What is expected from Ringer if CJ misses the seson? (1 Viewer)

More like a bye week filler. Harper and Ringer would split carries. What are the chances that CJ misses the entire season?

Still trying to figure out, or recall, how and why TEN actually decided to let LG Blount go. He looked great as a Titan, and now look at the choice the team faces.

But if this was midseason and a backup RB took over for a lead back, any lead back, even for a week or two, there would be a rush to pick him up.

But at draft for week 1 not much interest in Ringer by the looks of it.

I wonder what TEN fans think of Ringer.

In limited time these are his stats:

Rushing Receiving

Year Age Tm Pos No. G GS Att Yds TD Lng Y/A Y/G A/G Rec Yds Y/R TD Lng R/G Y/G YScm RRTD Fmb AV

2009 22 TEN 21 7 0 8 48 0 32 6.0 6.9 1.1 48 0 0 0

2010 23 TEN 21 16 0 51 239 2 54 4.7 14.9 3.2 7 44 6.3 0 9 0.4 2.8 283 2 0 2

Career 23 0 59 287 2 54 4.9 12.5 2.6 7 44 6.3

Looks pretty decent to me.

The only reason I remember hearing was that they needed room for extra linebackers. It was obviously a mistake, and he looked good in preseason games for the Titans too.

I think he has skills and could be a decent fill-in, but no one makes defenders miss like CJ. Johnson is the main thing that makes watching a Titans game exciting, so I hope they get him in soon.

How much of CJ is the O Line? CJ is obviously something special, but is the O Line special.

Ringer seemed to impress in camp, and word is he's more of an all around back, as opposed to a bruiser...3 years in the system? Read he had trouble with protecting the QB, not sure if he's fixed that...too small to be a RB1? Harper too green, doesn't know O well enough?

Ringer hanging around WW...considering swapping him for W. McGahee, though he could be a vulture again. Soooo tempting...feeling of tiny yards, good TDs for mcGahee...bigger upside for Ringer?

There is no doubt that the o-line is very good. I'd expect Ringer to do ok, but no one has the open field burst that CJ has. RB 2 if he starts .

Outside the Titans, Jamaal Charles and Tawain Jones do at RB. And Mike Wallace and Jacoby Ford do at WR. But you are absolutely correct if we restrict the post to the Titans. Nobody on the Titans has CJ3's open field burst.

Harper has looked like a Blount clone this preseason. He has really caught my eye. Might be worth stashing as a lottery ticket in case CJ2k sticks with his ridiculous demand to be paid like a QB. Problem is a soon as CJ returns, Harper probably becomes an afterthought. TD vulture with very limited upside at that point.

You'd be crazy to drop Ringer for Willis. There's no guarantee Ringer even gets more carries than Harper week 1.

Last summer the Titans kept an extra WR named Marc Mariani. He's small and the type that is "not supposed to" be good. He was a pro bowl return man as a rookie, looked good in preseason in limited WR reps and even got WR reps in the pro bowl. He is tough as nails and the first guy I have ever said reminds me of Welker. Blount wasn't great as a Titan as was mentioned above, far from it. Fisher showed some confidence in him and let him have a 3rd or 4th carry in a row from the one and he finally got it in. I'll tell ya, he was a boy with a chip on his shoulder before that. After that, he seemed to grow up. It took all he had and the opposing D sooo knew what was coming on those runs. Gado was signed to compete with Blount. Neither was especially good as the grunt. Effective yes, but it's a thankless no mistake job that guys like Heath Evans usually succeed at. FB Ahmard Hall is a former marine and plays like it. When the Titans cut Gado and Blount it was that Hall would get the tough yards if need be. He didn't, he got his usual 15 carries a year and they used two TEs a little more often instead. Blount had zero chance to be a featured RB on the Titans and they didn't let him ever think he could be. He was the tough grind it out pile mover. He didn't really show his skills til he went to Tampa.Fisher was extremely confident in Ringer. If Fisher was there now, Ringer would get 20 carries in CJs potential absence and there'd be no issue with Harper. Munchak has been vocal about holding guys accountable for every little detail and results. Supposedly, he will pull players for missed blocks, drops, poor coverage, missed tackles etc. Ringer and Harper are sure to make mistakes so I wouldn't feel comfy predicting either. You almost have to lean Ringer's way though. This is year 1 and it's about an attitude change toward results. The Titans won a few years ago in the regular season and were 13-3 or somesuch. How fast they fell is a real sore point there. They have players that know how to get it done and succeed. Munchak doesn't have to change the world, but he definitely has some weeding to do. FWIW if this was a normal offseason and CJ got hurt in week 1, I would figure he could get 1000-1100 yards due to a ton of carries and decent TD and rec production. He's a pretty solid little guy that seems to use his legs to bust through tackles that should be made. I'm not sure that he'll have a long NFL career, he can't afford to be a step slower, but for now he's tough to take down.
