The downside would be having to jump back and forth constantly between two forums to be able to read the football related topics that are now found all in one place.
And they would probably have to add a full time moderator to the staff just to move the football related threads that should not be on "fantasy talk only" board and vice versa.
I don't see why everyone else should be inconvenienced because a handful of people can't take a few seconds to skip a few thread topics.
It's not just a few thread topics.
It seems like at least half of the topics are worthless drivel. And this contributes to the overall atmosphere here. It's hard to get quality dialogues going when the forum is smattered with this crap. You think information driven people are going to want to wade through these trivial topics? You think they want to converse with the people who are interested in these topics? It's like saying all printed news should go in one place and it wouldn't detract from the experience. Can you imagine the wall street journal being combined with a tabloid? Just tell people to skip over what they don't like.

So while it may inconvenience people like you who are interested in both forums, it would still improve your experience as the fantasy football forum would actually be a much better resource than the SP is now. And the gibberish forum would have less people looking down on the asinine topics and conversations that go on in it.
I get that you believe that half these topics are worthless drivel...
to you. But they aren't worthless to everyone. If they were worthless to everyone, they'd fall off of the first and second page so fast, that they wouldn't be a problem to begin with. I don't think you understand that sorting out what you constitute as fantasy related and non-fantasy related isn't as black and white as it seems. Every bit of football news, be it speculative or informative, can be fantasy related. Therefore, it all belongs in the Shark Pool. And comparing that to all news is just a horrible analogy. I don't step into the pool very much anymore, but I thought I'd put in my
I stand behind the analogy because there is definitely fantasy related news and there is tabloid style news. This is not a great example (since it's a fairly serious topic), but the Junior Seau news is fantasy irrelevant. It's a topic that is worth discussing, I suppose, but it doesn't belong side by side with fantasy topics. Other examples are definitely not black and white, but at least weeding out the totally trivial stuff would help. And merging threads would help. I should also point out that it's not just news I'm talking about. Most of the topics I refer to as drivel are not even news related (they'd be opinion pieces in a tabloid, I guess). There are threads like "worst coaching decision in the playoffs" and "is Tebow getting a fair shot?" threads that just would not belong in a fantasy football forum. They are obviously fair game right now which is why I think separate Football FFA and SP forums would be beneficial. Also, of course some of these topics that are worthless to me have value to others, but their value is purely social. People feel the need to chat about rather trivial subjects to achieve connection with others. That's fine, but just keep it separate for those of us who don't need that.
You think information driven people are going to want to wade through these trivial topics? You think they want to converse with the people who are interested in these topics?
If all the "information driven people" are somewhere else, find out where that place is and become a member there. It's probably bubbling over with exactly the kinds of things you want to talk about and none of the things you don't want to talk about.
I don't think they're posting somewhere else. I'm sure they're out there, but turned off by congested, watered down forums. That's why I think reform is in order. If you build it, they will come...
