I voted Arizona. No brainer to me.

Cleveland does not belong on this list IMO. Pre-NFL merger days they where pretty dominant and won several championships.

L.A. Clippers
Of teams that havent folded, its got to be the Clippers. The Cardnials actually have a long history - they were one of the NFL's founding teams and were very succesful back in the day (a long way back). Sure, since they moved to St Louis/Arizona/Phoenix, theyve been awful. But theyve been around for much longer than that.

Also, I think you have to exclude the Royals. They have made it to the World Series. If you are talking about worst franchises, you have to start with ones that have never made a championship game/series.

How in the He-- are th Royals on here....

Look back @ 1975-1996....only one season of 90 losses or more (1992 -which was EXACTLY 90)

Sure the last 10 seasons under a cheapskate owner have been bad sans 2003, but to have a team in this poll who went to the playoffs 7 times in a 10 year span, went to 2 World Series' and won 1 World Series is absurd.

Other:

The Phillies are going to be the first professional sports team in history to lose 10,000 games. 2nd place isn't even close.
But on the plus side, they have been around for over 100 hundred years, won 1 WS and been to 4. Some franchises have never sniffed a championship game so they got that going for them.

WTF Browns? you either must be fishing, or have a very short grasp of history. even the "new" browns made the playoffs once under davis.

I hate to say it but 1 good year does not take the New Orleans Saints off this list. They were horrible for way too long. And when your talking about the worst in history, they have to be included for now.

As a huge Cubs fan - it pains me to admit this - The Chicago Cubs.

1908 was their last World Series Victory - we are coming up on 100 years since a Championship and 62 years since their last WS apperance.

i know its a little early, but so far the texans enough said.
Maybe the worst opening 5 year period in the modern NFL, but way too early for them to be on this type of list. since we are talking all sports, the Texas Rangers should merit some consideration.Edit: Until the last couple of years, the Dallas Mavericks should have been on this list and if they blow another postseason, I might include them for teasing fans.

Has to be the Clippers. Simply TERRIBLE, and in a large market to boot.

Whoever made this poll needs to read a history book.

Arizona Cardinals.

Couldn't make it in Chicago or St. Louis. Have been the face of losing since the mid 70's. Only one playoff victory since the 1940's I believe. That's pretty bad.

Ted is right, its the Philadelphia Phillies and there aren't any other teams close to how much this franchise has sucked. I still love my Phightin Phills !!
This is (unfortunately) the correct answer. 1918-1948: one winning season and that was 78-76.The Cubs & Red Sox have been lovable losers - the Phillies have been just losers. Until 1980 they had the longest drought at 97 years without a championship.Royals have won as many titles, and have 2 less playoff appearances in 80 or so less years. The Browns are a really wrong answer - multiple titles

Had to go other: LA Clippers

Their strategy of getting rid of their good players is shrewd. I call it the Bernie Bickerstaff approach.

Voted other........

Has to be the Phillies......I didn't even need to read through the thread, but did anyway. This sports franchise is the absolute worst ever. Not even close. Period.

I'm from the area and would like to vote another franchise in another city, but, when I honestly look at how this franchise has screwed up, year in and year out......it's not even close.

Those that think otherwise should look a little closer at this horrendous franchise and it's history.

The title of this poll should be changed to "the worst franchise in sports today" to more accurately reflect the teams represented.

Lions had Barry, and the Browns had Jim Brown...take them off the list due to the stud RB exception.

In recent history, the Pittsburgh Pirates have been downright awful. Historically is a different story.

Houston Texans arent very good or Phoenix Coyotes.

As a Saints fan, I hate to say it, but you're absolutely right. We beat out the Browns and the Cardinals.Let's not forget which team popularized this: :goodposting:

As a team that has existed for 41 years and has not been to a championship, I think they have to be included in the discussion.

The Saints first season was 1967. Since that time, the Cardinals have had 8 winning seasons and a

1-4 playoff record. In that time frame, the Saints have 8 winning seasons and a 2-6 playoff record.

Since Tom Benson took over in 1986, the Saints have been an average NFL franchise, with a winning percentage a little over .500. Since that time, the Cardinals have had only one winning season(9-7 in 1998).

While the Cardinals and the Saints are in the same class of franchise(bad, inept, whatever term you prefer), the Saints have outperformed the Cardinals.
