What info should I include for my draft spreadsheet? (1 Viewer)

Our league does not allow the use of Draft Dominator, so I've been using pen and paper for most of the ten years I've been playing in my leagues. However, I'll have the use of a brand new Mac this year and was considering creating a "real time" spreadsheet for my auction leagues this year (it's not really necessary for a serpentine draft, unless I could figure out a way to recreate the "best value" feature from DD).

I'm just in the pre-planning stages, but this is the information that I'm so far planning on including:

[*]Player, Team, bye week

[*]Projected fantasy points, projected points per game (useful for guys like Vick or those with suspensions)

[*]ADP (just to get a relative idea of where other leagues rate them to have an idea who might be cheaper/more expensive).

[*]Dollar "value" (based on VBD calculations), plus "expected cost" based on historical data.

[*]Dynamic auction value (+/- calculated value based on money spent already)

[*]Player notes

[*](?) Considering keeping a list of all teams' rosters (or at least # selected), but this may be more info than I really need.

Anything that I'm forgetting? I want to keep it as simple as possible (I'm not a native Mac user), so I'll probably stick to salary cost and possibly team selected (other than "mine/not mine"). Or should I even bother?

For player notes I'd do very quick, simple one hitters e.g. "Team added 4 WRs in FA/Draft" or "Team thinks he can compete for starting job" or "Competing for 3rd Down/Backup RB role" or even "New OC focused on running game"/"New OC has history of pass heavy focus"

Nothing flashy but little things that can help you make a quick decision when comparing 2-3 players at a position in the middle and later rounds

No DD allowed? What kind of league is this?
It's a friendly league (we all went to undergrad together) and several of our owners were barely scraping by. It was felt that having access to a laptop and custom software could provide a competitive advantage to those who couldn't afford one. (Similarly, we also ban internet access during each draft to prohibit an information advantage for those with wifi vs. those without). Had I not won the league the first year that I used it, it probably wouldn't have been an issue. But I did, so it was (despite having repeated the following year with only pen and paper). It's less of an issue now as we're older and largely better employed, but the rule still stands and no one seems inclined to change it. So we do without.Re: DawnBTVS, that's essentially what I do, plus noting backups, playing in a contract year (for my keeper league, this can be valuable). It's essentially for the players outside the starting roster since I don't always have time for due-dilligence for players outside the starters + primary backup range.

I bring my computer to the draft and on a spread sheet I keep up with everyone's team as well is the money spent. This is good for draft day but I also use this to evaluate in the offseason. I look at the top 6 teams every year and see why they were successful. But to get back on track with your question I also used the draft information from the previous year to make my auction draft day sheets. I go into FG's cheat sheet area get a updated cheat sheet, save it as a pdf and replace their auction values for the auction values from my previous year’s draft. For instance if the top qb went for 65 I change the value and so on. This gives me an idea what the players will be going for and allows me to come up with a strategy based on where i believe players will be auctioned for.

I'll be the first to admit it isn't perfect because last year receivers went for more than the previous three years but still it gives me a good idea what players will be going for.

This may or may not help because I'm still using a print sheet for my draft list and it sounds like you want to do something on your computer.

I know...commies, right?Anyways...I like having a depth chart, overall ranking of players for your format (or dollar amounts for Auction) by POSITION (sort of like NFL draft boards do it). I think having points and point dropoffs doesn't help me much, I use that to create my rankings (or update someone else's rankings), then Tier by position. Often, I'll highlight sleepers I am likely to get, and work backwards to know what positions I need to target early.

There is something very cathartic about bringing a pen and highlighter and printed off sheet to a draft. I am not a techo-phobe, but I just love leaving all that crap behind and depending on my brain and a Bic pen. Nothing better or worse than crossing off a name from a list. I've been playing since '96, so maybe that is why I like it so much, but to me, a beer, pen/highlighter and crinkly paper just makes draft day "right".With all that crap said, I would print off a list of O-line rankings so if you are choosing a RB3-5 and you have big buckets of similarly ranked players, you know they will get something out of their touches.
