What is everyone's take on the Carolina Panthers this year? (1 Viewer)

I know this may seem FARFETCHED, but if the Panthers are healthy this year on both sides of the ball, I for one would not be surprised to see them go DEEP into the playoffs. Last year, they were hit with injuries and were the dreaded Sports Illustrated pick to win the SB. They were just devastated last year with injuries and bad play calling by Henning. This year, they SEEM to be healthy and they have most of their starters back, and a new OC. With Delhomme, Smith, Foster, DeAngelo, and what I think is a favorable schedule, and a nice defense, is anyone else drinking the Kool-Aide?

Before anyone asks, YES I'm a Homer!

It comes down to the running game and the QB position. The defense will be fine.

Delhomme needs to limit the INTs. Williams needs to take control of the HB job. The line needs to adjust to the blocking system.

All the concerns are on that side of the ball. Davidson and Fox will be under pressure to get much better production out of the offense. If they can do that, they have as good a chance as anyone.

The Panthers seem to do better when the expectations are lower. That's a good sign for this year.

But the defense is a concern.

They were completely mediocre last year, and little has changed. Exchanged Keyshawn for a rookie, defense is getting old, not seeing what there is to like here.

I think the Saints are still the ones to beat in that division, and the Eagles are the team to beat in the NFC as a whole.

-Josh

I think they will improve on last year's finish, but they aren't as good as they were when they reached the SuperBowl. The Saints are the best team in their division and possibly the NFC. I predict playoffs, but no championship.

Let's see here...

Mediocre QB('s)? check

Average (at best) RB's? check

Crappy o-line? check

Injury prone defensive players? check

Yeah, that sounds like a Super Bowl contender to me

I think we will go all the way...........

The only problem is that this is same team that had some problems last season.

If we stay healthy at least a playoff game in Charlotte

How is everyone saying the Panthers defense is "Mediocre"? They had the #7 overall defense in the league last year, and that was with injuries! BTW, the Panthers have OWNED Philly in the past, so I'm not worried about those guys. And the Panthers swept the season series from the Saints last year! I'm not buying this argument.

Again, this IS NOT the same team from last year. They are healthy and have a new OC.

IMO defense is a big concern.Minter is a liability. Class act, but he is the best they have and he's lost a step. I was surprised they did not do anything to address this in the off season.

Beason is not signed. Every day he gets further behind. Morgan is not reliable, personally, I think he should hang it up before he does permanent damage to what's left of his brain.

Thomas Davis has not shown he was worthy of his draft slot.

Diggs and Kemo are OK. Lucas is fine and hopefully Gamble will be more consistent.

Rucker hasn't played 16 games in five years. Peppers and the Panthers need him and Jenkins to play well to be successful. They rely on the front four to provide pressure, and if they can't they are in trouble.

Overall, more questions than answers right now.

On offense, they need somebody to contribute other than SSmith. The bright spot is that the OL is healthy and King may make some plays at TE, something which hasn't happened in a long time at that spot in CAR.

Anywhere from 7-10 wins, depending on how they do in the close ones and they stay somewhat healthy. As for the Super Bowl, I don't see it happening.

:goodposting: Best argument I've seen. The "other" person that needs to step up and help SS this year will be Foster and DeAngelo. I really like the run blocking scheme that is going to be implemented this year in the offense. DeAngelo was a beast in college where Memphis ran a zone-blocking scheme. I also think the run blocking will wake up the sleeping Giant known as DeShaun Foster. Defensively, I think the Panthers will be in for yet another top 10 finish!

and guess what, everyone else in the NFC is mediocre too. In the AFC they would be an 8 win team. In the NFC they could win 11 games.

Pretty sure the Panthers make this the year the Dolphin's class of '72 doesn't get to open the champagne.

Their defense is no longer awesome, and their offense is completely one-dimensional.
Look for Jeff King to break out at TE. I wouldn't be surprised if their offense surprised a number of people. It's a totally new offense - multiple schemes, zone blocking will be added to it in addition to other nuances.

I'll give you credit for the first game. It was a hard-fought match and y'all came out on top. But you're bragging that the Panthers swept the Saints? Give me a break. Game 2 we leave our starters in for one drive, just to prove that we can score on y'all. After that, our backups play the rest of the way. Yeah, y'all sure deserve a big pat on the back for that win.

You deserve to be beaten for actually using "y'all". It's bad enough to hear people say it... much worse people writing it like it's a proper English.

All anyone needs to know is that the Saints have only beaten the Panthers TWICE in the past three years! 'Nuff said!

The Panthers stink and they have no shot at the Super Bowl. Them being picked for the Super Bowl last year was a joke.

That said, if they're to have a chance it all depends on whether or not the new run-blocking scheme works. They haven't been able to run the ball well for the past 2 years.

I would rank the NFC somewhat like this:

1) Eagles

1a) Bears

3) Saints

4 and down - no real standouts, and I don't think any other teams will be able compete for the NFC Championship beyond the 3 above.

How on Earth do you rank the Eagles ahead of the Bears? What have the Eagles done lately (or, ever for that matter) 1) Bears2) Saints 3) Panthers4) Seahawks

Insert 'Panthers' with 'Eagles' and I agree with your sentence...I mean, how on Earth do you rank the Panthers ahead of the Seahawks?

Here comes Chris Harris to save the day!

how do I put the Panthers ahead of the Seahawks? For starters, the Panthers haven't lost their best O-Lineman, don't have their RB and main cog in their offense turning 30 this month, who is coming off a broken foot, and they didn't lose their #1 WR last year.

I don't understand you yankees. "Y'all" should be adopted into the formal English dialect. It is a vital word. There is no substitute that works as well as "y'all." Proper English would be to use the plural of "you", which is "you." But that is usually ambiguous and the plural nature is not clear. And then there's the dreaded "you guys." Not only is it sexist, but it just sounds so cheesy some times. Let's try all three out in a sample sentence:

(Talking to a group of friends)

"Are you pumped for the game?"

"Are you guys pumped for the game?"

"Are y'all pumped for the game?"

Clearly sentence #3 works the best.

Wow! :bag: :fishy: OK, so here are my top four teams1. Saints2. Seahawks3. Panthers4. EaglesAll of these teams are closely grouped, as I don't see one that stands out!I think people will be surprised with the Bears this year. Rex will struggle (as usual..) and Cedric Benson is NOT the answer at RB. I don't think Alexander is going to be as bad as people are making it out to be. He looked good last year in the playoffs running hard and breaking tackles. He's on his way to a fine year this year IMO. Not quite sold on NO yet either. Should be an interesting year in the NFC.

Not until they get a legit QB. Delhomme is a bum now.

How about something like this.... Three tiers in no particular order (within the tier)

Chicago

Philadelphia

New Orleans

Dallas

Seattle

St.Louis

San Fransisco

Arizona

Green Bay

Detroit

Carolina

Washington

New York Giants

Tampa Bay

Atlanta

Minnasota

I can promise you, the Carolina Panthers WILL NOT be a third team tier this year. Arizona, Detroit, Green Bay San Fran are all better than Carolina?? Are you friggin kidding me?

They were last in the league at converting 3rd downs in 2006 (31%). Too many 3rd and longs lead to too many 3 and outs and no rest for the defense. I think it is safe to predict they can't do any worse with the new OC, zone blocking scheme and a healthy team.
