Have you taken the two or three minutes to put the rocks back in place yet?
after he files the insurance claims and police report
Was seriously waiting on the insurance thing.

I first laughed at the notion of calling the cops. My dad suggested it and then did Righetti independently. The argument was no harm in documenting it, and maybe it's something that has been going on in the neighborhood and would be good for them to know. Then my wife mentioned she started to wonder about creeps out front stalking our house, and that basically was the last straw.

Believe me, I felt awfully wimpy making that phone call. But I was glad I didn't have to be there when the cops rolled up to look at it and discuss with my wife.

New potential theory:

Old owners moved a few blocks away. Hey had high school and college aged kids. One of them came back to dig up something they had stashed in there years earlier.

Can't disturb the crime scene
I haven't yet. Should I just pile them up? I guess I've documented with enough pics. And I just remembered the deductible on our insurance is $2,500. I doubt this would cost more than a couple hundred bucks for a pro to fix.
Hopefully the cops are making progress finding the perps of this heinous act.

Did you change all the locks? Cause Jr. just dug up the emergency key.

You called the ####### cops? That's insane.

Any promising leads? Maybe they're going to check with the guys at the crime lab?

Ok, you called the cops and the wife feels better. Good man.

Now, hit the refresh button, run out there and fix the rocks, and the page should almost be reloaded by the time you get back.

An insurance claim?

I checked this out on my way in tonight. It's a mess. Those stones are heavy. At least a 30min job to do this right, maybe more.

30 minutes and you said engineered a few posts up? What sort of lame shtick is this? You used to be somewhat good but now you're just pathetic.

Did he seriously call the police over this?
100%

Reluctantly.
Can't imagine why the neighborhood kids feel like screwing with your rock garden.

Any ideas, Columbo?
Can you imagine their amusement as they're watching a confused Otis just standing there, confused, contemplating what happened, how it happened, why it happened, which police number to call, who to call to fix this disaster.....

I wonder if it looked like this

Well, by all means, get angry about it.

Are you kidding...it's laughable. A professional man either called the cops about a few rocks falling down or made it up as shtick on an Internet message board. So what it is?

I never lie on the internet. :confirmed:

So have you gotten a call from the night shift? Thinking the crime lab may be a little backlogged but I'm sure they put a rush on the prints.

With a raised bed around a tree like that I'm thinking it's only a matter of time before the tree rots at the bottom and falls on the house.

I think your wife got sick of the look of it, tore it apart a bit, broke a nail or decided she was in over her head, and left it for you to try to figure out.

The dirt looks like it hasn't been disturbed so that would eliminate animals and I would think lightning.

My guess would be teens or just out of high school types. Messing around. Probably drunk or bored since school is out. Probably were walking or sitting on it and found some of the rocks were loose or they collapsed. So then they started tearing it up. Surprised they didn't kick the crap out of your light.

I think you should definitely set a camera up and try to catch them and have legal recourse against future actions.

Nothing wrong with a little surveillance. Especially if you're trying to stay somewhere for the next 5 years.

The fact that IRL Oats is a big **** swinging New York patent attorney mystifies me sometimes.

Regardless, Oats iRulz.
this is the true mystery.

to put them back, just figure out how they were laid before. tweak as needed. you might even burn off a few coronitas

and 99% it was stupid kids

What is there to fix exactly?
The rocks have to be stacked back up, mortared, whatever. Look, I'm no engineer.
Why do you need mortar for a single ring of rocks?
Dude, those rocks are big and heavy. It's two feet tall and supporting a bunch of dirt in that planting bed. If this isn't done right, they'll be slipping off all the time, and all the work I put in planting flowers or some other nonsense in there will be for naught.

Maybe they were just stacked. I'll have to look again.

I've considered a security camera out front. Except who the hell wants to mess with old dirty rocks, which are basically the only thing out in front of my house.

I know. You just finished listening to the Smashing Pumpkins and were so incensed by Billy's voice that you went into a blind rage and smashed your wall.
