What high draft pick are you benching in week 1? (1 Viewer)

FBG has Greene the #7 RB this week v. BAL
Jets OLine >>> Any opponent they play including their own defense if they could.
The loss of Faneca, both on and off the field, may impact the Jets o-line. Granted, they still have a great line but when you remove an important link in the chain there may be consequences. As to the topic, I'm starting my early picks regardless of match-ups.

Faneca is washed up. He has played terrible thus far for Arizona in the preseason. He can still run block OK, but his pass blocking is atrocious. Losing Faneca will not impact the Jets line.

No one is tempted to start Barber? Not a mention of him in this whole thread. Washington is changing defenses and Barber is the starter. I've been pondering starting him over Ray Rice just because I think a TD is likely out of him. Not sure what to expect out of Rice @ NYJ. I'll probably cave and go back to Rice but every year I end up wishing I'd played the matchups rather than going with my studs in the first few weeks.
I'm pretty much forced to start Wells and Barber. I'm not really worried about Marion. I think he'll be a solid RB2 all year.

Really? Im so worried about barber im starting Jstew over him and i havent seen stewart run since last year...

I listed 3 RBs across the title but it could be any position. Let's define top pick as anyone in the 1st 5-7 rounds that you planned on being a frontline starter when you drafted them.

QB: Matt Ryan seems like a guy to keep on the bench this week.

RB: Greene, Wells, and JStew...don't know how you can start those guys with a lot of confidence.

WR: Anquan Boldin-that thud you hear in the distance is his value dropping and then add in the Jets week 1.
Madness. The Steelers still only have one NFL grade CB on the roster, Polamalu can't seem to change direction any more ( :( ), and the run defense is still evil.

Ryan's a must start in my book.
 especially when you consider Atl is giving 2.5 pts to Pitt in vegas odds..somethings fishy here..

take Atl giving the pts and expect Matt Ryan to have a huge day..

Starting Best for sure, waffling over Reggie or Shonn as my second. Also have Barber and McGahee FWIW. Probably going with Shonn as he was the higher pick and I frequently screw myself over when trying to be cute and play the matchups.

I'm benching Turner and Mendenhall for Foster and Best. Not because I necessarily think Best and Foster will out produce, I just want to start the year off with a statement and insult my opponent by benching my first two picks. And I think my backup depth is strong enough to afford me the opportunity.
This is good policy.Crush the enemy, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentation of the women. :lmao:

DeAngello Williams for Tim Hightower
Don't do this.
I almost just made this exact post but decided to see what happened later in the thread.I will probably sit Pierre Thomas and start either Bradshaw or Beanie depending on how the injury report goes. I guess that's not earth shattering though.

Please lock this thread so we can all look back and chuckle over some of these benchings.
Man I hope you're kidding. You've been here five years so you should know how this thread goes. It shows up every year and a new one is started every week, but week one is waaaaay more pronounced.Thread title: What high draft pick are you benching in week 1?Post: I'm benching Studly R. Stud for Coin Flip Jr. cause his matchup is no good. It's a tough decision but I'm gonna do it cause these games count as much as the late season games and I can steal a victory here. Go bold or go home!!!Tuesday morning post-mortem # 1;Coin Flip Jr outscores Studly.Post: I told you so!! Dude, I can read the tea leaves! This is why I dominate my league! Chest thumping!!!Tuesday morning post-mortem # 2;Studly easily outscores Coin Flip Jr.Post: Man, I had a change of heart. Staring at my computer screen with only 2 minutes to go (cue dramatic music) and I couldn't pull the trigger. I drafted that guy early and felt like I should stick to my guns!! Always start your studs!! That's my motto!!Chest thumping!!!I'm telling ya, it's gonna look like " Gorillas in the Mist" come Tuesday morning with all the chest thumping. It's entertaining in the same way you take your kids to the zoo and watch some fecal flinging. But beyond that there may be 3 guys who admit they made a mistake. They're actually the ones you can take seriously going forward because they are honest with themselves. So I come in here every year to see who the new talent is.

Yea, I am starting JStew with confidence. Shonn Greene is my only possible sit this week and it's really f'n up my lineup.

And this is exactly different than any other day in the shark pool how?

I will be benching the titans d.
They were a high draft pick? In most leagues they are not even drafted. Either way though, if you have them, why would you sit them against the Raiders? This is one of their best matchups of the season.

I am benching the Jets defense for the Cardinals. I like the match up against a rookie QB and his rag-tag group of WRs.

I can start 3 of these 4 guys in my ppr league and right now DeWill is the odd man out. Rolling with Rice, Charles, and A. Foster (at least until I change my mind again in an hour)...

Starting Mendenhall and Foster over JStewart and Hightower in non-ppr league.
What is significant about this? Mendenhall and Foster should always start over Stewart and Hightower.
Hightower could be a top12 back this week. @St Louis he racked up 109/TD on the ground in 2008 and then for an encore last year in the same building he went for 110 on only 14 carries plus a couple receptions. This is a great match up for THT if he is definitely the starter and not splitting carries.

I agree, only posting because this thread seems to be the start Hightower and sit Stewart thread.I think people are way over reacting on Mendenhall, as if he was ever going to get 100% of the Steelers rushing attempts. I drafted Stewart higher than Foster, but I won't start Stewart until I see him run.

Benching Matt Ryan for Alex Smith. Benching Beanie Wells for Hightower for my #2RB. Tempted to bench Jennings for Jonny Knox against DET but not pulling the trigger, leaving Jennings in.

Reason, please let me know. I am doing this in two leagues. I can't see ST. L stopping the run, and Hightower might be the only back they have.DeAngelo I really like but i need TDs can he score on NYG def who will be stacking the box?
Did the NYG "stack the box" last year against CAR when Stewart went off for 206 yds? Granted, Williams was out hurt but that's still enough yardage for two 100 yd rushers. I guess if you are in a TD only league then go for Hightower.
 Cutler had 6 TDs against Det last year. Bears scored 40+ points on Det last year at Soldier Field.
Not sure what game you're talking about since Cutler only went for 141 yds and 2 td (plus 1 rushing td) in that game. Detroit's D-line is much improved and will eat Cutler for lunch if Martz sticks with his 6-7 step drops. If he dinks and dunks he will have a good day, but I'm not so sure it makes sense to bench Romo.
I'd be very worried if I was a P Thomas owner this week. I'd rank reggie over him this week.
Why is that? Last time NO played MIN, Pierre put up 61/1 and 38/1. Meanwhile Reggie had 8/0 and 33/1. That's 8 whole rushing yards and I don't recall that he was injured.

Starting Best for sure, waffling over Reggie or Shonn as my second. Also have Barber and McGahee FWIW. Probably going with Shonn as he was the higher pick and I frequently screw myself over when trying to be cute and play the matchups.
I'm in the same boat. One flex position left in my 1 pt ppr leagues. Shonne (not much ppr), Reggie (tough running matchup) or Gaffney (will definitely get lots of action against the Jags). My other league I can pick from Reggie, Gaffney, or SMoss. Any thoughts? No matter who I leave on the bench, I hope they get lots of points to draw trade interest during the year, even if I'm pounding my head against the wall next week about who I started.

benching mendenhall for Reggie Bush....Pitt will have trouble moving the ball this week and have a feeling Reggie will go off tonight..

Considering:

Portis over Steve Smith (CAR)

Tampa Mike over JStew

...I have a feeling come tomorrow both Panthers will be in my line up. If in considering benching Stewart because he hasnt ran all preseason, then I dont see how I start someone whose never played a meaningful NFL game over him.

I am looking very closely at the Beanie Wells injury reports. Right now I am benching Wells for Gaffney as a flex (Tampa Mike also available). In my other league I am starting Hightower over McCoy.

I make it a point to draft players in early rounds who I know I can start.
