What do you do with owners like this? (1 Viewer)

1 or 2 owners in my dynasty league usually don't even answer emails about trades, even good ones. This last time I proposed a really sweet one to the guy, and he has been 'mulling it over' for weeks, despite my repeated request for some kind of answer or counter offer.

Do you take the hard road and tell him that if he wants to trade with you down the road that he better step it up a bit, or do you take him where he's at in order to not sever the relationship?

I'm stumpted.

Usually someone that does that isn't really interested in the offer. I just move on. If it's a chronic thing where they don't respond back to trade offers at all, i'd look to replace them in the offseason.

Agreed - it's tough dealing with some owners that don't respond, as it reduces the number of potential trading parties.

But it's just something one has to deal with with and move on.

I have the same problem......I will offer a trade and if I know that the other party has had an opportunity to view it and think about it and he does not accept or decline I will revoke it....I may leave it up longer if I really want to make the trade.

We have several owners like this in one dynasty league I'm in. The off-season for them is well, off. They don't come to the site, they don't respond to trade-offers. Nothing. Out of 14 teams, it's like 4 of them. Not only that, they won't do much during the year other than set their lineups.

I'm generally fine with this. So much changes in the offseason and there's so much time between now and the start of the season that I am never in a hurry to make trades as I have seen some deals go spectacularily and others blow up in someone's face.

If it really bothers you, revoke the trade and tell the guy if he ever decides he's interested to contact you.

Add "I should also probably tell you that I'm working on another trade involving playerX too"

IF he wants him bad enough this will speed it up

I just think it is bad forum not to reply to a trade offer....but there is really nothing you can do but revoke your offer and move on.

 I hate it when u offer trades and they just sit there. Or u email the owner with no response. And then u come on fbg and he is right there posting.... :lmao:

Nothing worse than being extremely active in a league full of stiffs, when they finally do answer they counter with a complete rip off

i just had to boot somebody for this reason. two years of never responding to trades (or posting on the mesage board). it pretty much means that all the players on his team are locked and it makes the league a little less fun. we replaced him with a great owner and this has been by far this leagues most active offseason. sucks to kick someone out (especially if its a friend) but sometimes you gotta for the sake of the league.

I was thinking about this and I wonder why you are fine with someone ignoring trade offers? If a person sees an offer he can accept or decline. Why would someone just not respond? If you think that a trade might blow up in your face then decline it....what does not responding do?I guess some people are just incapable of making decisions!

I read an article on trading a while back that suggested not replying to trade offers as a ploy to get the offering owner to submit a counter offer thats better to his first offer. While this ploy may hold some merit, I think that its negitives outway its positives. Another reason an owner may not respond is that they are tired of responding to obviously lopsided offers and are now just ignoring the noise. If you have a reputation as a scalper it can be very hard to live that down. Another reason that they may not respond is that they never read the message for some reason. Accidentally deleted, or filtered out. This happend last year when I sent my commish an offer for Rod Smith. It was out of character for him not to respond and I knew this. The thing is I find that getting a deal done usually takes alot of effort.

I agree that activity makes leagues alot more fun. I wish the owners in one league im in would even trade at all. In 5 years I think we have had only 2 or 3 draft picks traded.

That is what I hate. If he wants to trade that is fine. If he doesn't that is fine too. But is is just plain rude to not take 15 seconds to reply to the offer with a "not interested". At least you know that they actually received the email. Those guys go on my list of owners not to do business with unless they make an offer that is very, very good for my team.

I was speaking more from the side of if I had offered the trade and didn't get a response. Not everyone lives and breathes fantasy all year long and I understand if I don't get a response for awhile. I generally just note it for future reference that the owner in question isn't that active.

I would understand that too...but if you are in a league that stressed that it was a year round dynasty league then you would think that owners that sign up for it are year round players. My biggest problem is when I see that an owner has logged onto the site several times and still ignored the trade offers.

We have activity rules in some of my leagues. If an owner continually ignores trade offers and emails, he will be removed from the league. You don't have to trade and you don't have to make offers, but you have to have the common courtesy of at least responding to communications. A simple "no thanks" isn't hard to do.

It really depends on whether it is a chronic thing or an occasional thing. A lot of times I'll get an offer for a guy that I don't have on any of my fantasy teams, or a guy that I never really considered a good fit for my team. Sometimes I'll want to mull it over.

Sometimes I'll be busy with other things in my life and not get back to the guy for a while.

On other occassions I am on the league site every day sending offers and engaging in live chat to try to get a deal done.

If it is a chronic thing you either accept it as is or ask the commish to approach him about leaving the league if you want a league with everyone active.

You accept it, move on and offer trades to a different team.

We have a few managers in my Dynasty League that will not trade directly with certain teams, so that they do not help a team they despise win.

But I have been able to maneuver trades through other teams by doing some depth research and offer a trade to Team A, knowing that Team B (who I actually want to trade with) will offer a trade to Team A. Allowing me to then come back with a counter trade to get who I wanted.

Granted it's not as easy as a one on one trade with the actual team. But this happens even in the NFL.

Teams don't directly trade to teams in their division most of the time, but they ship the player out of the division/conference, only to then have that team deal him to the rival regardless.

All in all, it does not make for easy trades that work in your favor, but as with true team management, you sometimes have to give up something good in order to then have it come back to you on the rebound.

I just emailed an owner who is sluggish like this and told him that I would have hoped he could have responded to my offer, and that I wish him well.

Hope he got the "I don't like dealing with you" vibe I was putting out. :goodposting:

Maybe I should have told him that I hope he is forced to eat his own poo, but I'm trying to keep it classy, ya know?
