What is Jerry Jones' big Surprise? (1 Viewer)

I can't think of any big named players left...can't recall his exact words about making a splash in free agency...

But who's left for Jerry to pull out of his toupe?

Hopefully his big suprise is to do nothing and grab 2 of the top 5 corners with those first round picks than grab a wr in rd2.

Dallas does not need a big surprise. All they need to do is draft some secondary help with their 2 first rounders. Get a speed wr and a good vet at rb (Dunn maybe). This is not a sprint it is a marathon. Long way to go. If anything it is a good sign that Jones did not feel the need to make big splash right out the gate cause the big splash usually means you end up all wet. Dallas is strong and will make their move believe that.

Did he say free agency or "off season" in general? Maybe his surprise is trading up to one of the first few draft pix overall. McFadden or, ? Chris Long?

I think the free agents priced themselves out of Jerry's market. The cap room wasnt there so the Cowboys werent able to sign any huge names.

No big deal in my opinion, save the money to sign MBIII, Hamlin, Ware, TO and Newman to long term deals and sign our rookies. I dont think we need anyone that is out there.

Javon Walker....meh

Bryant Johnson....meh

DJ Hackett.....meh

Tatum Bell? Warrick Dunn? Meh....

Who else is there?

I'm sticking with Fitzgerald or the Lions' Roy Williams.

As I have since January/early February. (Cowboys Offseason Thread)

The Eagles are trying to deal for Williams as well.

They won't trade up for McFadden. He won't fall far enough.

No way he gets past the Jets at no. 6.

There is already a handshake agreement in place with Parcells that the Cowboys will give up both their 1st rd picks this year and a 2009 1st rd pick for the #1 overall spot this year - with that they take DMac.

This was all worked out when JJ let Ireland out of his contract to join the Dolphins.

That's my story and I'm sticking with it.

i have no idea why they would do that. If thats the case then they shouldnt sign Barber to a long term deal. Why give up a sure thing in barber for a unknown?

If that were the case, the Dolphins would not have made a point to announce publically that they were shopping that pick soon after Parcells and Ireland landed in Miami. No deal.

I nominate this for dumbest post of the year. Good work. :stalker:

Nobody on that list I want except Dunn if the price is very right. Getting Warrick Dunn on your team as a role player is always a good move. He'll bring nothing more than hard work and a quality person to the practice and locker room. The only other thing I could say in terms of Wow is somehow getting Fitzgerland and a slightly smaller Wow is Roy Williams via trade on draft day. I think that would be pretty cool in getting one of those guys as a WR2 but overall, I agree with your point. Sign our guys and let's get ready to roll.

Would they be able to afford to pay both those 1st rounders?
Late first rounder's (with the exception of early second) offer perhaps the best ratio of known talent to affordable price in the draft. Late first rounders usually come in at about 1.7vmillion per year, with about 2-3 million upfront. The can definitely keep both firsts.

Even the local Texan media or daily talk show, call in hacks have stopped the trade up for McFadden talk. It just does not make sense and several of the historically tied in and reliable Poke beat writers have written as much and indicate that trade is just not happening. Locals are still talking about a potential move for D. Hall but that is going to impact pending matters with Henry and could cause cap implications at a later date. Pacman Jones' name has come up again but that depends on the NFL front office, first, and the Titans, second. Lastly, the newest thing I have heard is that the Pokes like M. Kelly. If Kelly were to drop to the right point in the first round, there is a feeling that the Pokes might make a move to come up to draft him.
