing his job anytime soon.

As a top AFC contender, I wouldn't think Shanahan would put all this on a rookie's shoulders. He might have outshined in preseason, but during the NFL season, I don't think Shanny wouldn't rely on a rookie to carry the Broncos to the championship. I say Plummer rebounds soon.

He had a horrible Week 1 last year as well and rebounded quite nicely. He'll have to stink it up for several weeks to get benched.

I expect Plummer to bounce back to with ~250-300 yards, 2-3 TDs, 0 INTs against KC this week.

His statline looked bad, but with some help it could have been much better (this is not to say he didn't make some very poor decisions). The entire Denver offense had a meltdown in SL, not just Jake. Had his WRs made a some plays, Jake could easily have had at least 2 TDs, one on a ball that Walker dropped and one on a ball that Todd Devoe misplayed. And then, of course, he most likely would not have made that desperation throw on Denver's last drive which resulted in his third INT. So, we'd be looking at a 300 yard, 2 TD, 1 INT game for Jake, and in all likelihood, a Denver victory.

That said, Plummer will start all season barring injury or early elimination from the playoffs (this will only happen if Jake and the O line continue to play poorly, which I clearly don't expect).

:goodposting: thatguy is correct.

I don't see how they would do it this season unless:

A) They are out of the playoff race, which I don't think will be the case.

B) They do it within the next few weeks. They would want Cutler fully up to speed prior to a playoff push.

The more likely scenario in my mind is that they bring him in for spot series. Then possibly more if one of their games get out of control.

Otherwise, it is live or die with Jake. This would also help them move him next season. if he gets benched this year they lose all bargaining power.

Only if Denver is out of the playoff race or Plummer is hurt would Cutler start. The cliche is "who gives our team the best opportunity to win?" There is no way that Cutler could be the answer to that question over Plummer (unless a Plummer injury). Otherwise, if Denver is out of the race, than they might give Cutler a shot to get ready for the race next year. Shanahan could not legitimately think that their 1st year quarterback can make a push for the playoffs in 2006. Therefore, Plummer is the man.

I think that he is poised for a much improved game at home against Kansas City, this week.

Plummer had one bad game...... The sky is falling ! The sky is falling!

Ease back folks. Plummer had 1 Td and 2 picks in his opening game against Miami last year. He didn't have a 300+ yard and 4TD game until his 8th game of the season whcih came against Philly. The bottom line with Jake is he is high risk, high reward. You just have to choose which games he will break out and take your lumps when he stinks it up.

I honestly think Plummer is a buy low guy right now after having a horrible game.

Well he's certainly not a sell high guy. :)
