What are your favorite Fantasy Rules & Scoring Systems? (1 Viewer)

I have been in a dud league now for 3+ years and it's coming to its inevitable death.

Going to commish a league next year and was wondering what your favorite rules/systems are for your leagues?

Any crazy ideas that your league does to add value?

One thing I am thinking for next year is to have one NCAA keeper. You cannot drop/add NCAA keepers until the offseason. You keep the guy's rights until he becomes an NFL player. You can draft him in the same yearly draft as everyone else. Or if we do an auction draft, I might add $10 to each guy's pool to allow them to pick up that extra NCAA guy.

drop head-to-head playoffs and have a free for all for all the teams that qualify. if you have 4/12 make it, start the team with 4th most points with 0 and everyone else with say, 20 or 30% of the gap between their score and 4th place and then have 2 weeks all-play highest score wins the title. makes it more fair, more dramatic, and much more fun

I like that idea. Takes away the "play everybody who plays Cleveland in week 13" scenarios

Is there a fantasy site that allows this custom format? Or do you just calculate yourselves.

I've always wanted to have fantasy points adjusted for the actual team's win or loss. So, if the player's NFL team wins, then you get 100% of his fantasy points for that week. If the player's NFL team loses, then you only get, say, 90% of the fantasy points. Or, add 10% for a victory, and 100% of points for loss.

calculate yourself. not hard really just add some points in before the week starts and then people just have to look at the top 3 matchups and compare their team to those 5 instead of just 1

I play in IDP leagues that have the scoring pretty well balanced so you can build your teams in more ways that one. If you want to concentrate on a strong defense at the expense of you offense, so be it. definitely my favorite leagues to play in.

I like that too...

We added -5 for a pick 6 this year, like this one.

we have a starting lineup of 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 K, 1D/ST and 1 Super Flex of ANY position.

scoring gives 6 points for all TD's and the following:

QB- .04 per yard passing, .01 completion, - .01 in completion, -2 INT and bonus of 5 for 300, 400, 500 passing yards

QB/RB- .25 carry .01 per rush/receive, 1 PPR 5 point bonus for 100 rush or receive, 200 same, 300 same

WR- same as RB except 1.5 PPR.

TE- same but 2 PPR

D/ST also get major scoring which has to make them more than an after thought.

Makes for a real fun draft.

Start a 2nd QB via a QB/RB flex.

Add a 2nd TE to the starting lineup.

Add a flex WR/TE.

Staggered PPR (.25 RB, .5 WR, 1.0 TE) so it helps TE value.

Head coach (gets points for his team winning and for margin of victory. Prefer to do it as a team head coach rather than named player so you don't have to pick up Arians when Pagano goes in the hospital... on MFL we used "Team Offense" which has margin of victory as a possible stat).

Punter - works great, lends itself well to prediction if you can predict which NFL teams will have bad offenses, or be shut down in a game by a defense. Points just for gross yards... resist giving for inside the 20 as that will make them less predictable.

Draft order for bottom teams based on combination of potential points in regular season and on consolation playoff bracket result. Basically we use 2 * seeding plus a number of points for playoff finish (8 for winning bracket, 6, 4, 2, 1, 0 for last place in bracket).

Rather than assigning draft order, use order from above to let teams select their draft spot from unclaimed spots. Typically our SB teams pick 9th and 10th as those have been the least desired picks almost every year.

Triple headers so schedule is less of a factor in results. With a 12 team league, 3 divisions you can have every week 1 game against your division and 2 games out of division. 12 week season, end up playing division 4 times and out of division teams 3 times each. Then playoffs weeks 13-15, done before NFL teams rest starters.

I've never tried tripleheaders (sounds like a logistical challenge), but as I posted in the thread linked upstream, I'm a big fan of doubleheaders. The "fairest" league I ever played in was a 9-teamer that drafted the Tuesday after the Week 1 games and played doubleheaders each week from Weeks 2-13 (so each team played every other team three times).

In particular I love the concept of drafting after the first week's worth of games - even more so these days, as coaches are so reluctant to tip their hands before the season starts that evaluating FF value on the basis of the preseason has become almost a useless exercise.

One of our new ideas which has been entertaining so far is a 4 man practice squad (currently only RBs, WRs and TEs). Not part of our 18 man roster. You reserve the right to bring any of these guys onto your team by Wednesday at 6:00pm for the transaction fee. For this year, you only get 4 guys and cannot replenish the roster. So you get 4 shots at a gem that can make you $.

After Wed. if someone bids on one of your practice squad guys, you get all the $ bid on that player (plus a set fee that you are guaranteed to get). The transaction fee not included. The transaction fee for these moves goes towards the payout for playoff teams.

Cashed in on Boykin, got some nibbles on my Blount bait :fishy: but couldn't reel hook the fish.

It was a little bit of work to set up the first time, though FFLM has some nice tools to help with that.

Though for anyone interested, you can reap the benefits of my labor and just import my schedule if you're using MFL. Here's what you'd cut and paste into the commissioner's import schedule window:
