What have we learned thru Week 5 (1 Viewer)

I know all the analysts say how great it is that any team can win any week and blah blah blah but I think it sucks. Are there any really good teams in the NFL right now? Not really. I mean compared to the other teams in the league there are, but there's nobody who is a historically strong squad this season at all. I long for the days where the Niners and Cowboys were really good every year and you knew that when they played in Week 11 or so, that was a HUGE game. Even a few years ago with the Colts and Pats, you knew those were going to be huge games. This year, the Chiefs have the best record in the NFL and their QB can't complete a 9 yard out. As for fantasy, it doesn't even pay to know your stuff anymore. The only people who are good now luck into it or pluck someone off the waiver wire first and ride them to a title. Who the hell saw Brandon Lloyd coming? Nobody, I don't care what you say. I just like when the NFL had some money in the bank teams, not the defending Super Bowl champs losing to the Cardinals with a rookie QB making his first start under center.

Really gotta say all I've learned is that I'm glad Torain and Santana Moss play for WAS, or they'd probably be hurt too. Andre Johnson, then Vick and McCoy, then Finley and Rodgers, that team has singlehandedly obliterated some of my best weapons in 2 leagues...

Saints are horrible right now....NO running game and just got beat by Arizona's Defense. Spread the ball far too much for my liking....sell Colston if you can find a takers. COuld easily be on a 3 game slide right now
FIXED.Let's not give Max Hall the credit. Arizona scored on two fumble returns and an interception return. They are the second team in history to score 30 or more points in a game without a rushing TD or a passing TD. (I learned that today).

edit to add: The Bears on 12/5/1993 were the other team. http://www.pro-football-reference.com/boxs...99312050chi.htm

Does it seem there are more interceptions thrown this year? Week 5 seemed like a ton were thrown.
I haven't noticed interceptions but it seems to me that most offensive lines aren't playing up to expectations. The NFC East teams especially.

I've learned the Eagles are going to finish 8-8. 8-0 on the road, 0-8 at home.

Just kidding, but I thought all along this team was anywhere from 6-10 to 10-6. I think they're still in that mix but the NFC East looks winnable, even at 9-7.

Then make a blog instead of posting in a forum.
Ruh roh....big bad Ced Ben fan runs to the rescue....hey bud, guess what, I think you suck and will finish outside RB2 or low RB2 when it's all said and done. The Bungles were the most overrated/overhyped team in the pre-season and now we're seeing why.....can run tha ball consistently, have two primadonnas out wide and a QB that has a noodle arm...guess ehat, spells disaster for Ced Ben IMO!!!!! Is that a blog ;)
I don't recall having any horse in this race. This is the trash we don't need in the SP.
i think he was referring to your usrname Benson WLTW  welcome to denver NT.
I'm well aware. But I made this username when Cedric got drafted by the Bears and was excited b/c he fit their offense perfectly. Thought he would take them to the next level.....not b/c I'm a huge Benson fan.

Lorenzo Alexander can play outside linebacker.

Brian Orakpo is very good.

Laron Landry is finally in the right defensive scheme.

The Redskins really hit.

I think we'll see a large termination of coaches this year. Fox, Del Rio and Wade Phillips top the list. I think we'll see our first firing within the next three weeks. Others that I think could lose their jobs are Marvin Lewis, Coughlin, Fisher, Singletary, Lovie or Martz, Gailey, Spurano, Mangini, Spagnola, Cable,Childress and McDaniels this all depending on how the season plays out for them. Norv Turner should be gone but he's too much of a "yes man" to AJ to get fired yet.

lol at saying this is progressing poorly for benson. palmer being a huge liability is good for benson. hes gonna get 25 carries a game until he gets hurt. just make sure you have bernard on your bench and your ff team will have nice production the rest of the way.
Well considering we're over a 1/4 of the way thru the year and he's carried the rock over 25x times once thru 5 games I'm not sure I'm following you :deadhorse: His carries thus far.... 15,23,27,15 and 23 for an average of 20.6

I agree you need Scott as a cuff moving forward and maybe I personally am a little harsh on Ced Ben but hey, that's what we're here for.

T.O may not be a problem right now cause he's catching everything in sight but history shows us that Ocho Cinco is not going to be quiet for long, especially with the club losing and him not getting the ball....

If someone is getting fired within the next 3 weeks, it isn't going to be Del Rio. Even if he loses all 3 of their next games to Tennessee, Kansas City, and Dallas and sit at 3-5 going into their bye, they won't fire Del Rio. Even at 3-5, the Jags wouldn't be out of the playoff picture because nobody is going to run away with the AFC South. If Del Rio is going to lose his job, it won't be until after the season is over.Doesn't McDaniels get a pass on his job security until Tebow turns out to be a bust?

I've learned that Drew Brees is killing one of my fantasy teams.

And I've learned that just when you think you can count on Peyton Manning to give you a consistent 25-30 points, he puts up a clunker.

I think the Steelers have a chance to be that team once Ben gets back.

Aye, yes, because if it isn't literal and linear, how could anyone expect you to follow along.Let's try this:

Cedric Benson is second in the league in rushing attempts, and that is unlikely to change in the foreseeable future. That is what we have learned through five weeks.

I'm no Chargers fan...but I watch every game and I must say that this squad is impressive and is the ultimate buy-low right now from an overall team W/L perspective. The fundamental stats are strongly in their favor. The defense flies to the ball, the offense can move the ball at will. It's been the special teams nightmares and redzone turnovers that have killed them....and somehow they still come close to winning. They out-gain everyone.

Fisher does not belong on this list; otherwise it's good. Tenn is playing good ball and has no better than average NFL talent on their roster. Fisher has strong support from the fans and most importantly, the owner. He will be there until he needs a break from coaching.

Ya you're right Fisher probably shouldn't be and it's more than a stretch to put him on the lisst. The Titans would have to totally implode for him to get fired. Plus that win on sunday has to be one of Bud Adams favorite wins. The only way Del Rio makes it through the season is if Jacksonville wants to lose it's remaining fan base, so to make it easier to move to LA.

Rams seem to me, that they are headed in the right direction. Don't think they'd give up on Spagnola yet.

One quick thought on every team:

NE- This team is gonna have to pass a ton to stay with other teams until their young defense develops. Hernandez should finish top 10 TE.

MIA- Schedule is too tough. Only fantasy value is Marshall IMO

NYJ- RBBC, WRBC, Sanchez looks good but defense will get better leading to less passing. IMO sell high on any of the WRs or Sanchez.

BUF- I wouldnt sleep on Fred Jackson. I know this team is terrible but hes a hard runner and is a solid RB3 IMO

CLE- Injuries to both QBs kills Hillis' value IMO. Otherwise he is a low end RB1. Their OLine is too good and he gets all the touches. Whats not to like? If he was black everyone would love him.

PIT- I dont think Big Ben is gonna be the fantasy stud many people think. Their defense is too good. He should still have a nice amount of TDs.

BAL- Flacco is not a fantasy worthy QB. Hes a high end QB2. Their def is too good and their running game too good for Flacco to ever get into many shootouts.

CIN- Palmer is terrible. Benson is solid but all his value is relying on TDs since he doesnt catch many passes and with a bad QB I worry about his outlook.

IND- Garcon will still get his. Buy low. Manning targets him a ton.

TEN- Dont sleep on Britt. Hes really talented and a great red zone threat. Play the matchups with him as your WR3.

HOU- Wow this pass defense is bad. Start your QBs, WRs, & TEs against them. Sit your RBs

JAX- Garrard 30+ pts 2 weeks in a row? Whats going on here? Id still like to see Garrard with some passing weapons. Jax really screwed the pooch here cuz I think Garrard is more talented than people give him credit for. Also, pass defense is horrible. See above

SD- Man their ST is bad. Rivers is an absolute stud. I would only want Manning over him. Floyd is a high end WR2

KC- Their defense is for real. Buy low on Charles. The schedule is a joke and they should be in every game

OAK- IMO will be a RBBC when DMac comes back. Its a shame he got hurt.

DEN- What a stud Orton is. Must start every week. This team can pass on anyone. I still dont understand how Lloyd became a stud.

DAL- mistake after mistake. what a disaster. Still tons of great fantasy options. Dont get caught up in the Felix hype. Id sell high. Hes very talented but hes also very injury prone and this team passes too much.

WAS- Their offense is well below average. No running game whatsoever.

PHI- McCoy looks like the real deal. He'll get even better when Vick returns. Kolb didnt impress me last night

NYG- Bradshaw is a stud. Keep plugging him in at RB2 and be happy with the #s. Hakeem Nicks is a WR1

MIN- Favre gets a big bump in value with addition of Moss. So does Harvin

CHI- Forte owners. Get used to his 2 pts games followed by his 30 pts games. Their OLine is absolutely horrible.

GB- yikes. What a fall this offense has taken due to all the injuries. Id buy low on Jennings with Finley's injury but dont expect miracles.

DET- Who needs Stafford? Hill has been more than good at QB. Calvin is a stud low end WR1.

NO- No running game, bad OLine, gimpy Brees?, Super Bowl hangover? I wouldnt worry too much buy low on Colston & Brees they'll be fine. Way too much RBBC for me to feel comfortable with PT as anything more than a RB2

TB- Mike Williams is an every week must start.

CAR- Sell whatever you can. Deangelo is nothing more than a RB3 and Stewart is WW fodder. With horrible QB play and absolutely no threat of a passing game due to crappy WRs I want no part of those two talented RBs.

ATL- Ryan will never be a fantasy stud. Turner is boring but still a solid RB1.

SF- Gore isnt even having a good year yet and still having a good one fantasy wise. High end RB1. Crabtree still has to show me more before I think hes anything more than a WR3.

STL- I dont want any part of SJax as anything more than a RB2. The guy just cant score TDs in this offense.

ARI- Ugh what a disaster at QB. Fitz is a WR2.

SEA- Lynch has an easy schedule coming up. I see him being a solid matchup RB2.

We learned once again taking a QB in the 1st round is not a good idea.

Rivers in the 6th is looking pretty good right now.

What have we learned? I will throw out a quick 10...

Carson Palmer is not what he was made out to be and just isn't that good

I said Nicks was going to be the best WR the Giants ever had last year and I believe it; he has greatness on him

The Cowboy OL is not very good and their coach is doing very little with a lot of talent.

Well, we already knew this but when you are a QB and your OC is Mike Martz, you better take out a great life insurance policy

Mercedes Lewis made huge strides this offseason, but his QB is mediocre at best

Kyle Orton was much better than any of us thought - I liked the trade for the Bears and thought Denver was dumb

SF is not as good as we thought

The Giants D line can still get after the QB, Osi is not done

Steven Jackson, Deangelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart are all top 5 in talent IMO and all are on horrible teams (GB step up and make a trade and be one of these guys salvation)

And finally, how is it possible the league has not changed the rule allowing teams to use the instant replay challenge under 2 minutes? This makes ZERO sense. Fisher, who is on the rules committee, had to call a TO just so the booth would review a play...moronic to not allow it even if you want the booth to be able to challenge it. BTW, I hate the run up to the line to not give them a chance to review...makes the game so artificial.

Great post.

We've learned there are more people whining about penalties (called and uncalled) than in previous years.
