what are you a snob about? (1 Viewer)

what are the things that you are an absolute snob about? whether it be ponying up for top of the line steaks, only wearing $100 pairs of silk boxers, or only making your pizza from scratch ingredients right down to your own homegrown vegetables

something that, when you hear the topic come up in conversation you can't help but point out how your way is the right/better/only way

Music Playback. I've got some good gear in a dual 2-channel setup (both analog and digital), and it sounds wonderful.

Not that I can't listen to anyone else's, but I just smile when they go on about their Bose 7.whatever. Yea, it sounds nice, but come over to my house - you'll never want to leave.

Plus the usual food things: beer, coffee, pizza, etc.

I so walk the line on this one. Love me a crappy PBR and will always settle for that if needed. But when it comes to bars / restaurants, I will most certainly frequent one establishment over another based on what I know of their beer list.

Is someone only a snob when they put someone else down for doing something they wouldn't do/eat/drink?

I wouldn't order a Budweiser but I also don't put down people who do.

Probably for me it's just food in general. I don't know how people can still eat fast food like McDonalds. I'd rather eat less of something healthier than eat that garbage.

I can't do the watered down mass market stuff anymore, at all. Maybe it's getting older (I'm 50), but I don't as much as I used to, so when I do, I want good beer.

I'm not even a beer snot and I put people down who order Budweiser.  Mostly mentally put them down, but down they go nonetheless.

I have opinions, even strong ones.  But I realize that they are solely my own.  I've also been dead broke, raised in middle class, and have had money.   So, everything is relative.

So I don't think I'm a snob about anything, but can certainly tell the differences in a lot of areas.

I define snob as 'I won't have/do something if it isn't good enough'

Wine and Beer and Bourbon

Driving Ranges (refuse to hit off fake grass tees)

Grilled meats

Desert (if there's only crappy sheet cake or store bought cookies I'll just pass)

dessert is a great call.  I'm not a snob (per your definition) on the rest.  Although I typically don't waste time at the range.

absolutely

the example i'm thinking of is when you're gearing up for a tailgate or something and you say "i'll pick up the brats and a sausage & cheese tray, you grab the beer" and that person in your crew says "don't get Johnsonville or something ####ty like that.. go to the butcher and get saucisson. and don't be cheap, pick up Humboldt Fog or something nice for the cheese. all that other #### is just processed garbage.  i'll grab a 30 pack of Natty Ice from the 7-11."

Beer

Softball tournaments/teams I'll play on

Golf balls

Restaurants - I've become pretty snobby about not eating at crappy chains (e.g. Chili's, Outback, Olive Garden,* etc.)

*23 year old me wants to punch me in the face

This is good. I'll take a small piece just to be polite, but won't be happy about it.

That especially includes pie. Store bought is usually such a letdown. And half the time when they tell you it's homemade, they used a store bought crust, which usually ruins it for me.

Athletic garb...if it's not Nike or Under Armour I'm not wearing it...sneakers, just Nike...

Can't think of anything I would qualify myself as a snob about, but I am following along to see if any inspiration strikes.

More and more all the time on Beer.

Mountain bikes

Oils / Tranny Fluids / Coolants and any other fluids that go in anything motorized

Chili. 90% of chili is garbage. It doesn't even take that much more effort to make it not suck.
had forgotten about this one

totally agree with you.

we had a chili cookoff at work a couple months ago. 6 chili's. mine (of course  ) and one other were the only ones i'd even have considered chili.  the rest were essentially tomato soup.
