I wanted to set up this poll out of curiosity.  I guess i was prompted to do so by the poll re assault rifles, which had a result that surprised me in the context of what i thought was a right-leaning board. (Apologies if this has been done before.)

I've always considered myself a Libertarian who leaned Republican.

Now I'm a Libertarian who is leaning Democratic, because the Republicans have turned bat #### crazy.

Surprised that you thought this board is right leaning.  It is very apparent to me that it is a left leaning board.  The 5000 page thread on Bernie Sanders gave it away.

Suzy Whitaker promised No More Homework and she still hasn't delivered on that.  What a ####.

I was planning to switch from Republican to Independent this election cycle.  In Ohio, however, you declare your party affiliation based upon which primary you vote in.  So, I remained registered as a Republican to cast a non-Trump vote (Kasich).  So, it looks like I am technically still Republican, but independent in spirit.

I am guessing that most of the people who marked Independent, are conservative leaning

:goodposting:

This board has become a huge left wing crank fest in almost every political thread in the last year or two.

That would certainly be the case with me. I just think that both sides are bought and paid for and really have no interest in doing anything that benefits the people they are supposed to serve.

A mere 1 in 6 of, from all indications a board that is comprised of primarily white, 30 - 55 year old males are registered Republicans?  That is shocking.

I see some have the delusional "No, really!  My candidate isn't as bad as your candidate!" going on as well.

I've always considered myself independent who leaned libertarian but for practical reasons voted republican.

Now I see they're all bat #### crazy.

Of course!  Complete with the usual false equivalence "both sides are equally awful" shtick.
They're not equally awful but both are awful.

People who lean left generally think that the FFA leans right. People who lean right generally think that the FFA leans left. (Link.)

I think what turns a lot of people off from the Republican Party is the social issues. A person can be conservative without wanting to overturn Roe vs Wade, being anti-Gay Marriage or being a religious nut job.

The Republican Party has done a terrible job at distancing itself from the crazies. One can assume that it even encourages the crazies (Tea Party, Fox News, Rush, etc.)

I personally have a lot of socialist views, but I'm not a full on socialist.

My father was stationed in Germany back in the 70s. He said that he lived next to a woman who was a single mother of 4. The government subsidized her entire lifestyle, even payed for her transportation. He said she lived a better lifestyle than him despite her not having a full time job and 4 kids. Contrary to what many people believe, that is not a reality in the U.S. nor should it be.

I am a Democrat because they will occasionally do the right thing after we progressives have bit-ched at them long enough and hard enough. They're almost as big an obstacle as the party that won't even recognize that change is inevitable and must be dealt with as best as possible.

FTR I think there are tons of lurkers on this board who lean conservative and just aren't willing to mix it up with the vocal and obnoxious lefties, of whom I'm one. I attribute this to not having very good arguments on their side.

Or a closed mind on yours.

Wish there was a Get #### Done party that was loyal to the middle class, and actually represented the majority of citizens first and foremost while being fair to the minority (minority = rich, poor).

That's what the Democrats try to do.  Elect a Democrat the next president, and the Supreme Court will be liberal for the next 30-40 years (!!), which will result in the reversal of unlimited dark money, much-needed pushback against corporate-friendly law in all areas of American life, and probably even an unraveling of gerrymandering.

The Republicans will try to do none of this.

For those of you who claim that the two parties are the same, there's your difference right there.

That's persuasive, but for one thing - outside of election/re-election efforts, I don't think the word try applies. Once elected, our politicians execute an invisible script.

Back to the music!
