What are you thoughts on these youngsters? (1 Viewer)

Hoping to find out something maybe I don't know about these guys I drafted in a 14-team Points keeper league (keep at minimum 3 minor leaguers each year). I kept Wood this year (and Braun who qualified one last time as a minor league keeper).

Joe Koshansky, 1b, COL - Helton is blocking this guy, but he turns 26 in May. Something is gonna have to give here. Is a trade on the horizon?

Ian Stewart, 3b (2b?), COL - Not sure if they are still thinking about Stewart at 2B now that Nix has all but wrapped up the major league gig this year. Is Nix just holding the position down for part of this year?

Brandon Wood, 3b (ss?), LAA - Seems to have peaked on the prospect lists and fell back on them this year. Hopefully this reverse trends.

Carlos Gomez, of, MIN - Just know that he was part of the Johan trade and was one of the Mets top prospects.

Andrew McCutheon, of, PIT - From what I've read and been told about this guy, he seems to be a poor mans Maybin, with the potential of being better.

Nick Adenhart, sp, LAA - Tough rotation to break, has not pitched above AA ball. Seems like he'll go straight to AAA this year. Is he first in line if Escobar (or anyone else) have injury plauged years?

Joe Savery, sp, PHI - 1st round pick for Phillies in 2007. Fell due to signability from what I understand. Could rocket thru their system. Does he have #2 starter potential?

Knightro...anyone else...info is greatly appreciated.

26 year old 1B prospects that haven't hit the bigs yet aren't really that great, imo. Ryan Shealy comes to mind. In fact, lots of Rockies prospects are overhyped imo. Jayhawk Owens, Chris Iannetta, I dunno, too much hype imo. Of course that being said, I think Ian Stewart should get a chance somewhere. Would love him if he had 2B in the future. Not sure where he's going though. Wood has a chance to be ok I guess. Not very high on him personally. McCutchen is still young and has a chance to be good, and make the majors, as the Pirates are surely not going to keep any outfielders that want to get paid. Gomez should be okay, although I don't think I see any star potential there. Adenhart and Savery I don't know enough about

Joe Koshansky, 1b, COL - Helton is blocking this guy, but he turns 26 in May. Something is gonna have to give here. Is a trade on the horizon? Can only play 1B - Helton's contract is untradeable

Ian Stewart, 3b (2b?), COL - Not sure if they are still thinking about Stewart at 2B now that Nix has all but wrapped up the major league gig this year. Is Nix just holding the position down for part of this year? Can hit, fielding is an issue, and the corners are blocked so 2B is his last chance in Colorado

Brandon Wood, 3b (ss?), LAA - Seems to have peaked on the prospect lists and fell back on them this year. Hopefully this reverse trends. It is going to be 3B, but he just can't make enough contact. 30 HRs could happen, but so could a .245-.250 average

Carlos Gomez, of, MIN - Just know that he was part of the Johan trade and was one of the Mets top prospects. could steal 50 if he can get on first consistently. Not a polished hitter thanks to being rushed by the Mets

Andrew McCutheon, of, PIT - From what I've read and been told about this guy, he seems to be a poor mans Maybin, with the potential of being better. Cutch can't hit for as much power as Maybin but is every bit as fast and is better and getting on base

Nick Adenhart, sp, LAA - Tough rotation to break, has not pitched above AA ball. Seems like he'll go straight to AAA this year. Is he first in line if Escobar (or anyone else) have injury plauged years? Could be up later this year - good future as a #2 or #3

Joe Savery, sp, PHI - 1st round pick for Phillies in 2007. Fell due to signability from what I understand. Could rocket thru their system. Does he have #2 starter potential? Maybe, but he's an injury risk. He's from Rice (who butchers arms) and he's already had shoulder work done.

:lmao: I think he's going to be a solid top of the rotation pitcher in the bigs in a year or so.

I was sorta thinking Koshandky could get dealt, not Helton.

Any chance Brandon Wood plays any SS this year? Figured he'd have a better chance of jumping Aybar for a spot than Figgins.

These are all guys who show up pretty high on prospect lists, but are guys I don't really like (with the exception of Adenhart). I can see why you got them if you were drafting with more knowledgeable owners. Someone might rebound, but none of these guys is an untouchable.

Koshansky - he's a nothing.

Stewart - I drafted him too after his first year. Has never had a big year since. Gets nicked up a bit. I hadn't heard fielding was an issue for him as another poster said. My feeling is the Rox aren't totally sold on Garrett Atkins, meaning if Stewart was really that great, he'd have had more of a chance by now. His star is fading a bit in my book.

Wood - I don't know a lot about him, but I get nervous about guys who have been highly-touted prospects for a long time. See Pie, Felix; Vanbenschoten, Jon; and Burroughs, Sean.

Gomez - I had him too and included him in a trade last year and I'm glad I did too. I'm not a believer that the bat will ever come around. You can't steal first base.

McCutcheon - Another guy who's faded quite a bit. Used to be mentioned along with Maybin, Bruce, and Rasmus. All of those guys are at least a step ahead of Cutch now. I'd probably watch him for another year because the tools are definitely there.

Adenhart - Keep him.

Savery - he's a nothing.

Good luck.

The Angels have been playing Wood at 3B more this spring. He appears ticketed back to Salt Lake because he's been striking out a ton - which has always been his achillies heel.

He had a poor start at Double A last year but he finished strong and I'm not sure if he has "faded" at all. He's still finding his game and at 21 he is probably right on track and the talent is certainly there. He'll be in CF in Pittsburgh pretty soon.

Have to agree here although if you ask Gomez, he'll tell you he can steal 1st. He has a lot of "confidence."

Gonna have to agree with you here, Dr. There's alot of people that think Maybin should be in the minors right now instead of him getting force fed in the majors. What I would like to see out of McCutch is a improving year down at AA-AAA and a Sept callup where he is playing. That will let me know what I have next year when keeper time rolls around.

Thanks for the post.FWIW, I'm one of the more knowledgeable owners in this league and easily one of the better prospect hunters during the season. Most of the best prospects were kept, and others like Price went VERY early in our draft this year. As noted, I kept Wood and Braun as my minors this year. I traded Maybin during the offseason or he would have been kept (I would not have Loney, Martin and Hamels). I'm not in love with all these guys either, but when you have 14-teams drafting/keeping at minimum 7 minor leaguers, I think I did pretty well. I'm very happy with Adenhart and McCutcheon, and if Wood can bring anything to the table, this will be a successful group. What I'll be looking for during the first few months is a nice pitching prospect to add. One other thing, this league does reward us in that we can keep them as a minor leaguer after their rookie season for one year. That's why Braun was even more valuable this year, I kept him as a minor leaguer even though he was a stud on my major league roster last year, and hopefully will be again this year. So if someone like Koshansky, Stewart or Gomez does break thru this year, it will only enhance my team next year (and trading options in the offseason). Having one or two mid-20yr old prospects won't kill me here, it actually could be beneficial. If not, they'll either be dropped or just not kept next year at no major loss. One question, why is Savery a nothing in that organization? He was my last round pick, btw.Feel free to throw out some names of prospects you think would be an improvement here. Thanks again. Always looking for extra tidbits around here.
