What is left to say about the New England Patriots? (1 Viewer)

I really enjoyed that punt return that was called back today. It had such a playground feel with the snow and... I loved it.
:lmao: Totally brought back memories of playing touch football in the snow back home in New England.

Completely impressed by what the Patriots have been doing lately. That said, nobody has ever won a championship in December.

Agreed 100%. It's hardly a lock for the SB let alone a ring... but if they can do this for 6 more games then they're going to be next to impossible to beat.... especially in Foxboro where Brady hasn't lost in the Regular season since 2006 (NFL Record 26 Straight RS Home Wins).

I am not trying to take anything away from that regular season streak, but it seems bizarre for people to keep bringing that up considering the beatdown the Ravens delivered to the Patriots at New England in the playoffs last year. I say that because it seems like some bring it up as if to say, "Good luck beating the Patriots in NE in the playoffs, because they are unbeatable at home with Brady, as shown by their consecutive home wins in the regular season." Meanwhile, that home playoff loss is like the pink elephant in the room that these people are somehow ignoring or overlooking.

I'm not ignoring it. It certainly happened. That said, since the 2006 season that stands as the Patriots only home loss. Brady and the Pats are extremely difficult to beat at home.. period. That fact stands on it's own merit. Props to the Ravens for pulling it off... however, like the Browns loss earlier this season, I feel it's the exception not the rule. Not saying the Pats are unbeatable at home... just that it requires a good bit of luck and a great gameplan, and the players to execute it perfectly.

I really, really, really hope someone reminds the Patriots about that beat down last year. It could prove to be devastating if it slips their mind.

Randy Moss has to be kicking himself.
Hard to believe, but they're a better team without Moss.
How does Deon Branch become such a factor again? It's very impressive.
Round peg in a round hole. And the confidence boost he's given Brady - that has resulted in Brady raising the level of his game - has been huge.

You have to give the organization alot of credit. They sold out, and hurt themselves in the short-term for a few years, as they racked up draft picks.

Well now it's coming together.

The defense is incredibly young, and they are getting better each week. Add a few more picks from the 2011 draft and a little more seasoning, and this will be a GREAT defense.

On offense, their Oline is blocking great, and the additions of Gronkowski and Hernandez have been huge.

But the real big difference is the addition of Branch. Branch knows how to get open in the Patriots system better than any receiver other than Welker.

With the two playing at the same time, Brady is basically making no mistakes. It's unbelievable.

It's like on every single play, either Branch, Welker or a tight end is open, and Brady is getting them the ball.

Actually, Brady did make two mistakes yesterday, both were balls that Urlacher got his paws on. On one, it was tipped and Chris Harris should have intercepted it. On the other, Urlacher almost picked it off.

But regardless, Branch and Welker might not be a "big name" combo, but in this system, I doubt there are two better WR's in the NFL.

Somewhere Switz is smiling.

Agreed completely.

The Pats are 80-3 since 2001 when winning the turnover battle.
I believe that is the key to beating this years version of the Pats.DA was on the radio tonight asking is audience the question "who can beat the Pats?"Nobody asked me (but I never let that stop me!), but my answer would be any team that #1, doesn't turn the ball over when they play them. The Patriots have not turned the ball over in 5 games (iirc) and their D is feeding off of TOs. NE has been very good and sometimes very fortunate to have not turned the ball over; at some point that ends. When that happens, NEs opportunistic "D" can be exploited. Plenty of teams are capable of doing this, but obviously it is easier said than done. NEs offense is playing so well, they are taking a lot of the pressure off of their D and putting it squarely on the opposition.

Anybody old enough to remember the last time the Patriots won the Super Bowl? The year after Oakland's last one, right? :kicksrock:

it's because I actually expect my team to win playoff games.

lucky for you guys, you're spared that disappointment.

guess you'll have to settle for internet 'winners'

Belichick was just asked if he signed off on the fake punt and he didn't answer.

I think his job might be in jeopardy. :goodposting:

Statistically the worst defense in football. No names all over the field. Undrafted, smallish running backs. Unheralded receivers. First they go into Pittsburgh and kicked my team's ###. Then they dismantled a 9 and 2 Jets team. Now they go into Chicago, arguably the best team in the NFC, and take them apart in the snow. The Pats have a great history in the last 10 years, but I don't ever remember them playing this well. Tom Brady has been sensational in the past, especially in 2007, but I don't ever remember him looking this good. I've never hid my dislike for this team or its coach, but if they continue to play like this all the way to a championship, we are witnessing one of the greatest runs ever.
...and 2 years later, this post carries even more weight.

I think belichick might have some idea how to run a football team.

they actually lost 2 games in a row this year and it was so noteworthy I remember people declaring the dynasty over.

that's not a bad run when losing 2 games creates such reaction.

last I heard, they had the worst defense in the league and so couldn't possibly go deep in the playoffs.

it's a great year and all that -- don't want to sell it short, but it's business as usual for the pats.

think we've got 2 firsts and 2 more seconds this year (before trades) to continue reloading.

Gimme the Steelers of the 70's, the 49'ers of the 80's, and the Cowboys of the 90's before I would think about taking the Pats.

Those 3 teams were well rounded offensively and had stout defenses. The games nowadays are like playing Madden with a cheat code due to all the silly rules for QB's and hard hits.

well, that's kind of a pointless observation since all teams in the league play under the same rules every year -- it's not like the steelers of the 70s had to play under some different set of particularly arduous rules.

not to discredit them, obviously a great team, but where they DID benefit was the continuity they were able to maintain.

belichick has a salary cap to deal with, and this superbowl team has almost an entirely different roster from the superbowl team he wheeled out there just a few years ago, not to mention the increased competition he faces from the growth of the league.

Belichick has demonstrated an uncanny and arguably unmatched ability to adapt...to his player personnel, to the league rules, to his opponents after half time, etc. He is also innovative and gets the most out of his players even when it involves wrs playing db. I don't know what more you can ask for in a coach really. One of the all time greats for sure.

A great coach absolutely but the spygate thing still bothers me, especially the way the nfl destroyed all the records.

Like many, I've hated the Belichick-era Patriots since about 2003, but I find myself pulling a 180 lately. One of the things I've always hated was how Belichick was so dismissive of the press which I always thought was dismissive of the fans, but as Deadspin points out, his shtick has actually become somewhat endearing recently.

The players also seem more likable. Indisputable d-bags like Rodney Harrison and Teddy Bruschi are gone, and guys with an obvious sense of humor like Wes Welker and Gronk have replaced them. It also seems like the organization doesn't keep nearly as tight a lid on them, which makes them more likable. They're definitely more fun. Even Brady seems to have loosened up a bit in his old age and seems more accessible and interesting.

Anyone other non-New England fans find themselves no longer hating the Pats? Even- dare I say- liking them?

I don't get all the NE hate. I mean, if they cheated like UNC's football program, I would understand. I really would, but you have to respect Craft and the management for keeping this team at this high of a level for so long.

This thinking is just as dumb now as it was four years ago. What in the world could possibly be on those tapes that confuse so many conspiracy theorists? The same thing that was on every teams tapes when taping from the sideline was legal. What's funny is that everyone likes to say exactly what you did here, but nobody can even offer even a single devious suggestion as to what could be there. They all just say "I wonder what was on those tapes and why they were destroyed."C'mon, at least use your imagination a little and suggest what outlandish criminal activity "COULD be on those tapes". Go ahead, give it your best shot.

you realize you might as well be arguing with a homeless person on the streetcorner?I don't even know why people bother with this ######ed nonsense.should be a good game on tv in a couple days.

I think the Pats organization deserves a lot of credit but at the end of they day, they lucked out with Tom Brady. There would be no Superbowls or any of the other accolades without that guy. Belichick might not even still be the coach.

You could say the same thing about any team, but the bottom line is you don't know that. They went 11-5 when Brady was out for the season, and they have two great backups now.

I hate them because I'm a Dolphins fan.
