Surprised his career started in the 50's but only made 55 movies.

It would be hard to top his 1967 movies. To sir, with Love, In the Heat of the Night and Guess whose coming to dinner

Went with In the Heat of the night

They call me Mr. Tibbs!

:bag:   I don't think I've seen any of his movies except Sneakers.  That said I immediately thought of In the Heat of the Night.  Not sure how I knew.

Very interesting that you would bring this up. I wonder how many people have seen any of these movies...

If anyone is interested in seeing a Poitier movies, there may be one coming up in August for the FBG movie club.

"They call me MISTER Tibbs"  is a phrase I heard people saying well into the '80s, in one form or another.

For better or worse, Poitier always seemed above it all. He was acting in these movies because he could, then quit because he could. Probably cost himself a zillion dollars - because, Lord knows, he had presence - but he didn't give a ####.
