What does elite mean to you? (1 Viewer)

It's a subjective term. You're not going to get an answer you like, and likely won't get one you agree with. If you're looking for some sort of fact/stat based catch all definition, let me know if you find it because I'll go get rich gambling.

For me, "elite" in fantasy is a sliding scale dependent on value over replacement. Ceiling and consistency and positional scarcity are also important factors.

It's hilarious that this conversation started with me unwilling to say Kirk Cousins is elite.

This is my last post on the subject, it will not be a fruitful one.

Difference makers in FF, and strong HoF contenders.

Players you’re almost guaranteed to start all year barring injury. The guys you know while drafting that you’re set, health permitting. TE that’s Kelce and Andrew’s, Hock is almost there or maybe he is. Kittle isn’t although he should be. QB has a few, Burrow would be but for his leg. There’s a group we’ll all say are elite, a larger group we would debate and like 90% of our teams are not.

Don't bother with him dude. He was my first cat fight on the boards. He called me a troll. Guys like that u gotta play by his rules or he says u you burn down orphanages.

Back to "elite" I like the discussion

I’m definitely not angling for a conflict. Simply looking to understand what people mean when they say something that isn’t clear to me.

Good to have you in this discussion. It actually was @Jacob's Ladder idea so I took them up on it.

For me there are three people playing fantasy positions right now who are elite. Travis Kelsey, Christian McCaffrey, and Justin Jefferson. IMHO an elite player is someone who is clearly better than everyone else at his position, and is almost surely a Hall of Famer.

Mahomes?

So for you, there is only one elite at each position. Everyone fighting for that one spot. I like it. Kinda like a thunderdome battle to be that guy.

maybe its just as simple as someone u see has a Hall of Fame lock

strong HoF contenders.

Is that just yards and touchdowns? What else?
What does being in the HOF have to do with Fantasy Production? Aaron Rodgers is a HOF lock, but would you have called him (save the injury jokes) an ELITE fantasy QB going into the season?

Of course it's just Yards and Touchdowns (and lack of ints, or any other way your league gives/takes away fantasy points).

The question was literally about FANTASY FOOTBALL ELITE... so it's about Fantasy Points scored.

The big 3 QBs will prove to be elite when all is said and done. Dallas D has been elite. McCaffrey, Jefferson for sure. Diggs. Hill. RB’s have been tougher the past several years. Maybe Ek when he comes back. CMC is the cheat code this year

I don't think you can put an exact number on it saying something like the top 3 to 5 players at a position are elite, but it typically ends up to be about that many. A guy that clearly separates himself from the rest when it comes to scoring is elite. It's that simple. CMC is elite. JJ is elite. Kelce is elite! A guy like Cooper Kupp when healthy. The players I'd call elite right now are at QB - Mahomes, Allen, Hurts (Lamar Jackson could be again) RB: CMC, Ekeler (Possibly Achane & Kyren too early to say) WR: Jefferson, Hill, Kupp when healthy, (maybe Diggs) TE: Kelce I usually don't count D/ST here because they are so fluky, but Dallas is looking exceptional right now

Next tier guys (minor elites) are people like QB: Herbert & Tua, RB: Pollard, Saquon & Bijon, WR: K Allen, D Adams

After that QB: Fields, Cousins RB: K Walker, D. Henry, J Cook, WR: AJ Brown, Amon-Ra St Brown, Nico Collins

Rankings are all a matter of opinion on what you think a player is going to do going forward. This is how I see it right now, but chances are I'll see things differently in a few weeks. The point is I think almost everyone would agree with the 3 QB's, 2 RB's, 3 WR's, 1 TE, & 1 D that I consider no doubt elites. If you have to debate it, then they're not

In all honesty I was answering the title. But even in just FF, Rodgers has been elite for a dynasty during his prime. Not usually a top 3 guy but you could plug him in for over a decade.

ARodgers was unquestionably elite for many years of his career. Top 1-2 in FF points for a QB in numerous seasons.

Of course he WAS elite.

He is NOT currently elite. HOF has nothing to do with it, I wouldn't call Rodgers an Elite fantasy QB right now.

Elite to me means you have a unique combination of traits (not only physical) that allows you to perform at a top percentile level consistently.

Elite: Mahomes, McCaffery, Jefferson, Hill, Kelce, Adams, Chase, Ekeler, Ghost of Kupp

Sub-Elite: Allen, Hurts, Diggs, LJax, Herburrow, ARSB

Contenders: Achane, Hall, Olave, ARich, Stroud, Nakua, Wilson, Purdy

Not Elite: Kirkland Cousins

For redraft its top players by VBD. So johnathan Taylor was elite in his #1 season. I think Eckler was that year as well, everyone else not.

In dynasty I would say a player who is able to have multiple top VBD seasons which works out to be about 400 career VBD.
