What is THE WORST CALL you've ever made? (1 Viewer)

Raider Nation

Devil's Advocate
There was a RB who was taken with the 84th overall pick by the Packers in the 1994 NFL draft. His name was LeShon Johnson. I absolutely loved this kid when I saw him play for Northern Illinois. He ran with power and speed and vision. I thought he was the total package. In fact, I walked around for MONTHS after the draft telling everyone who would listen that LeShon Johnson would turn out to be a better NFL running back than the guy who was the first RB off the board (and the 2nd overall pick) that year...

Some guy named Marshall Faulk.

1994 NFL Draft

How'd that prediction work out?

LeShon Johnson's career totals: 63 games, 1,389 total yards, 7 total TDs

Marshall Faulk's career totals: 176 games, 19,154 total yards, 136 total TDs

What'ya figure? Is that a nine-bagger?

:bag: :bag: :bag: :bag: :bag: :bag: :bag: :bag: :bag:

Been wrong on Barlow 2 years in a row. He was my 2nd pick in a startup keeper league.

Last year I kept Andre Johnson. I released Steve Smith. Then I used my first pick on JJ Arrington.

I was a victim of Barlow as well.

I was all over him when he was splitting time with Hearst. Wish I knew where that explosiveness went...

I make a lot of bold predictions, so I'm sure I've missed a horrible one. I can't think of one off hand, but give me a minute and I'm sure I can find a :lmao: one.

Interesting . . . as I pondered the question, my synapses flashed "Cecil the Diesel". I targeted him in all my dynasty leagues as a sure-thing sleeper. In reviewing the posts above, I was surprised to find he apparently served more kool-aid than Jim Jones . . .

My worst call was two calls:

My first year in a dynasty league last season, I took Tatum Bell in the first round.

The next season I followed up Bell's disappointing season by trying to corner the Denver backfield. I drafted Maurice Clarett in the first round.

My latest worst call was actually admitting this publicly.

... :wall:

Traded Peyton Manning before his record breaking season...

...in a keeper league - for Priest Holmes and some scrub wideout.

Same league... years prior...

...forced a trade giving away Ricky Watters and his *then* handcuff (Shaun Alexander) for a 3rd round pick (worked out to be a 10th round pick due to keeps). Got Bupkiss with that pick...

It's sort of funny to look back, but once upon a time I used to write up a short piece on my own website for "rookie fantasy prospects".

I know I have one from 2001 somewhere but here is 2002. Apparently, I used to think Josh McCown was the next superstar.

LOL. Pretty spot-on writeups on the other guys though.

Nothing really comes to mind from last year, but I remember taking Andre Rison as my first reciever the year the Browns got him as a Free Agent.

Never ever draft a guy that thinks he's spiderman!

Who's to say he won't be? I think Martz can make him a stud.

Some years ago I had the first pick in my primary league, with a tossup between Terrell Davis and Barry Sanders. I ended up with a backfield of Eddie George and Barry Sanders. Halfway through the season the situation was getting desperate--George was scoring just average, while Detroit was it's usual frustration and Sanders had maybe one td to go with all of his dancing yards. (Of course--TD was breaking all sorts of scores) I was desperate, and offered a trade....and while they expected me to give them Eddie George I'd grown frustrated with the BS bs and traded him away--uhhhhhh....the week before he went off for 4 td's and 200 yds. :wall:

To add insult to injury--my wife was a HUGE Detroit fan and it was because of her that I went with Sanders over TD in the first place. So...we're watching the game together that Sunday, and she's just going crazy! "See--I told you he was money!! Now aren't you glad you listened to me?!!!"

Meanwhile I'm just looking sicker and sicker. She finally asked me what I'd done, and I told her.

That was the last year she showed any interest in my fantasy football. :(

I was pissed when the Packers traded a 1st round pick for a guy named Brett Favre.

I also predicted Ryan Leaf would be the better pro than Peyton Manning.

We have a college roster. Last year, I traded Reggie Bush for Nate Burleson. Reggie Bush had yet to become awesome and Randy Moss had just left the Vikings and I needed a WR. Seems pretty rational, but in reality was the worst trade in the history of fantasy sports. Not only did Burleson not get a single point for me last year, but also Reggie became the most amazing player to ever grace a football field. This led me to do the following (in order):

:wall: :banned:  :bag:

In one of our early league drafts, one of our teams selected Paul Edinger  in the 3rd round. He was friends with his sister and wanted to make sure no one else took him.

1. A few years ago, in a keepe league, I passed up the following trade:

Sean Alexander, backup RB for Seattle for Kordell Stewart. Definately the worst mistake I ever made.

2. Last year I gave up Dom Davis and Peyton Manning for T.O. and Antonio Gates. What's so bad about this you ask.......well, the other owner wanted to do Gates/Davis straight up, but I passed and this trade occurred the week before T.O. started his antics and then was suspended....I had him for 1 freakin' game, and it cost me Peyton manning to do so.

Few can come close to these

1. Dropped Larry Johnson

2. Dropped Antonio Gates

3. Dropped Tom Brady

4. Dropped Willie Parker

5. Traded Javon Walker for TJ Duckett

Picking Ronnie Brown over Cadillac this year. Oh, you said worst call, sorry.

I traded Lamont Jordan for TO and some scrubs last season, just before Lamont went off and TO got mouthy.

Also traded Antonio Gates for Javon Walker in the preseason last year.

Real NFL: Roundly criticised the Steelers for trading up to get Troy Polamalu. Felt they could have stood pat and taken Rashean McNeil.

Fantasy: Dropped Steve Smith in a dynsasty league his first season because of lack of roster space. (Damn smart of me to pick him in the first place, though).

Nobody ever ran up the backs of his lineman's legs like Leshon Johnson!

Real NFL, I was pretty pleased when the Packers drafted Jamal Reynolds. I also like the Joe Johnson signing at the time.

Not so bad considering about the next 10 guys off the board became decent.

Last year I took Culpepper #1 (start 2 QB league), Julius Jones #2 and Joe Horn #3.

First time in 11 years I didn't make the playoffs...

I really didn't think Priest was that good after his 1st year. I had the opportunity to trade for him in a keeper league but didn't. The rest is history.

Nothing in football bigger than what's been mentioned but in Fantasy baseball I used to participate in an auction league where you could keep a guy for up to 5 years if you added $1 to his cap number each year. At the draft I took a $1 flier on a little known pitcher named Marianno Rivera. After the first week or two of the season I realize I need another starting pitcher so I cut Rivera. Shortly thereafter Rivera becomes the Yankees closer and the rest is history. :bag:

When I really want to feel depressed, I just go back to my league's 2005 MFL site and look at all of the trade offers I turned down last summer from people looking to get Nate Burleson from me.

Draft last season my first 3 picks.

Jamal

Randy Moss

Joe Horn

Ended up trading Jamal for Cumar who I traded for Boldin while hurt.

Traded Moss for Fitz who I traded for LJ before he went off.

My best and worst move happened in the same trade. I was sitting at 1.01 and traded that spot for 1.03 and 2.01 in a keeper league. I was laughed out of the building when I announced my pick (I was drafting over the phone).

Commish: "Chris, I selected Lewis with the first pick and Mike grabbed Dayne with the second pick. I assume you want Thomas Jones?"

Me: No, thanks. I will take Shaun Alexander.

Commish: "What...are you sure?"

Me: Yes, but thanks for your concern.

Announcement is made and everyone laughed. I left that league, but two years later they gave my team to someone that made minimal moves and SA won them the league.

Oh, BTW, I used my extra draft pick to select Cade MCNoun...I passed on Culpepper :bag:

I thought McNoun was Aikman with a better arm...lol.
