Auction-draft format. We draft players against a $290 salary cap, with 23 roster spots. There is no bench, so EVERYBODY plays, which means that if you take a shot on a sleeper and miss, you'll suffer for it. Everyone in the league misses on at least a couple guys. Magnifying that, we only get one waiver move per month
Went with a studs and duds strategy this year (ool) and took the best outfield I could get. Adam Kennedy and Omar Vizquel were my last two picks, and I took them for base stealing, not upside. I could replace each of them midyear. I took Halladay and Kazmir to give me a lot of innings with good ERA and WHIP, Papelbon because he was cheaper when listed as a starter than most closers who went from $18 to $33, and then grabbed a bunch of supercheap pitchers who are young and get 100+ strikeouts. Lester was a flier for cheap wins and because there's a rule that you can pick up an injury replacement a week into the season and get the guy's stats retroactive to day one.
I have one pick left, and I can make it any time in the next couple days. I have $5 left that can be spent on a utility player at any position - starting pitcher, reliever, outfielder, infielder, doesn't matter. It won't be a good player, but I could go after a guy who is decent in a bunch of categories or a guy who is strong in one. Whoever I pick, I probably won't be able to replace him until June.
So, what does my team need?
