Thanks for posting this, I just bought one. I slept on a memory foam mattress for the first time at a Bed & Breakfast last month and absolutely loved it. I was going to head out to shop for one of these next week anyway, so the timing is perfect. At this price, I figured I'd roll the dice.
 
Chiming in to report that I've purchased a Bed-in-a-Box thanks to this thread. Should be delivered on Tuesday.

Giddy with excitement. Giddy!

Wife and I looking for a new mattress. I'm seeing tons of positive reviews in here about bed in a box. Which is the best one? Are these nearly as good as the Tempurpedic? We've never owned a memory foam mattress, but we laid on a Temperpedic in the store today and liked it. Thing cost over 3 grand was the only catch -- looks like a king size top of the line bed in a box is more like 1k.

Are you folks with bed in a box still happy with it?

We're definitely interested in trying a non-coil bed. I saw lots of good reviews here for the sleep number beds, but I read lots of bad reviews elsewhere about quality etc. over the long haul. Tempurpedic just seems to expensive. Bed in a box seems like a good deal.

The online reviews I've read have mentioned that they're a little difficult and/or tricky to use for lovemaking, due to the sinking-in and the loss of 'traction'. But, with a kid on the way, you're probably not gonna need one for that for a few years, at least. So go for it. :thumbup:
 
I have been happy with the 2 mattresses I bought even though they are not expensive.

What is key to getting a good night's rest? It the sleepers, not the beds. You don't need individually wrapped coils unless you weigh 500lbs and generate a tsunami every time you turn in bed. No bed can save your marriage if sonic booms from your snoring keep your wife up every night.

I puchased a king size bed in a box a month ago. By far the best purchase I have ever made. I would pay double for this thing.

Costco carries Novaform and that's close to Tempurpedic. I have a few friends that have them and they swear by them. We're going to be picking one up w/i a month as well.

I am a buyer for Sleep Innovations (who makes Costco's Pure Comfort Novaform brand and Sam's Tempsoma brand) and purchase the raw materials that go into the mattresses. After learning about memory foam, I would take our mattresses over Tempurpedics by a landslide. Tempurpedic hasn't changed the formula for their foam in quite a long time; a great portion of their revenue goes toward advertising which helps drive the $2-4K pricetag. Our R & D people are always working on new foam formulations such as CoolMax, gel, and other types of foam that "breathes."The downside is that we're a low cost provider and you really don't have much to go on other than the sample display in the stores that you can feel. These are bed in a box mattresses, and the Costco one is actually $100 off until Sunday in the store. This is a smooth top mattress, and the Sam's one is a really nice quilted cover. These are 12" mattresses, and we have an 11" mattress on Overstock.com under the Serta name that is very similar to Sam's, is a great deal at between $4-500 for a Queen, and is shipped for like $2.95. Awesome deals, just look at the reviews!

With foam though- you have to be patient for a day or two for the foam to recover to its shape as well as deal with the slight smell of the foam. Not a big deal.

Sorry to pimp my employer but I feel it's my duty to save my fellow FBG $1500 to $2000 with a mattress as good or better the Tempurpedic. :lol:

Wife and I are about a month in with the bed in a box and couldn't be happier so far. My sleep has been so much better. :thumbup:

Cappy -- you get the bamboo one? Would you do anything differently? Exactly what we're leaning towards right now, based on all the reviews here.

Yessir. Pacbamboo plus. The bamboo cover is 5 stars. Also ask them to throw in the 1500 thread count sheets. They did for me, they will for you. Disgusting how soft these sheets are, like being wrapped up in a cloud. I bought another set of them today. Buy that bed tomorrow Oat. You won't regret it for a second. I wouldn't change a thing about it.

So is the consensus that the Tempurpedic is not worth the extra money over the Bed in a Box?

 
Mine is firm, and soft...if that makes any sense. I don't sink in at all, and I have plenty of support. But it's still soft. Can't really explain it, other than it's f'n comfortable. I slept for 10 hours on it yesterday morning and I haven't slept that long since I was in high school.

Sex on it is great too. Nice support. This bed is approved by Premo's Legion of Whores. :hifive:

One of the big negatives I've ready about Tempurpedics and memory foam type beds in general are they sleep hot. Have you seen any similar issues with Bed in a Box? I'm one that likes to be cool when I sleep so any "sleeps hot" issues is a definite dealbreaker for me.

Nope. Buy the bamboo cover with the bed to prevent that. You don't actually sleep on the foam when you have the cover. It's also super soft.

Nope. Buy the bamboo cover with the bed to prevent that. You don't actually sleep on the foam when you have the cover. It's also super soft.

So, is there just one version of Bed in a Box or are we talking a specific model here?ETA here for all those thinking abou B in a B.....my notes from past discussion on this was to just buy the mattress only and don't worry about spending money on the foundation. Just cut some plywood to size to lay over your existing box spring.

Looks like there are essentially 3 main categories for BinaB....original, bamboo, or down. Then you can get any bed size and can choose between two different foam sizes within that category.I'm eyeing the California King 11" Pacbamboo:

ETA: Premier...any reason particular why you chose the 13" over the 11"...other than it just seems like it would be softer? I've read those are designed for 250 pounders.

BinaB is saying pricing are increasing on 4/6.

I'm sure there is some mkt to this...but with many predicting retail costs are going up 10% this year....I'm making a purchase prior to that if we decide to go that route.

Why not order it ASAP to take advantage of the still "cheap" pricing? The 120 day trial option looks solid to me so what's the worst that could happen?

Bamboo Bill - I made my purchase via the website and it was as easy as you would expect. Delivery should occur tomorrow.

When I bought mine there was a warning of a price increase. It's currently the same price...but maybe that's because it's "on sale" right now. :shrug:

Very real. Cotton is extremely expensive right now and as a buyer of these components, I'm taking increases all over due to cotton and the price of oil (plastics). The chemicals that make up the memory foam fluctuate and are going up this week as well.My increases of these raw materials is about 7%.

Not in the mattress biz like Dawg....but I do work for the largest apparel company in the world. We just raised our prices to retailers in all brands for the first time ever in the middle of a season, after raising them prior to the season. Cotton is at a 140-year high...synthetics jumped 74% in the '10 4th quarter. Some products are affected more than others....jeans at Walmart may go up 30%.10% increase wouldn't suprise me at all.

I tried to get the sheets....he talked to his manager (or at least acted like it)...and I even hung up and said I've call some other places....no go with that discounted price on that sku.Get mine by Friday!Interesting return policy....if they don't come pick it up, they'll ask me to donate to a non-profit...send them the receipt...and they'll reimburse me. I guess they're counting on that rarely happening.

The first time I ever checked out the site, back near New Years, they had the price increase claim. I wouldn't worry too much about it. That gimmicky marketing is making me a little apprehensive on ever buying from these guys though.

In our situation...we knew price increases were coming on 1/1....we told retailers it was coming, but was not taking affect until 3/1. That gave retailers time to place future orders under current pricing, and get things in order to raise retails if necessary.That could be happening here also. Maybe it is gimmicky mkt...but price increases is not normally something you just pull the trigger on as soon as the increase comes to you on manufacturing.
