If they can't make up their mind, why not save 6 million and take the #2 or #3 pick. Bush, Ferguson, or Morris. Everyone a good pick but a big salary difference.

Sure would be exiting to see how fast the top 5 times run to the podium!! How fast could Al Davis run to get a trade done?

charlie casserly would bve fired before the 2nd round rolled around

i would think it COULD happen... but have to think reggie's agent has it easy to get him the best dollars..

is it possible to be picked second and get higher money? or is the salary at each pick 'fixed"?

It's not going to happen deliberately. You're stupid if you think that. No team will purposely do this in the early rounds (the only case that I have heard of teams purposely waiting out their time-limit is to have the opportunity to draft Mr. Irrelevant). Right now, the contract negotiations are just pandering and posturing. Push comes to shove, the Texans will take the best player available. Apparently that person is Reggie Bush.

Somebody brings up this idea every year. The problem is that the player and his agent are going to demand #1 money so they are virtually guaranteeing themselves a protracted hold-out and are probably going to end up paying close to the same amount as they would have anyway. Remember what happened the year that the Vikings missed their deadline and picked Kevin Williams. IIRC, his hold out lasted well into the season and they didn't even do it intentionally.

there have been some rumblings that reggie bush's agent (joel segal) has botched up some things and is under a bit of pressure to get reggie bush signed and secured at #1 overall. the texans might be able to get a deal done prior to the draft because of this...if there is any fire behind the smoke of reggie bush not going #1 he'll the agent will get canned and get 0% of reggie's huge rookie contract instead of 3%

or this is what the texans want the agent to believe - one or the other

This same thread popped up this past weekend and my answer remains the same.

McNair would have Casserly field dressed; mounted and be on his second beer by the time the Saints reached the podium if the Texans ran out of clock.

Speaking of McNair, I have heard radio rumblings that he expects and or has made a hard suggestion (demand) to his people that the #1 pick be completely signed prior to Saturday.
