What are your TOP 5 ALBUMS released during your senior year in High School? (1 Viewer)

Zodiac Mindwarp - Tattooed Beat Meesiah

Holy ****. Blast from the past. I remember this guy. He was like Turbonegro wound up being, but they were really Scandinavian nihilists who were gay as hell. Zodiac just sort of played the role. A dirtier, sleazier, '80s David Johansen acolyte.
The bolded sounds like an early draft of The Big Lebowski.

Summer of '88 to summer of '89 for me.

Five favorite albums that I owned or was very familiar with during senior year:

Nothing's Shocking -- Jane's Addiction

Traveling Wilburys Vol. 1

Full Moon Fever -- Tom Petty

Rattle and Hum -- U2

Nearly Human -- Todd Rundgren

Five favorite albums that were released during this time but I didn't hear of/listen to until college:

Bleach -- Nirvana

Buzz Factory -- Screaming Trees

Shine -- Mother Love Bone

The Stone Roses -- s/t

Junta -- Phish

The year was 1975
Not in any specific order

Elton John - Captain fantastic and the brown dirt cowboy

Pink Floyd - Wish you were here

Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti

Aerosmith - Toys in the attic

Fleetwood Mac

Eagles - One of these Nights

Lynyrd Skynyrd - Nuthin' Fancy

Earth, Wind and Fire - That's the way of the World
This pretty much nails what was being played on my local rock stations. At least the hits off of each.

Let's start with one that just missed the cut:

AC/DC - Back in Black Unfortunately this came out just a little early, July 25, 1980

And now, the 5 top albums (IMHO) from senior year, class of '81

Talking Heads - Remain in Light October 8, 1980
Dire Straits - Making Movies October 17, 1980
The Jam - Sound Affects November 28, 1980
The Clash - Sandinista! December 12, 1980
Phil Collins - Face Value January 1, 1981

Seems like all of the good stuff in 1981 came out after high school graduation.

Rage Against the Machine - s/t
Alice in Chains - Dirt
Nine Inch Nails - Broken
Primus - Pork Soda

The summer before Senior year was loaded for me: Angel Dust, Psalm 69, Helmet, Countdown to Extinction, and Kyuss.

Final year in high school was 78/79.

Led Zeppelin - In Through The Out Door
Pink Floyd - The Wall
Van Halen - Van Halen
Queen - Jazz
The Cars - The Cars
I saw The Cars at The Great Miami River Festival in 1978. Rained hard briefly, then it was great.

The Great Miami River Festival in 1978 was held at Edgewater Sports Park in Cleves, Ohio on August 27th. It featured performances by The Beach Boys, The Cars, Blue Öyster Cult,Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, and Starcastle.

One thing left off was an appearance by Jan and Dean. Odd collection. This was before Nitty Gritty Dirt Band turned into all country.

1988 - 1989

"Disintegration", The Cure ... one of the best albums ever.
"Pauls Boutique", Beastie Boys
"Full Moon Fever", Tom Petty ... Free Falling is a forever tune.
"Straight Outta Compton", NWA
"On Fire ", Galaxie 500 ... Dean Wareham is one of my favorite song writers. His stuff in Galaxie is good, his stuff in Luna is awesome
@landrys hat is doing a countdown of Luna songs in this thread: https://forums.footballguys.com/thr...ound-5-5s-have-been-posted-link-in-op.816008/

Judas Priest, 'Turbo'
Tesla, 'Mechanical Resonance'
Cinderella, 'Night Songs'
Ozzy Osbourne, 'The Ultimate Sin'
Van Halen, '5150'

So many more in '86 that would make the list
Master of puppets, look what the cat dragged in, slippery when wet, etc.

8th grade was the best three years of my life

LOL. Then this cat.

At the time, I was mostly listening to older stuff - mainly 60s and early 70s - but of the albums released at the time, these were the ones I most listened to:

  1. Back in the High Life - Steve Winwood = I was digging his early work when this came out.

  2. Graceland - Paul Simon = My pop bought this and turned me on to it.

  3. True Stories - Talking Heads = I got into this after watching Stop Making Sense

  4. Licensed to Ill - Beastie Boys = This was our cruising track.

  5. Appetite for Destruction - Guns N' Roses = Wow. Just wow. I was really was blown away when this came out
Oh - bonus:

  • Control - Janet Jackson = This was my gf's fav. I heard it a whole lot.

Miss them all dearly, two departed from this blue rock, one is probably kicking it in NYC somewhere, I hope, having coffee with his daughter.

One album that I discovered from '94 after the fact, is Acid Bath's, When the Kite String Pops. Really good.

Also, Nirvanas Unplugged probably shoulda made my list

Also, The Crow Soundtrack......best movie soundtrack ever? Maybe .....

Second half 2009, first half 2010

Definitely an era more marked by singles than albums to me.

1. Mumford & Sons - Sign No More
2. Kesha - Animal
3. Luke Bryan - Doin My Thing
4. B.o.B. - B.o.B. Presents: The Adventures of Bobby Ray
5. Shakira - She Wolf

Honorable Mentions

Lady Antebellum - Need You Now
Cascada - Evacuate the Dancefloor
LMFAO - Party Rock
Boys Like Girls - LoveDrunk
Miranda Lambert - Revolution

These landed later in 2010 but would easily make top 5 :(

Katy Perry - Teenage Dream
Taylor Swift - Speak Now

Honorable Mentions
Bruno Mars - Doo-Wops & Hooligans
Rihanna - Loud

Sept 84 to June 85

The Warning – Queensryche (hooked when I saw Take Hold of the Flame video on USA Night Flight)
